Thread: Rifles and Mon Cals, Can it Work???

OK, I have a few toons, and have finally master rifles on my human. I was one of my "to-do list" professions, and I love it. But the toon was ment for other things. I had tried, granted only like rifles 1002, with one of my Mons and it sucked. I was wondering if folks had any suggestions. I will list the probs I've run into.

Ok, so Mon Cals do have a great 1300 Mind stat, but as we all know, it's the supporting stats that matter most. There Mons are not so lucky. They cap at 1300/850/650 even when capped, once you add in a Comp helm you have crap focus/willpower. I know w/ my master rifles/cm toon, that w/ 800/1100/1100 stats and full mind buffs, I can spam specials til the cows come home. But w/ my mon I was losing mind at a fast rate. I am trying to figure a way to do this. as I know swords/rifles is a great all around build. Can anyone that has been successful w/ master rifles and a Mon please help me out.

I do both high-end PvE and PvP, swords/rifles seems great for this, and would love to try it. I can't mod my other account to this, he was intended for something else, ans I need to get moving on that. And should anyone suggest it, I CAN'T re-roll. I love this lil' girl. If she went, so would I. So please help me figure out a solution, or at least put this idea to rest.

I thank you in advance for reading and/or replying.

I tend to use the effectiveness slices rather than encumbrance, but only use the mini-suits to help compensate. Yes it burns suits faster, but since I tend to fail 75% of my repair roles anyways, figured what the hey.

So that is around 280-310 encumbrance on the helm alone, about 500ish mind encumbrance for the whole suit. Are u using just brandy and Ahrisa? Or a mind Buff too?

Thanks.

PS. I would love a few views on this. ATM this response has gotten me feeling all tingly inside, HEHE

I'm a master rifleman / master doc Mon Cal. I wear helmet, chest, boots, gloves, left and right biceps. All sliced for effectiveness not encumberance. With 2 Ahrisa and 2 Brandy, I can spam whatever attacks I want to and I never drop any mind. With 2 Brandy and 1 Ahrisa, I takea -18 hit per strafeshot2 and -22 per headshot3. Still not bad. And pretty much all I do with this character is Nightsisters, Krayts, and PvP. No problems.

I dont use mindbuffs and I some times use a non slice helmet

I agree with the other guy, being a mon cal isnt impossible as far as rifleman is concerned. In fact the other mon cal in my guild is a riflefish

totally doable ^_^ Rifles is possible for every race but Mon Calamari are probably the 2nd best choice overall for rifles.

SWEET! Well I am gonna map out my path to swords/rifles in the morn. Try to figure a path that will work best. Gonna miss the insane def I have atm. Nothing like ppl ending duels b/c they can't hit you, lol. But I need to change up my other toon and drop rifles on him - But I love it, so I need to include it somewhere. Thank you to everyone that has replied. You have really made my day. I tend to use Mind buffs all the time, and have brandy/ahsira on me at all times, for when they fade. I will let you know which I like better once I master. WOOT!.

Again, thank you all very much.

If I were on the same server I would buy you a crate for the help. Maybe someone seeing this post can hook you up. Thanks

Yeah, for PvP you should have no problems with Mon-C, or for big game hunting. Those are fairly short lived.I can hit 2100 mind with just brandy, and3400 if I'm mind buffed.

Where I run into trouble is on the long grinds... I can keep the focus high enough without buffs to hose everything I see with specials for about an hour and a half, 2 hours if I'm careful. After that, my stocmache gives out on me, and the helmet has to come off if I want to keep at it.

OK, so here is where I'm at build wise atm...

