Thread: is Rifleman still gimped (for PvP)?
I quit a while ago, but now I want to play again. I played a rifleman back then and I want to start one again, but if it suck's i'd rather take something else. I want to PvP a lot. Thanks!
In the last month, almost all those weaknesses were erased, making Rifleman by far the best 1-on-1 PvP prof right now. They are more powerful now than pistoleers and bounty hunters ever were, especially with all the 80-90% base resist armor out there.
Due to armor, there are many situations where stun damage is the only viable means of attack.
Due to the strength of stims these days, mind damage is often the only way to really take someone down.
Due to recent melee profession dabbling for defense, super-high accuracy is the only way to mount an effective offense against such tanks.
In these regards, Riflemen have it all. 1 second head shots w/ Jawa Ion Rifles reaching 500 max (powered up), at +170 accuracy (and the ability to just about double that by aiming), mean that anyone w/o specialized stun protection armor is toast in 5 seconds or less. Even w/ stun armor stacked w/ a PSG, you can only prevent about half the damage...so it's a 10 sec kill instead of 5.
Add in sniper shot to clean up bodies in a large-scale battle, conceal shot to solo anything w/o aggroing, T21s (stop complaining about them being nerfed...I made a new one that powers up to 808max) that can cut through the toughest MOBs, and a pretty good set of defensive bonuses (+72 ranged def, etc), and Rifleman is just about unstoppable. No the melee penalty is being changed to a melee accuracy bonus, so Riflemen get even better.
Keep in mind, all this applies only to Master Riflemen w/ badass equipment. I have a characer like that. The only thing that ever comes close to killing me is poison, or an equivalent Rifleman.
This profession is headed for a nerf. I'm sorry to say it, but it is just better than others across the board. I urge you all to talk to you correspondant about what kind of nerf you would find most acceptable. The 3 sec cap on shots has been floating around SOE for a while. It might not be all that bad, considering the other strengths that Riflemen have.

is it not the case that most elite prof masters with good equipment and well thought out dabbled skills, with good buffs, and good tacticsare on an equal footing in PvP?or is it really the case that some are more equal than others?
My own PvP experienceis somewhat limited.. ive won vs most profs.. and ive also lost alot to most of them too.. i dont like the generalisation that ALL riflemasters are too powerful - sorry if thats not what you were trying to say.
are you saying that because we have access to a AP1 stun weapon and mind targeted shots we need nerfing?
being master rifleman, you can kill just about anyone - as long as you have the mind to do it.
we have no threat from armor, for the most part.
our only problem is when melee can get a jump on you, but even then - ussually you can pull it off and not die.
will be nice once the 2.5x modis removed, cant stand being 1-hit from melee. )
Being master rifle you can kill just bout anyone, having master tka along with that and a suit of 80% armor, some buffs, a bit of muon fishak bivoli and vercupti and you are unstoppable by anything less than a small army.

I read all the combat profession boards and every one except (Pikeman & SL) has a post were they say they are overpowered. Just because you know how to pick your fights and have PVP knowldge does not make you overpowered. Smugglers/Carbineers are overpowered form KD, Pistoleers/Fencers are overpowered for KD defence and dodge, Swordmen/Riflemen are overpowered because of High damage, BH's are overpowered from the Combo of KD+Dizzy and then LCC on the ground, commandos are overpowered by the flamer, and TKA's are overpowered by all those nice utility specials they got.What professions are underpowered?(Well SL and Pikeman)
I go onto all the other boards and no one fears us, yes they respect us but there's no fear. What do they fear? Dizzy+KD, Flamer Dots, delay shots, but no Strafe Shot 2 and a Jawa Rifle aint there.
Maybe the original Pre-Nerf T-21 was overpowered, but High DD is no reason to nerf our profession.
Aye. Only time I die in pvp is when I get dizzy-KD'd and beaten to a pulp by a Blademaster (TKMs tend not to catch me, dunno why). Damage is damage, but the dizzy-KD tips the scales way more than raw damage can.
What I see as "gimped (for PVP)" in the rifleman is concealed shot & cover. Basically, you still show up on radarand you draw fire from concealed shot (inpvp.) Until that is fixed - master riflemen wont be able to spank groups of master marksmen.

missed 4 straight shots, and 5 out of 6,on atka/pistoleer/smuggler hybridnight before last. so tell me again about our uber accuracy?
other than that, i agree... we have a great pvp class. seeing alot more master rifles too.

Eh I doubt those master marksman are even going to be hitting you that often. A few strafe2s and you can spank a group of master marksmen easily. (If they only have master marksman)
I'm disappointed to see 2.5x melee go, it was a weakness I liked and I have a feeling it will be replaced by something I won't like.
