I am master ranger, everyone tells me to go master rifles too, how it's the best combo in the game. Wrong. It sucks, or I am doing something horribly wrong.

I am master rifles / master ranger, with a pretty good nullifier x rifle. People tell me that ranger/rifles can solo krayts. I cant even solo bantha's.

I do maskscent, then I apply a camo kit to myself, then I set my auto-attack to conealshot. Then I sneak up on a creature, go prone, and do my improved coneal

shot. If I am lucky, I get 2 shots off before being discovered. Usually, it's one shot, then I get charged and killed. What am I doing wrong? and why the heck

should I keep rifles?

a few things:

  • conceal shot is for opening volley only vs krayts

  • rangers traps help

  • stand and kite

  • autoattack = ownage by your target

  • maskscent and camo are your friend

  • use terrain to your advantage

Rifleman Ranger is fun - but it is far from the most powerful configuration in the game. (chose something like MRM/MBH or MRM/MP/3404carbs or some such thing for that. Ranger also might be better configured with a different skill set like a melee one(TK) or Carbineer Ranger might be agood choice as well. - good long range and uber snares + less movement hinderances for carrying the weapon. Good high damage specials and some nice state attacks.

In no particular order, get the very best rifle you can possibly afford, buy a crate of stim d's with 1k or better heal and put them on your tool bar, get the best suit of Marauder Armour you can afford and have the AS maximise the kinetic resistance, get some -26 speed -12 accuracy powerups they make a suprisingly big difference, use action regen and health regen foods.

I can solo CL82 mission lairs using conceal shot to start, then spam head shot when the creature gets to me and pop a stim once my health gets to 50%.

yes it sucks - your right. It used to be that rangers had a trap that would stop a krayt dead in its tracks - some sort of dart - then you could pop the krayt with your rifle which is generally high damage. That trap was about the only thing in ranger that was really useful but I am sad to say it seems they may have fixed it.

Rifle conceal ability is almost useless too since at the first shot your quarry almost always come sloping towards you. Camo kits are good but there are none for the new planet and they fail quite quickly again high level mobs.

My advice - drop ranger - pick up pistols and either CM4000 or a doc line. That way you can kite your krayt and stay alive.

The ranger life appealed to me alot but when I got to master ranger I was so dissappointed. The conceal line in rifles is also almost useless.

i just dont see it. i can get off 3 conceals and a snipershot before i have to stand up. i've been doing this for a bit now too. i'm not even a ranger. Mrifle/Mcarbs/Scout 4/0/4/0. starting from 65m's away whatever i'm trying to kill gets to 30 after the 3 shots then i use a sniper on em. from there it's adv cripple one time and kiting for the kill with ranged shot or whatever my action allows me to use. if it's a high end mob then i always use kd/startle when the cripple runs out to get some space.

heck with krayts or kimos it's easy to keep them away with that. when i fight them they dont even get to touch me.

I agree, when I am out soloing I always open up with at least 2 or 3 conceal shots, then finish up with sniper shot. Then I use the snare from carbines or root from pistol and haul a$$ to a safe 80M and fire away. I rarely ever get touched by any mob unless I am bored of using the same tactics over and over and try something different.

how are you all using conceal shot? If you sit there and spam it over and over again of course the mob will come running directly at you. hit it once, wait, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or so then repeat.

There is a camo kit for Kashyyyk. Its a quest item. Granted, they don't work too well on the Webweaver level of the Ryyatt Trail, but most of the Camo kits I've used on the other planets work just fine for me (but I'm a Master Ranger).

I can get about 7k Scout xp alone using a camo kit or 2 walking to the village from the Science OP.

i just do the 3 conceals, 1 sniper then boogie. never get an aggro of more than what i'm shooting at.

Yep, that is the other nice use for conceal shot, you can pull just 1 mob out of a group. I have been doing the sith camps and I hit one with conceal, another one get's the "?" then the "!", but if I wait a bit it seems to forget and goes back to non-aggro, then repeat

It sounds lke you may have been reading some pre-CU info about rifleman..it used to be a Rifleman could solo anything becasue they could use concel shot for EVERY shot and kill a mob without ever getting aggro. You didnt even need a trap.

THose days are gone.

I dont know what you CL is but heres a basic tactic to use the will be successful.

Go under cover, fire your conceal shots, when the mob aggros either you or your dropid toss a phenacine dart to snare the mob and slow it down.

Now get up and start moving away from the mob firing at it with your default attack, hitting the occasional headshot, all the while moving while you shoot. (called kiting)

5 shots is the most I have gotten off with conceal shot @ CL80 and Master Rifles. After thats its trap/kiting time.\\Use glow juice traps as well to make the mob more vunerable to ranged attacks.

ut the key for you is you cannot lay or stand there in one spot and shoot..you HAVE to move around if you are doing this solo.

One thing to do is this

conceal shot conceal shot sniper shot toss p-dart getup and default attack . Make the time uncer cover the best by saving the big shot for when the cover breaks. You are going to have to get up when fighting solo..its a fact of life.

well just for the record i can still solo just about anything so long as it's outside. the only area i'm solo gimped is indoors or in caves and such. but i can walk end to end on any planet and not get killed. dathomir would be the only planet it gets tricky on. but even there i'd have to do something extremely stupid to die.

Dathomir is tricky because of the hills, I have no scout in my template so I move very slowly up hills. Also, have to watch out for those red circles with red dots in the middle while kiting....

hehe, what i meant by extremely stupid.

i locate the best possible area with 100m's around it as safe before i start shooting anything. if i have to take off i want to know where i'm running to.

btw have you noticed the crowds those ns stalkers have been in of late? i've been seeing them in groups of 10 or more.
