this is in the NewbFAQ but here goes again anyway

Conceal shot -

  • creatures do not see where the shot is coming from

  • best at a range of 50+ (use your best rangeband)

  • prone is still best

  • breaks when you miss multiple times

  • works great from novice and up

  • take the time to use /aim from the marksmen tree if you have it

  • if it does break and you are at 50+ m and prone generally you only draw aggro from the target you are attacking

  • -TAKES A LONG TIME TO KILL KRAYTS AND NS ELDERS THIS WAY-

  • randomly lands a bleed that can cause aggro so do not do it afk

I think this guy is really asking how it is used specifically... if I'm not mistaken.

Just find your target(s) and a spot 50m away relatively free of wandering mobs, lairs, etc. Kneel and plunk away. Keep on your toes, however, because if you miss twice he and probably all his friends will be running your way. To prevent this, just /dump and /peace and begin again... this will reset your "miss" counter.

You can also use this to pop the lair without aggro'ing the whole area. Use a conceal shot followed by a /peace and wait for next two to pop out, if not, rinse and repeat until you see a BIG negative number above the lair to its health, that is an indication that half a second later 2 mobs will pop out. Don't be attacking the lair after they pop or you get both on you.

Hope this was more practically helpful, although the above poster is right, you should be able to find basic FAQ stuff like this in the newbie FAQ.

The 50m+ is a guide, some things agro a lot easier than others, I think its the alertness mod that everybody wonders about, I have conceal shotted a at-st to death while standing, 13m away from him. I can't walk up to him overt that close however, or start concealing him, but If I startconcealing hime while he is around 45-50m away and keep concealing him, I am good. If however I /peace him when he is closer than 30m from me, he immediately notices me and starts rocking my world.

when you get master and +100 concealment chance everyshot is like conceal shot.
I usually stick to head3 when fighting. As long as your prone at good range you
can kill most things with this.

no it is not like conceal shot

regular headshot 3 = at most 15-20 shots before aggro even against a low alertness creature

conceal shot = unlimited shots without aggro as long as you do not miss or draw a bleed.

Also where do we get a conceal shot mod? we have a cover mod which relates to taking cover (an increase in ranged defense) but it does not affect the alertness of a creature.

conceal shot is only really useful when you're just starting out in the Rifleman department. As you get better it doesn't matter if you aggro the lot cause you can waste an entire group of enemies in a few shots.. (startle2, flushing2, strafe2, anyone?)

It matters if you plan on hunting Krayts/Elders and have little to no defences.

Conceal shot is the greatest ever. It's especially useful when leveling. You have a better chance of not being seen if you are kneeling or prone. I hunt unbuffed alot and conceal shot is very useful to avoid being attacked by an entire mob.

I think it's safe to say that conceal shot alone is not going to take down a krayt. You'd have to spam conceal a thousand or more times to take one of those down and by then, it'd be on top of ya. Even with my ranger skills I can't avoid em for that long...
