I think I have to agree with all of that. Blind would not be overpowering, but could still make the skill useful. Perhaps a single-target Blind for Startle1 and an AoE Blind for Startle2?Maybe that AoE Blind is asking a bit much(or maybe not), but it's an idea. Also, we still lack any single-target, random HAM, high damage shot. Currently, Surpriseshot is the winner there with 3x damage(correct me if mistaken as it's not quite commonly used ). Speaking of which, shall we discuss alternatives for Surpriseshot here too?

I'm going to be working on a document for Guruweaver to take to the Summit for us. I need some ideas to fix or replace StartleShot1/2.

waste already did an informal thread about this, but no clear resolution came from it.

I can't add much to my previous thoughts on it.

A state-effect, delay, or intimidate are really the most likely candidates I can see... and I don't see much use for a state-effect here (we already have stun and dizzy... perhaps blind?), a delay isn't very useful (and infringes on smuggler and brawler skills), and intimidate, while it would be great, is likely 'too-powerful' (and cuts into the brawler skills) even vs a single target. a ranged AOE intim would be great, but I don't think it keeps a balance.

at the very least: a bump in the damage modifier would improve it over /flush.

Ah, I get it now. I do find Stun more useful than a Posture Down in most PvE, so switching the position of the two in the tree would make sense. Thanks

making startle into a posture down won't be accepted. I would love it to be a posture down, that would be i can drop the damned ranged support line from marksman, but unfortunately an AoE posture down will never be given to riflemen. I would rather have startle shot work as delay, but with a smaller timer than say panic shot. so make it maybe a 5 second delay, thats realistic and useful imo.

You can make Startle shot our non-AoE High Damag Attack, and make surprise shot what was probably intended to do: used under cover with a damage mod but a secondary effect that alertness is supposed to decrease the effectiveness of.

i really think that the problem isnt in the move, its in the system...

what i would like is for all ranged weapons to shoot twice as far, but be twice as innacurate or (ranged defense be twice aseffective) while standing/moving, kneeling would makeaccuracy 1.5 times worse, and prone would bring us to what we are now...

dunno.. been pvping for 13 months.. 11 of which ive had master rifle, and this is honestly what i would like most o=

Firstly,a bump in the damage mod would give it a use, but only for non master riflemen in the grinding process.

On the old thread, someone proposed a clearing of combat actions, but I don't know if that's possible.

An idea of mine is to make it force a targets burst run, but shorten the duration to zero.

So the minimum to make this skill useable by anyone is a boost in damage and either one of the ideas above, or a state that doesnt infringe on other professions (I couldn't think of one).

I've got an idea for SurpriseShot. Looking at moving it to Concealment IV and making it as you state, a high damage, long delay single target attack.

I'll be going back over the older post about this to to look for ideas. But also wanted to post a fresh one to see if we got any new ideas.

I'm not inclined to ask to give it a state effect we don't already have as I don't want to infringe on other professions abilities to do state effects.

Maybe at the minimum to switch it from Posture Up to Posture Down and flipping it in Counter-Sniping with FlushingShot1/2 since it wouldn't have an effect also. Just throwing ideas out.

So possibly make Startles Posture Down instead of Up? Makes sense But the other part I don't quite get- Flurryshots are currently in the Special Abilities tree with a Dizzy/AoE Dizzy effect. Are you looking at moving them(fine with me I guess) or do you mean Flushingshots? So put Startle 1 where Flushing1 currentlyis and vice versa and then the same thing with the 2s? And what did you mean by the 'since it wouldn't have an effect also'? Sorry, maybe I'm not thinking well today. It's hot here

No you are correct. It should have stated switching Startle1/2 with Flushing1/2.

I meant that since StartleShot1/2 would be a Posture Change only with no state effect unlike FlushingShot1/2, put StartleShot lower in the branch.

How about this, we give it the blind state effect, but to balance out us stealing another state attack we lower the damage done by it to be 1.5-2x so it is basically just a state effect shot and the amount of harm we do with it is nearly ignorable...relatively. Or drop the damage on the flushing shots and leave startle's damage where it's at. Either way.
