It's that time again... how do we view ourselves as rifleman.

  1. Gunners?- The machine gunners of the world. Lots of AOE's and big damage to many targets each burst

  2. Snipers? - Single target killer types - Conceal Shot, Headshot etc.

  3. In PvE?

  4. In PvP?

  5. Combo of the two?

  6. Other?

  7. A perfect complement to what profession?

  8. Perfect profession to complement Rifleman?

btw: it is almost a year since our esteemed former correspondent left us... Klawlegna we salute you /salute where ever you may be now.

My view hasn't changed since the Devs asked this over a year ago. I'll post the same thing here as I did in that thread oh so long ago.

Rifles are Infantry with some Sniper-like and Gunner-like abilities.

As for the best compiment. I think that really depends on your play style. For me I like my Rifle/TKA combo. I can blast them for afar and then switch to my VK up close. As I'm also exclusively a solo player it reminds me of a Special Forces type template.

Same, who says you can't snipe with an M-16 then swap over to full auto?

Although we now know what the devs think we are so this is kind of moot. Fun though.

I'm a Rifleman cuase I'm a Ranger. It just works really well. Mean guns, single pool attacks and bleeds. I'm a PvE killing machine. And if I have to... conceal shot. All goes really well with camo, and traps.

To sum up a few of the questions into one, I too consider myself to be a combination of the "Gunner" and "Sniper" profile, which is a akin to Special Forces type soldier. Depending upon the situation, I'll switch up my attacks, so I never feel that I'm constricted to one type of play. Real Special Forces soldiers today are cross-trained in suppression fire tactics as well as sharpshooting, and while an operator may not be as "good" as a full fledged sniper, he can likely make a well-placed, long range shot when needed. In the game terms, I make use of both the Strafe attacks and the Head attacks as need be.

Personally, I wish that there was another "Tier" of Rifleman, whereby the player could choose to specialize in Sniping or Suppression fire tactics. In game mechanics, I would like to see this reflected as the Sniper being slower firing, but with much higher damage output ( I know we're powerful, but against def stackers and Jedis, that power is negated to a large extent, which I have a problem with) , and the Gunner being something like a higher-damage Carbineer (State attacks and crowd control). But to sum it up, I consider myself as being able to fulfill both roles.

For PvE, I feel capable of hunting virtually any high-end creaturein the game, albeit with a partner. True, I can solo NS Elders, but I'd rather have a nice tank there to make the process go by a lot quicker. When it comes to Krayt, GDK, hunting, or just about any other high-end loot game, I rarely find myself wanting for invites. Quite a few of my friends ask me to be their partner on hunting trips because of the damage I'm capable of.

For PvP, I think I operate more like a sniper. An intelligent method of engagement in any conflict is to redcue your opponents numbers by any means possible. To that effect, you saturate individual targets, thereby heaping on massive damage as fast as you can. Once you've eliminated your prey, they're no longer a threat, and you can move on to the next. Essentally, I do a quick recon of my foes, check their mind bars and the weapons they're using. When I spot my target, I generally just go for the head so that their only hopes for healing are a Jedi or Combat Medic (And I always target CM's first...priority target, IMO)

I view Rifleman as a primary profession, so it will never complement anything else.

However, something else can complement Rifleman I like having a melee' prof to utilize, so I lean towards TK or Pikeman. TKM is a great all around profession, but Pikeman is effective too becase of the Block and Mind DoT lances. Doctor and CM are also great choices, but I opt not to use them out of my personal playing style. And if you ever want to surprise someone...melee' stack your Rifleman...it's humorous

Thats a statement that I agree with for every profession, master should be the end of one road, but the begining of another more specialized one.

Yeah, glad to see someone else who agrees Master Fencers, for example, could maybe specialize in being faster fighters (higher Dodge and stuff like that) or becoming more lethal (Maybe give them a solid pool hitter that's actually worth something). The possibilities are really endless here, and I think it would make the game more enjoyable for everyone if we were allowed to take our professions to the next level.

Another idea I had would be for, say, a Rifleman/Weaponsmith. You could learn advanced Riflery attacks beyond Master, AND learn how to make really "uber rifles" as a Weaponsmith who specializes in them. Basically if a crafter paired up with a combat prof, that crafter would be able to make items that would be of a higher quality than anything a normal WS could make, since the combat-WS would know more about the weapons since he/she is not only making them, but also using them.

Pardon the brief thread highjack, but I feel really strongly about this idea Back to the topic at hand.

1. My title switches between gunner, and demolitionist, sometimes when I want to screw with peeps, I put up tera Kasi student and use aCOB macro

2. I Hardly ever PvE with rifles, My rifles are almost all custom made, I don't waste condition on them for PvE that's what a flamethrower is for.

3.a melee fightersworst nightmare, because I can lay down accurate fire so fast that you are dead before you can even come in range.

4. rifleman is a perfect complement to commandocommando

5. Pikeman comploments rifles well. That's all a pike nowdays really is, a rifle with a boyonet attached

details:

Rifleman are the backbone of any military force, because of there versatility. Our main goal is to pin down enemy tropps while the big boys come into play, (CM's = Artiliry using chemical warhead) Commandoes should be the heavy hitters. They can use a wide variety of weapons and tactics with one goal inmind, make the rubble bounce.one rifleman by himself is a nuisance, however a squad of rifleman, led by a good SL, is a deadly force that cannot be ignored, we can either bring concentrated fire down on a single soft target (people) or if the force is much bigger than us, pin them down until our ammo runs out. Every proffesion has its own role in combat, but we are the "glue" that holds it together, becuase we can fulfil many different roals at once. a quote by a Navy Admiral comes to mind, Marines rifleman come in 2 varietes, Rotweilers and Doberman Pincers, either they are big short haired and mean, or skinny short haired and mean, they are tenacious on offense, vicouse on defense, and they never fail to leave an impression.

carbineers should be better gunners than rifleman, but rifleman should still be gunners.

Hmm. I'd say that Commandos should be the better machine-gunners. Anything over a LMG is generally considered a crew served weapon or heavy weapon.