Master Brawler/Swords/Fencer, TK 4104, FS Combat 0044, FS reflexes 0100

Here are the builds I was thinking of. Any input, cheers, /slaps to the head, whatever are greatly appreciated. Thanks

#1 Master Rifles/Swords/TK 4204/Marks 4000/FS Combat 0044/FS Reflexes 0100

Ranged Def. : 132 (caps @ 125) Melee Def. : 127 (caps @ 125)

Def. Vs. Blind : 30

Dizzy : 30

Intimidate : 20

Knockdown : 25

Posture Change : 60

Stun : 70

#2 Master Rifles/Swords/Pistols 0044/Marks 4403/FS Combat 0044/FS Reflexes 0100 (The ranged-Support tree being just for the interm while i decide/grind theFS Melee/ranged boxes)

Ranged Def. : 93 (Would be 111 w/ FS ranged/Melee Trees) Melee Def. : 107 (Would be 120 w/ FS ranged/Melee Trees)

Def. Vs. Blind : 60

Dizzy : 70

Intimidate : 20

Knockdown : 75

Posture Change : 60

Stun : 100

#3 Master Brawler/Rifles/Swords/Novice Fencer/Marks 4001/FS Combat 0044/FS Reflexes 0100

- Build just tossed in for the heck of it.

Ranged Def. : 109 (caps @ 125) Melee Def. : 87 (caps @ 125)

Def. Vs. Blind : 20
Dizzy : 30

Intimidate : 20

Knockdown : 25

Posture Change : 40

Stun : 60

OK, so here are my thoughts on the 3 builds above.

#1 is capped in both Melee and Ranged Def.Seems like it might be best for PvE, but I have also found that folks w/o A LOTof Tapes, food, or FS trees have a hell of a time hitting Def. Capped ppl. Also and this is IMPORTANT, this build has a few abilities not represented by the pure numbers. It provides TK powerboost, Wound Healing, and State Healing. These are abilities I have grown very, very dependenton. As none of these builds have any medic (run w/ docs most of the time) these are important, plus, being a Mon-Cal and having a 1300 mind, I can add 650 to my HAM w/ /powerboost. This comes in very handy, For serious action, Mind buffs, brandy and boost have my mind over 4k, it's a bit intimidating in PvP. Hehe, and I love it

#2 This build offers much greater State Def. and still offers good ranged/Melee Def.Getting thenumbers listed incaptions would take a bit of work, as they are the FS trees and take some grinding, which Ihate. Prof grinding I don't mind, it's something new, but grinding for just grinding, Blahh This build, at least numbers wise seems to be the best. But it does lack any sort of healing and this could make it weak in actual game-play

#3 I tossed this build in, for the heck of it. Icompletelylove Master Brawler, if all Melee, it's such a great addition. Losing Warcry 2, Intimidate 2, and 2handLunge 2 are going to take some major adjusting to get used to. having a very reliable KD for swords really adds to an already great Prof. But alsa I think there is no real build to include this and swords/rifles that makes much real sense.

Here Comes your part, - Rip it a part, make suggestions, complement (I can hope) or whatever. If you can come up w/ something you think works better, I am not a egotistical person. I WANT YOUR HELP. It only makes the game better for me and everyone I play with. If you can mash Medic into one of these builds, by all means, do it!

I have posted a few topics in Dif boards recently and I have to say I have been blown away by the help, insight, and just overall Cool-Factor of everyone that has read and responded. I would like to thank you all for that. It has made my week, and the weeks just starting

It's becuase I spend all my credits and high expplosives, I have enough thermal detonators, rockets, proton grenades, and imp detonators to blow up a small moon. Plus I have a T21 that is top 3 crafted on my server, plus some of the best crafted flamethrowers, BTW flamesingle 2 from a 1100 max flamthrower HURTS a jedi, esp when its 3.3 speed, and you can hit them again and again and again.......

i started as a moncal rifleman/droid engineer long ago and i did it all without buffs, not even food. yes i did die a lot but the kill was satisfying. these were during the days when anchorhead was full and cms would stand around waiting for trouble.

eventually i joined what everyone else was doing, i started using brandy and what not. if you dont grind and just play the game, you can get by without any brandy. if you want to fly through the profession then you will need the armor and the buffs. it all depends on how you want to play.

without anything more than a chest plate, one brandy was enough to get me through.

Well I started this morn to grind out rifles from novice marks. And did it w/o any foods or buffs. After 1.5 hours I am just shy of novice rifles. I enjoy the hard fights and hopeless battles (as long as I am not 1 hit killed, lol) So I tend to run fully buffed, both Doc and Ent. I do agree, it depends on your style. I don't grind for the most part, would rather have fun. It is a game after all, well it was ment to be, more of a life-style for most. TY for the input
