1.Cover:
It's good to hear that cover and our "sneak attacks" will be fixed, but has anyone brought up making them useful in PvP? I think, bugs aside, our profession is doing fine in PvE, but it's in PvP that we really get hurt because we don't get to play the way we can in PvE. When fighting npc's we get to take cover, sneak, get sneak attacks, etc... but in PvP we are forced to basically duke it out with all the other, much more direct professions. How about if taking cover actually took us off the radar ( both the mini radar and the transparent overhead ). that way we could actually sneak up on people, and if our sneak attacks didn't draw the autoattack of our targets. I really think this would make the rifleman what he is suppose to be, basically a sniper.
2. Suprise shot:
again, good to hear the sneak attacks are going to get worked on. But I'd still like to see something like my idea's from above.
3. SG82:
Good to know, never used one myself ![]()
4. Pistol vs. Rifle ranged accuracy:
I understand how this works now, and I do think that with the current system there needs to be more variation, ie more hits at the ideal range, more misses at the ranges you're not suppose to be shooting at ( close range for rifle, long ranges for pistol ). However, my big complaint is pretty much the same as a lot of the others I've seen posted. Why do all weapons in this game have the same range? really... it's just seems silly to me that with as much time and effort that must have been spent coming up with this great system, and all the input given in beta about this same problem, I really hoped that there would've been a change, or atleast a solid plan for a change to this. Rifles and pistols just shouldn't have the same range, I don't think it should be a massive difference, and I really don't think that the solution is to nerf the other weapons and leave rifle at 64, god knows how many people that would anger. but a 6 or 12 m difference between each I think would really help, maybe even vary it between weapons, max range pistols ranging from 52-58m, carbine 58-70, rifle 70-76 something like that. I'd imagine the faster weapons having the shorter max range, so things like fwg5 and scout blaster would have the 52m range, while the slower ones have the 58, same for carbine ( not to familiar with specific carbines ), and rifles, the spraystick would obviously be the shorter range, maybe even still 64, the rifles around 4 speed at 70, and things like dl20a and t21 at 76m.
5. Random teleportation when prone:
good to know you'll work on this, if it helps any, for me if when I go prone I move, just a little bit, before I take cover / shoot, whatever, it doesn't seem to happen to me. However, if I just drop to prone and try shooting it happens to me all the time.
6. Low Damage Output:
personally I don't havea big problem with the damage output, however, I do think that a max range difference on weapons would stop some of the argueing about this. and I think if anything was implemented like the cover and sneak attack ideas I listed above, where they could be used vs. players then I can't see anyone complaining about the damage output.
I just wanted to add that you guys do a great job, and I see you take a lot of heat for some of the things you say and some of the things that happen in game. I hope it doesn't really get you down. Just remember that just like anything else in life, it's just human nature, the content usually give no feedback, while at the first sign of unhappiness people will be sure all know the reason for their discontent.
You must be a marine that didn't listen. Battle sight zero is setting the sites on the M-16 to center on both the rear sight (windage) and the front site (elevation) so that anyone should be able to pick up that weapon and engage a target with some accuracy and then only out to about 100m or so. Past that the way people hold the weapon is different and therefore if it is not sighted to that person they will be less accurate until they adjust for it or sight it in properly. Point target is not somebodies head it is a person and an area target is a squad of people or a vehicle. You do have it right in this game you have long (rifle), medium (carb), and pistol which hits over the whole spectrum. Somebody else said that at 64m both rifle and pistol would hit 30% (random percentage may not be accurate), well with the rifle firing once every 6.5 sec (good slice) and the pistol firing at 1.8 (preslice on some) then if you fired the rifle till it hit would take 3-4 shots. In that same time the pistol has fired between 9-16 shots and hit you 3-4 times. Yeah that is equal.
Never post to boards but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in regardingsuggesstions on increasing rifle range beyond 64m. Considering the manner in which mapterrain and objects generate visuallyas you get closer to them, don't you guys think that it would be just plain frustrating to try and line up 100m shots only to find out that your line of sight is blocked by something that is really there for all intensive purposes but is not viewableby your naked eye yet? This urks me enough at <64m let alone at 100m. With the games current map/radar system I just don't see this as a viable option for revitalizing or balancingthe profession.

Q-3PO - HAve you even played this game?
If you notice group fighting, then you'll notice that the mojority damage done to a creature is HEALTH. Yeah, mind wounds can't be healed, but who gives a flying -edit- about a creature not being able to "heal" it's mind.
You must really have some nice kneepads to get the job your at now.
Bronze them yet?
You guys got shafted on the answer to #6...
lol all those drawbacks and you arent even the heaviest mind hitters in the game...
BH and CH can get way more mind damage in at a faster rate with less penalties...
I feel for ur class guys...i think SOE is giving you the shaft...
SOE fubared with mind damage and a 2 tier HAM system and they are to stubborn to admit they are wrong and revamp it...and u guys are taking the biggest bite of the the old Sh*t sandwich...
Do i think snipers with clear field of vision and proper set up should kill in 1 hit? Heck ya...otherwise whats the point...
anyways sry to troll..but there is a huge mind damage debate going on in the medic boards and people alwasy point u guys out mistakenly as the biggest mind hitters....but hey have anyof u guys hit shot a full mid bar since the patch?!
Sorry I wasn't trying to provoke anger with my post, just trying to point some things out.
I got out of the Marines 7 years ago and used the M16A2 for five years straight. I was expert Marksman 5 years in a row with scores of 232 - 248 out of 250. I also was a range coach. BZO in the Marines is set for 300 meters. I would bet you all the money in my bank account on that because I taught it a thousand times in the USMC and National Guard. In fact, here it is off the Army website.
"The purpose of battle sight zeroing is to align the fire control system (sights) with the rifle barrel, considering the given ammunition ballistics. When this is accomplished correctly, the point of aim is the point of bullet impact at the standard battle sight zero range of 300 meters for an M16A2 rifle. The battle sight zero is the sight setting that provides the highest hit probability for most combat targets with minimum adjustment to the aiming point."

