asuming you arent another combat profession in addition to rifleman:

ranged accuracy (assuming it works)
ranged speed (assuming they fix it)
ranged defense

dont bother with melee defense, with our 2.5 to hit mod, +12 wont make a visible difference

Here are some random thoughts, worth every credit you are paying for them:

I assume you chose Combat Prowess as your first FS profession. If you have been into the village, then I also assume you have completed or are doing the missions from dageerin. The Village is currently inPhase 2(unless they changed it today) and those missions will unlock the Melee Speed tree, I believe. The Phase 1 missions unlocked the Rifle Accuracy tree I think.

If you have read much of these forums, then you know that the Rifle Speed tree is borked and you are currently getting your rifle speed bonuses from the Melee Speed tree anyway. My guess is it will take them forever to fix this just like everything else.
Depending on how much grinding you will be doing, if each phase lasts 3 weeks like phase 2 has, then you should probably just fill up the Melee Speed tree for now, or just accrue the FS XP and not even fill in boxes yet. If you don't have +97 rifle speed yet, then definitely do the first box or two of Melee Speed. After that, it's probably up to you.

Here are some helpful grinding tips to build up the 220 MILLION rifle xp you will need to reach initiate:

-- Dathomir has a LOT of 5K XP critters, and many of them are EASY to kill.

-- That list includes the advanced Rhoas and advanced Gaping Spiders and, of course, Rancors.

-- Run the Karamuth Defiler or Gaping Spider Recluse missions out of the outpost.

Why? because so far for me, each nest has 5 critters that spawn 3 times = 15 critters x 5K xp = 75K xp in one nest.

They dont pay as much as the Rancor missions, but they go much faster.

-- If you do the Karamuth Defiler missions, go prone at a distanceand pick them off one at a time.

They have a nasty low-grade poison that just refuses to go away!

Even better idea, to get the xp you'll need... go to the Geo cave, pull out a t21 or dxr6b with 5 speed or so, and SS2 for half an hour. I got 900k xp doing that 4 times. hasn't failed me yet. (my max on my T21 is 622 and my max on my dxr6b is 438 with 4.6 speed)

Didn't get to test this as much as I would have liked yet, but that cave is looking pretty good for XP. After maybe 45 minutes, I was up to 750k XP after spamming SS2 in one of the Crazed Geonosian rooms. There were 7 other people there at the time too(most/all melee), so I imagine it would be much faster with less...

The geo cave is good, just be careful. Sometimes the spawn goes crazy and something like 30 Geonosians will show up at the same time, all spraying area effect specials.

Hurts when that happens.

yes, yes, and, uh, depends on your server

SS2 is great, but even better when you get speed-capped with it. It is an AoE(Area of Effect) attack, so it hits everything in combat with you within a 30 degree cone in front of you. It also has a damage modifier of 5x which makes it our highest damage-per-shot attack.

The DXR-6b is very good. No Rifleman should not have one. AP2 Acid type damage with excellent accuracy and good minimum/maximum damage is hard to pass up. Price will depend entirely on what server you call home. Some people find them for less than 100k, some pay 500k. Try your galaxy trade forum for a good idea of what to pay or just check out a few of your local WS shops or malls.

I was considering the melee defense tree, but now you have got me thinking. Is there some place that explains exactly what ranged/melee defense does with some numbers to back it up?

Also, any official word on when ranged speed is supposed to be fixed?

Thanks!

I was wondering, do you have to use SP for FS to become a Jedi? I am a bit confused...
