Thread: Someone out there, give me a reason to bother suffering through this PoS class one day more.
Recent rifleman experiences, my current skill level being 2-1-0-1
#1 took e11 rifle and a dh17 carbine made by the same crafter to talus to play with foaming vynocks as a test critter.
Rifle with just auto attack took close to 4 minutes to kill a vynock
Carbine with JUST intermed carbine skill took half as long almostevery time I did this test.
legshot 1 was killing faster for a lower ham cost then headshot3?!?
#2 In bella vistal today a bounty hunter walked up while i was TEF'ed and landed four 200+ eye shots before I could even get a second shot after my missed at 50m auto attack. (Some mind hitadvantage we haveeh?)
#3 Trying to kill baf mobs on lok today, and thanks to the ultra high ham costs along with the 2.5X melee damage it took me nearly 5 minutes WITH snare traps to kill 2 of the 3 mobs that ran after me and nearly twice as long to get my mind bar back after the fight. And this is if the mobs didn't use the force to teleport in my face which happened at least 4 times today as well.
I'm RIGHT on the edge of just saying forget this and going to take carbineer skills instead, so I'd really like to see one decent reason to bother putting up with the sheer fustration, lame dps, pathetic killing speed between downtimes, inane differences in accuracy vs other weapons, and all around general annoyance of attempting to be a rifleman. And don't bother with the SS2 response, I don't give a flip about the AoE's at the top, I'm more concernned about A: trying to get to a skill that soundsoverpowered anyway, B:Wishing for thesniper some people think rifleman should be butISN'T and C: making this a better class OVERALL Not the "How can I get to my nuke cannon the fastest way?" Class. If I wanted that i'd just have gone BH and go eyeshot everyone I see.
*turns off rant mode*
Anyone?
Meh,
Surrender your rifle skills... Our class will be glad to lose a rifleman whocan't work with what hes got and complains...
First off I'll apologize for the whiny attitude in the first post, it was 4am, it had been a rough night, and some cheap stuff had happened to piss me off. But as to working with what I have? Lets go down the list, and I'll try to keep my comments more civil this time.
Damage output: compared to other weapons rifle's just don't do enough. The novice marksmen skilldh17 carbine I have has nearly the exact same stats as my specialist rifle skill e11, to compare.
Carbine: 2.8 speed, 58-151 damage (unsliced)
Rifle: 5.4 speed 79-149 damage (with 16% slicing I got last night on damage)
(both bought from the same gunsmith)
Now if I look at these and see one that does nearly the exact same amount of damage at almosttwice the speed, has virutally the same range since we've established the whole rifle vs others ranged debate already, and lacks the melee 2.5X damage..Which do you think I would probably use? And if the issue is just that I need a better rifle perhaps I'll go look, but that e11 is still one of the best I've seen on Valcyn when looking for gunsmiths.
When I was doing the tests with the foamingvynocks they conned white to the e11 and smacked me for 400+ if a trap missed, but they conned red to the carbine and can only hit me for 110-150? And died twice as fast? This just doesn't add up, and doesn't meet with whatsome people complain about the swg rifles being, 1 hit killers. We just don't pre"nuke cannon" have the damage output to stop things from crossing that 64m mark and thrashing us, one missed warning shot, one failed trap, or one non working supression fire and it's game over before we get the next shot off, and the fact no otherranged combat classhas this issue isn't right.
HAM costs: I think enough has been said about this already by others. It's just too much downtime per kill, and impossible in big fights for us to last long.
Range"advantage": Ha, we don't have one enough said, I didn't pick this class tobeoutsniped by a BH/pistoleercombo firing 3 shots for my every 1, or having a melee user walk up and smack me dead in 1-2 hits when my head shots plink off him. As has been said riflemen prone and at 60m should be a serious threat, and right now we're just casual can be walked up to targets. Again, not right.
Conceal shot: I would like someone to explain how we can hit one target without him noticing, but his three friends beside him do? That simple issue in itself when combined with others makes it impossible for riflemen to attack any mob that brings friends, limiting our target choice and hence killing power to get ahead even more when compared to classes that can tank a few hits as they deal with the others. I will admit that if there's only two mobs I can use this to lure one away while his buddy leaves me alone, but that's not what I had in mind. Using a skill called conceal shot to get a mob to notice me is ironic you have to admit.
Cover: Broken still, doesn't do jack, and when you get up you walk at a snail's pace till you relog, needs fix, needs it now.
Surprise shot: From what I've read, still broken too right?
Flurry shot: Only decent skill I've seen when it comes to doing damage so far and dizzy dropping npcs. But since as has been stated we aren't supossed to be spamming specials, not that I can for more then 3-4 kills with HAM costs, I'm stuck doing pop gun damage by the end of most fights.
Headshot: HAM costs to damage output are terminally off. As are the damage to HAM cost ratio between headshot2 and headshot3, half the time 2 is doing just as much if not more for a lower HAM hit. Is this how things should be?
Look I'm sure things are hunky dory look at me i'm a super damage nuke cannon machine when you get to master, but the issue I have, and it seems a few other people have is getting tomaster in the first place. If the only thing I have to look forward to is slogging though the xp grind to rely on one massive AoEskill to hold up my entire profession, which without I'm all but useless in both groups and PvP......then yes, as much as I don't want toI probably will trade in my skills for something else.
I want to be a riflemen, I want to be able to snipe that critter dead from max range, I want to be a viable helpful part of swg, but if you took away SS2 and look at how things stand right now riflemen simply aren't able to hold a candle to carbine and pistol users of equal skill.
So I ask again, besides the mythical SS2 that with classes starting tomorrow I won't see anytime soon thanks to becoming a casual gamer again, what do I have to look forward to trying to work though rifleman? Cause right now it's not looking like a viable profession to me.
An opinion above the level of just give up, and some real advice would be greatly appreciated if anyone can offer it.
2-1-0-1? You deserve to suck. That BH owned you like he was supposed to. I am 4-3-2-3 and only now I am beginning to comprehend the true power of this profession. I hear it gets even sweeter at master. I have 3 pieces of advice for you.
1) Stop whining
AND
2) Grind it out till you hit higher levels
OR
3) surrender your skills and go for pistol or carbine.
*makes an amused little laugh* I guess asking for real advice on top of fixing the major issues riflemen have was a bit too much huh? =P Makes me wonder why I even bother trying to spell things out to people sometimes.
E11? E11s blow get a laser rifle or advanced dlt20a
quit complaining
HehI use a laser that's sliced and powered up as my main weapon of choice, the reason an e11 was used there is to make a point.
e11 <-- cert is earned at rifle specialist.
dh17 <-- cert is earned at novice marksman.
And the dh17 wasoutgunning a gun with my beginning rifleman skills, that technically if you look at the skill tree should but wasn't doing anywhere near as much damage.
And I've also read that dlt20's have become the rifleman weapon of choice with laser rifles, so I'm just curious why it is rifleman are relying on marksmen skill tree weapons for an elite profession while BH's and the other elite classes are not?
Call me confused if you want but doesn't that seem like a bit of an issue that our best guns are earned in marksmen given the T21 changes?
