Thread: Rifleman Issues Designer responses
Not too sure about some of the things u said like not getting XP in groups. I don't know about you but when i am in a group i probably get the most XP since i am hitting the mind as opposed to hitting the health bar like everyone else. I sometimes even kill the creature myself with mind bleed before 2 or 3 guys aiming at health can kill the creature. Mind is way way less on most creatures.
Really people, if you don't like Rifleman switch to something else already...some things are not fair for Rifleman but there is always something you will find unfair for every class.
Just take a browse on the other profession boards.....everyone complains about everything. A lot of things depend on your gameplay style. If you are someone who just likes to fire and to continue to fire until the creature is dead then go for pistol...it takes no skill or strategy.....if you are someone who likes strategy and if used right can kill most anything then go for rifle.
People make the rifle out to be way less underclassed than it really is...sure it has problems but it does have advantages...BEING ABLE TO DO A TON OF DAMAGE WITH ONE SHOT TO THE MIND AND HAVING THAT DAMAGE NOT BE HEALED IT GREAT. I admit rifle has problems but it is more a strategic weapon unlike the pistol which is shoot til dead.

The thing that troubles me most is the total lack of even an acknowledgement of the issues. I have been following this thread hoping for some kind of response: even that something MIGHT be wrong and that they will look into it. I know they are busy, but the devs at least took time to acknowledge that CH, BE and Commando professions were bugged, and that they would look / were looking into them. It's like we are shouting into a black hole here. Just a bit frustrating.
How about if they made PvE only have 1 pool to hit and everything affected that. Make the Mobs have only one bar based on the average of their current HAM bars.
Wear armor for PvP. A scout blaster has 0 armor penetration and by wearing any armor with energy special protection you will get a massive reduction in damage done to you. Don't wear a helmet to avoid the big hit to mind pool. Food and doctor buffs can make the penalities for wearing armor low to nil.

#4 is pretty confusing...
I get the impression we got hosed though.
Here is my understanding of #4. Most rifles have max accuracy at 45m, pistols have max accuracy at 25m. Let's say that each will hit 90% of the time at their respective ideal ranges. If you back out to 64m you will only hit maybe 30% of the time with either type of weapon, much lower in both cases, but equal. Probably not the way I would have done it, but it maintains a certain balance and a separation between the types of weapons.
Just to make sure it is understood, I made up the above percent chances to hit at various ranges. I do not know the actual levels, but my numbers serve to illustrate the statement made in #4.
They're talking about the ideal ranges.
These weapons can all throw projectiles to 64 meters. But that doesn't mean they're accurate.
This game isn't like real life at all, but the rules within the game are consistent. Pistol - short range, rifle long range.
IRL an M-16's optimum range is 300 meters. This is called Battle Sight Zero (BZO). The M-16A2 can hit pointtargets (someone's head) at 500 meters. It can hit area targets (a torso) at 800 meters.
When I was in the Marines the M1911 was still the sidearm issue. This is the famous Colt .45. It's range is far less accurate at range, but more versatile and less encumbering up close. But even at 60 metersa marksman can place shots on a target equally well with the .45 as the M16. So the ranges in the game are wacky. But if they made it so it was realistic then everyone would have to be a rifleman to compete.
As it is ranges and specialties in the game are altered so you can have 3 ranged weapons specialties, long, medium, and pistol. I've played with carbines pistols and rifles and they all take different approaches to be succesful with them, but I wouldn't say one has the definite advantage over the other.
Now, shoot a scout pistol at something at 60 meters and look at the damage a laser rifle can do at 60 meters.
You will notice a HUGE difference, because ideal range for laser rifle is 60 meters.
Now, shoot rifle at something at 19 meters, scout pistol range, and you will see the opposite effect.
Close up - rifleman is dead. At range, pistoleer is dead.
laser rifle
12/20/52
ideal range 60 meters
10 - 290
6.8 spd
wound chance 10
----
scout pistol 35 - 80
wound chance 7
range 19m
spd 3.1
10/20/10
If you try both weapons at the ideal ranges you'll see how much more accurate rifle is over pistol at range, and vice-versa.
Yes IRL a rifle would lay you out at great distances and you'd own the pistol all the way up to two or three meters away. But this game is trying to make distinct classes so people have different advantages / disadvantages. Also IRL if you are ever shot even once you wouldn't be in much condition to fight back except in a last-ditch effort, and you'd need surgery and a good leave of convalesence to recover. In the game you can get shot a few times and just have to rest for a few minutes. So we ain't talking reality here, just a game with it's own rules. One thing the game emphasizes is teamwork, so they have the long-range, mid-range, and short-range guys.
Basically rifleman is for people who long to stay away from the nitty-gritty and snipe. Pistols are for the people who like ranged and hand-to-hand (ie pistolwhip). And carbine is for the people who like to alternate long - short range.
Duel witha pistol at your level and try different ranges. Unless it's a friendly duel I would never engage a rifleman who has me at range when I have my pistoleer. Not unless I'm going to burst run and catch up to him, at which time I may have some mind left.

Yeah T-21 needs to be fixed.
And at least we have real questions. Pistoller questions were dumb. THey want a gun twirl. lol
Hey who changed my SWG shortcut to MOHAA? **edit**.
I dunno. It's just my observations.
I've never killed anyone at 64 meters with the pistol. Maybe a kreetle.
I've been nicely killed at 60 - 50 meters by rifles.
get pistol and use knockdown. you lose about 140 each blow. previously we could spam it, now you try to spam it and you'll be dead in 6 - 7 knockdowns. unless you have a medic nearby that can refill your action.

Hey Soko you ever use a pistol???? Every pistol I have used uses ACTION NOT HEALTH!!!! I am up to Pistol 3 in BH so I think I know what I am talking about. You have not seen how the other half lives. NO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REST AS OFTEN WITH CARBINE OR PISTOL, RACE HELPS BUT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. IF YOU CAN USE A STIM TO HEAL WHAT HAM YOU USED IN COMBAT YOU HAVE FAR LESS DOWN TIME THAN HAVING TO SIT ON YOUR ASS. ALL OTHER RANGED WEAPONS USE ACTION, SOME CARBINES, THE EE3, USES MORE THAN 1 HAM FROM WHAT I HEAR.
