I really don't understand how everyone has so much trouble. I use snare and root traps BOTH available on the scout tree, I have felt zero change in how I hunt snorbals or anything else due to this patch. Riflemen are supposed to be thinkers hehe so start thinking about other ways to hunt, I usually allways find a way even if it takes alot of dying.

Leveling a rifleman was never terribly easy, I did it by kiting things that ran really slow (all of which have been fixed) or relying on doing enough damage before they got to me that I would get mostly rifle XP, even though I switched to a sword for the last hit.

The new accuracy penalty means that as things run towards you, you're going to miss them significantly more often. Yesturday is the first time I can recall missing someone 4 times in a row in PvP... they were running.

I'd be interested in hearing how the Snorbal kiters were doing last night as well, but newbie riflemen are particularly screwed.

At least with pistols, you don't care if you miss the creature while it's running at you. You can blast it just fine from point-blank range and not get hit too hard. Rifles have to switch to melee (or switch to pistol) or die from the 2.5x damage bonus. This change impacts riflemen in a bad way, hurting us far more than pistoleers.

And holocron wonders why there's so many pistoleers.

Well I don't know much about real life rifles, but I've played enough FPS games to know that if someone is running directly towards you (meaning, not strafing or something, but on towards you), then he stays in your scope sights the whole time, and it is even easier to hit the target. Now of course this is if they are still far away, not when they are at like 15 m. I think they should make it easier for rifleman to hit targets that are running TOWARDS them, this way they might be able to finish it off before they get killed in one shot. This will also make pistoleers thinktwice about where and howthey run, they will want to zig zag, or at leastjust not run straight at us. I'm not saying we should get a huge bonus to this, but at least take away the penalties for them running at us.

That's a good point Pecos, SOE is wondering why the huge influx in novice pistoleer, yet they give them no incentive to switch to rifle. In fact SOE gives them more incentive to use pistol.

I'm sad to say though, as an EQ veteran, this is standard operating procedure from SOE. They said it themselves, they don't know the game as well as the players, and it certainly shows.

Im sitting now, only sticking to my rifle because I really love it.. Not only have they **edit**ed up suppression shot, so I no longer can hold a creature back it is now also almost impossible to hit anything that runs..

WHAT THE **edit** IS UP WITH THIS?

I can't kill anything anymore. Only reason that I surivive is because I have 3 faction pets and a non-ch cowardly gurrek.. and still the silly wastland a cu pa managed to incap me...

I am seriously considering going like CH or something untill the Rifleman is fixed. As it is now it is impossible to do anything.

I can't kite, I can't kill while prone, I can't take the melee damage.. I can't be a novice rifleman...

Yeah, did anyone try Snorbals last night? I haven't tried since the patch, but I bet it sucks trying to kill them now with the kiting change, and kiting is instrumental to riflemen.

I wish I didn't have so much invested in it already (4424) or I'd switch to CH, BH or Commando.

In the meantime I'm using my sword more for PvE, because this is actually fun and I don't have to run my arse off to use it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of stopping kiting. It's as boring as dirt but it's also the only good way to XP as a rifleman.

Not so true friends, fellow rifleman, you can be as boring as I and set up a /aim; /concealshot macro, go toabout 50M, to compensate the snorballs "wanderer" range.

This is what I do:

Get snorball mission.

go to snorball nest.

Find a snorball.

Go prone, take cover if you want, activate aim concealshot macro.

You can actually walk off and do something elseif you are bold, what I do is I turn around and play on my PS2 till I hear either of 2 things: The victory music, or a raging elephant charging toward me. Then Iwarningshot, sit and wait till combat ends, then pick on a new snorball, that other one will eventually come back. Make sure the elder in the pack is a female, otherwise the whole pack BAF's.

Something I was only able to pull off 2 times is rage into the scene of a snorball nest and warning shot all the snorballs, then proceed to attack the lair, landing me a quick and easy, painless 16K cash. Kept dying after the first 2 tries though, I think the snorball's tiny brains evolved a resistance, or inhibitor to warning shot, at least for me anyway.lol

Ryushi, the problem with this approach is that it will take forever to gain xp and you can't use it if you're still a marksman building up to rifleman.

I was kiting snorbals last night. Or at least trying to. Here is my experience.

Use maskscent and kneel or prone before you fire. This should *keep fingers crossed* allow you to get off three shots before it aggros. This is very important. I would mindshot2, mindshot1, headshot2. Then get up and run.

Don't sure specials much when running and shooting. I would miss an average of five times before I got a hit. So you'll eat up your mind bar trying to do specials on the critter. Just let it do the auto fire base attack. Your bleed is what is going to kill it.

They've increased the melee range it seems. I was getting hit from a farther range then before this patch. What exactly the range was I can't say for sure. Between 5-10m at least.

Don't bother kiting the nest. You aren't going to hit much with the new running penalties. You'll end up with a whole lot of really upset Snorbols chasing you and they will heal the lair. With that many chasing you there is a good chance that the "warp" bug will bite and you'll get either hit with a posture down attack or incapped realy quick.

For informations sake. I don't use pets at all and I was doing this solo. Use of pets would of course make some changes.

I gave up with my missions. To much of a headache trying to finish them off and not a very efficient time to money ratio. It was still great XP though.
