This would not(in my opinion) be a complete overhaul by any means. It is quite an undertaking though. I would love to see this idea brought in, but it will be at least a year away if I had to venture a guess. With all the revamps, fixes, JTL, and things going on, nothing 'brand new' will be seen too soon. If they have something like this scheduled already it'll be here much sooner, but still in the far-distant future...

I know this has been brought up before, but it's too good of a thing to let go. Adding another profession that would begin where some elite professions currently end, would really let people hone their existing skills and learn newer, more advanced skills that complement their chosen profession. We'll see if this ever takes off.....nice idea for the 2nd or 3rd expansion, huh?

hmmm ok now that im all rested up, i will probably make more sense here

the bottom line is, we are Rifleman. we use rifles. there is no clear deffinition

even dictionary.com doesnt give a clear definition

ri·fle·man
n.

  1. A soldier equipped with a rifle.

  2. One who shoots a rifle skillfully.

rifleman

n

1: someone skilled in the use of a rifle

2: a soldier whose weapon is a rifle

it doesnt define how close. it could be 64m or 5m. the point is the rifleman is acurate with his Weapon of Choice.

so my questions are:

1. do we want to be JUST snipers?

2. do we want to be JUST gunners?

3. or do we want a combination of both, with a combination of wepaons for the job, covering close range to long range.

incase you were wondering i want number 3. just my two cents

Rifleman is pretty good as is. We are infantry with some sniper like abilities. Some say we are gunners. However we aren't really that as the 'gunner' idea comes from the AoE attacks. Yet assault rifles are capable of automatic fire and hence also of AoE attacks.

TH's statement that their vision of Rifleman being 'long ranged snipers' doesn't work since there is no 'long range'.

We don't have to change much in the profession. Other than get StartleShot replaced with something else since it's redundent. And fix or change SurpriseShot so we know how it's suppose to work.

Our biggest challenge is going to be surviving the combat revamp.

I don't see them adding a 'super elite' profession. If they did it for Rifleman they would have to do it for most if not all the other professions. Or at least the combat professions. To much work to add in with limited return most likely.

It will be intersting to see how they answer this question.

Too many people want to be snipers for us to throw it out the window and too many people want to be gunners for us to throw that out the window. Even though it is impossible for us to be a 'real' sniper with this game's mechanics, TH has informed us that the Dev Team's vision for us is to be a 'long-range-sniper'. As we are now, we are a pretty nice mesh of both sniper and gunner, so we are hoping to keep that the same through this combat balance.

Another option is to make Rifleman a gunner and create another profession related to it or coming after the Master box that would introduce sniper weapons and skills. Or to destroy the current profession and create two new ones from it. However, I don't think either of these things will likely happen.

i think you misunderstood my post...i didnt mean a "super-elite" profession for only rifleman. i meant it for all professions.

i would be really cool if you could have the option to have a SUPER ELITE choice as a profession and it would possible take all 250 skill points or high majority

possibly a Sniper profession, look at the real millitary snipers are rare, theres not alot of them and they are very specialized

Real military Snipers= Rare? i dont think so i come from a long line of USMC Scout Snipers. true how there may be fewer then the ammount of men put into artillery, and other places Snipers are not a rare find, at least here in the US

What percent of military members are trainedsnipers? It's easily less than 1%. They are rare in relation to the total number of people in the military. One other thing to consider is how in the US the bases are often specialized in the troops that are there. If you are on a base that trains snipers they won't be rare. But any other base? You also have to consider the branch. The Marines probably have the highest percentage of snipers of any US military forces. Second would be the Army. But you would have a very low percentage in either the Navy or Air Force.

I agree in regards to the range issue on Rifleman - 64m just aint enough, enhancd it to 200m and maybe i wont have to 'kite' enemies as much and my tag of 'sniper' will actually mean something...

i have been a rifleman for some time and have thought this issue over, so here's what i have to contribute:

increase rifleman distance to 128m or higher (not going much over 200m) and make it so riflemen can ONLY shoot from greater than 64m if they are prone (or face extreme accuracy modifiers if standing, such that they barely hit 1 of 10 shots), and then return their normal accuracy after they get in range of 64m or less. this would allow the riflemen to have more of a sniping roll (64m really doesnt cut it) and allow them to also be gunners when they get into closer range, the ability which i'm sure all riflemen want to keep. the sniping ability from a greater distance, because of it needing to be in a prone position, would be fairly ineffective in PvP, but it would be nice in PvE. no radar changes would need to be made, from 128m the rifleman could easily see his target. other options could be thrown into the mix such as requiring the rifleman to be in Cover from beyond 64m and making Cover require a longer time to get into and out of, perhapes 4-5 seconds. this idea would allow the rifleman to have more of the sniping role which we currently dont have to much of an extent, and still allow us to run in with guns blazin'. to make the rifleman profession either one would anger different people who enjoy playing different ways, and with the amount of rifleman now this would not be a good thing. it is important to make "normal" combat professions more enjoyable and "cool" in order to keep one or two people happy with a regular profession and not trying to go jedi
