Thread: Ranged Shot IS better than Improved Head Shot

i was testing my theory on kimogillas today - slow and lots of ham.

using ranged and placed shot:

i hit for an avarage of 955pts per hit

each shot took an avarage of 1.47 sec to complete (alternating)

a dps of 650

using headshot and advanced critical

i hit for an avarage of 1690pts per hit

each shot took an avarage of 2.67 sec to complete (alternating)

a dps of 632

this is same rifle, same creature, same foods, same speeds, clothing, tapes, armor...etc

best bit is each head or critical shot took 10% action, where each ranged or placed took 1%. my regen with a +185 food was 2.4% per second. i ran out of action after 71 secs with head and critical but never with ranged.

my rifle does 505 - 1143 damage, 1.4 speed (my modded) with 70 SAC after a pup.

conclusion, stick a damage pup on instead, slow the riflea little, increase the action and increase the damage and NEVER USE HEAD OR CRITICAL SHOTS

Wasn't head shot supposed to give a chance to dizzy the target?

just a few others i've tested:
alternating between ranged and headshot (perhaps the quick regen of ranged would help with a high damage of head)

avarage speed per shot 2.6sec
avarage damage 1369
so = 526 dps.

though my action never droppped below 90%

oddly putting a damage pup on my rifle instead of the SAC one dropped the DPS for ranged and placed from 650dps to 540dps! even though max and min damage went up from 500-1146 to 640-1320ish.

still best bet is to stick with ranged and placed shots, so you can conserve action for shots like root, knockdowns, confusion, etc.

still strikes me as odd though, improve the damage and proportionally increase the time per shot! guys this doesn't help us.

I'm not really convinced by any of the "high" damage attacks, they all seem to eat action (and force) very quickly for not that much more damage.

This is a good example.......of why dps is misleading.

I USED TO take Defense Stacker 2....do you?

Heheh, I never even got onto the DPS Bus. The old, Pre-CU habit of examing damage, speed, accuracy, etc.... examining and judging the weapon as a whole, is much better than relying on a single, magical number.

I know I can put down a mob quicker by alternating HeadShot and LegShot. Maybe its got something to do with some resists on the Kimo or something, try it on a level 82 bol or something and see if the same holds true.

dps is retarded.

i was with a BH carbineer in the ryatt trail, he was outdamaging me hands down. he was shooting 3 times faster than i was. and, i'm not sure what specials he was using but he could shoot the high level mobs for nearly as much as i could. but even when he didn't use high damage specials, he would hit for 450dmg 3 times to my one shot of 1100 damage.

now i realize that being a ranger i have no other mods but what is in the rifleman profession. but just goes to show how so NON-uber rifleman is.

the thing to bear in mind regarding DPS is that what is displayed on your weapon is retarded - modded or base, it doesn't matter. it bears no relationship to your actual damage per second in real time. the different attacks will only alter your damage at a set multiple ofa base attack and similarly only slow each attack recycle down. DPS is valid just not in the way everyone reads it.

we all still do damage and it takes time to do it. ie DPS

like i've said before there is no point doubling damage if you also double to time it takes to execute it! as far as i see, there is no point to attacks like headshotcurrentlywhere they have no effects or states attached over that of ranged or placed.

I think that critical and headshot were meant to be used more as a type of finishing shot then spam specials.

never once i run out of action using head shot/critial shot. my rifle after pups is 58 SAC. 1185damage. (Got a 0% Slice on damage, 1184 become 1185 lol) . i pop a kiwik and i'm all good , i solo djm, krayt and not once i run out of action. when hunting djm and krayt i just let my marco run spaming head shot and critial shot.