Not flaming back, but I still remember my weapons.
Also, BZO is particular to the Marine / soldier who 'sighted' the rifle. This is because Cpl. Big Shoulders-Short Arms will set his windage and site elevation differently than Lt. Skinny-Long Arms. There is no GP* rifle setting. (*General-Purpose)
Ok, I want the rifle stuff in the posts to get fixed. Also it looks like the T21 (sp)? was fixed according to devs. Hopefully your conceal shot will work against PCs after it's fixed. I have an interest in all the weapons in the game and only have pistol at mo because that's what I just started using for no particular reason. Once I master it I'll probably switch over to rifle or carbine. A lot of issues are valid but a lot of people complaining about one thing or another are just complaining without actually analyzing things. I've seen riflemen run right into deadly pistol range in PVP for no other reason but they think they're Rambo. Then again I've seen riflemen stay pretty far out and do well. So sometimes when I see just blank whining on any board I figure it's someone who just rambos and then complains when they get killed and says all other classes need nerfing.
It seems every class whines about the shortcomings of their class without actually looking at ways of using their class better.
BTW a rifle like the M16A2 is superior to any pistol in almost any given situation. However for game purpose things are exaggerated / distorted. The rifles in this game are more like bolt-action sniper rifles with fixed scopes. They are too unweildy for close combat and it's very difficult to use a scope on someone running within 50 meters of the riflemen. Hopefully they'll make fixes so you guys can act more like you're supposed to, ie concealment and cover shot, etc. Maybe the devs could extend rifle range also, since I have no idea why pistol and rifles have max range of 64 meters. Maybe the didn't want all players to switch to rifle because if there were unequal ranges rifle would have more standoff power. But if that was case they could just throw in 'smokebombs' that would shield advancing fighters from riflemen by giving the riflemen 'you can't see your target' message.
Oh and BTW a point target IS someone's head, and an area target is their torso. Point target range is 550 meters and area target range is 800. Maybe in the Army they consider a point target to be a person and an area target to be a squad, but in the Marine Corps a point target is an individual's noggin.

6) Low Damage Output Riflement feel that they have low damage output which makes them suffer in groups. Due to the length of time it takes to shoot, the targets are typically dead and the rifleman gets about 30% of the experience everyone else gets.
There are advantages to every class and the advantage of the rifleman is that mind damage generally can’t be healed in a battle.
So basicly this is saying that the Rifleman class is specificly for PVP? The fact that I can do mind damage has no bearing on creature-combat, or against NPCs. They don't have medics in their groups.
I went with rifleman, because I wanted to use a rifle. Not because I wanted to do PVP. No other class has special concessions because they are particularly good in the PVP arena, why should this single class have restrictions or extra considerations because it does? I'm not going to be a PVPer, but I want to use and be effective with a rifle. What a read from the above, is that because I chose to do a rifle in a PVE setting, that I bascily get hosed. I do less damage-over-time, because I might be shooting at a player, and therefore my mind damage is worth more, against that specific target type.
How many other Rifleman out there are non-PVP? Am I in the minority?
Last night I was out with myLaser Riflegrouped with a newbie with a pistol. I spent most of my time watching him kill melee npcs while I was incapped on my back. This is a sad time for Riflemen. The max distance penalty does not make sense to me either. Pistols are the way to go although rifles look cooler. I think i'll just carry one around like a nice piece of furniture.

You can't have the weapons have different ranges, it has to do with skirmishing tactics that would make the Riflemen the only profession to use.
Say they made the pistol range 30, Carbine 50, Rifle 64. Against a pistoleer, all I would have to do is fire a shot from my max range. If the target choses to close the distance, I just step back. If he tries to flee, I step forward. We both move at the same speed, so there's no way he can possibly beat me unless I were foolish enough to let him sneak into his range.
The way it works now, if you'll notice, I may still be able to hold him at my range, however as a rifleman, I'm not as effective as I can be while I'm running back and forth. The pistoleer isn't either, but he doesn't suffer as great a dropoff in accuracy as I do. In a perfect world, our accuracy's would equal at this point, making for a fair fight. However, we all know that this isn't the case, and the pistoleer's accuracy equals at least what he can do while standing still, if not more, even at max range.
This is the core of the riflemen vs. pistoleer/bounty hunter debate. The pistoleer is not suffering the accuracy dropoff that they should be because its being compensated by the extra bounty hunter tree points. Riflemen have no such "extra tree" on which to build on.
The announcement of the first elite-elite profession (urban planner is the next stage after master architect) may be a light at the end of the tunnel for us riflemen. Perhaps they'll take the "sniper" tag off of those who have completed the first rifle tree, and make the master rifleman no more than a soldier who's good with a rifle. THEN, they place an elite-elite profession above master rifleman, and call it "Sniper", a special forces type master shooter with -deadly- accuracy and superior stealth skills.
Then we'd have our third tree to make us par with the pistoleer/bounty hunters.
