Thread: Sniper Rifle (New Gun)
Thought that maybe we should have some sort of Sniper Rifle that can only be used by Master Snipers or greater skill levels.
Rifle Benefits:
1) The rifle could incap and DB in a single shot in PvP
Rifle Disadvantages:
1a) PVP: Must be used wtih Sniper Shot (If any other shot is used it would do very low dmg)
1b) PVE: Could be used with any other shot but would only be as powerful as say DLT20a or something
2) Would have tremendous HAM costs (Takes 1/2 Mind plus the cost of SniperShot)
3) Would be incredibly slow (15+ seconds)
4) Must be used from cover
5) Could not be used in battle events
With the ability to one hit kill, the balance of the masive HAM cost, and slow speed it would be the perfect weapon for snipers. Plus with the huge costs and such it would not be a weapon that could be used to spam moves all day. It would be exactly what it says. A sniper rifle, plain and simple. It would be great for sneaking up on prey and taking them down. But against groups it would be usless.
Any ideas or suggestions?
An interesting idea, but I would never use it if it were to happen. Why take up space for a weapon that prolly weighs a not that can only be used 1 out of 10 times? Not practical.
Natty, that's something I've been saying for some time. Pistols should never hit with high accuracy and damage from 64m out. Neither should carbines. As it stands, there really isn't a good reason for using a rifle other than mind shot 2.
I've lost count how many times I've tried to explain to people that pistoleers shouldn't have near 100% accuracy at 60+ meters. My current character is a master marksman with Novice Pistoleer 0/1/0/0 and Novice Rifleman with 1/0/1/1. I can and have always been able to engage targets without many misses using a pistol and that was before master marksman and Novice Pistoleer. Also, there are a few pistols that have been sliced and powered-up that can do way more damage than many rifles. It almost seems as though the devs have never read up on combat stats andeffective rangeof weapons or really even care to.
At the current rate, all weapons combat classes are pretty much the same. You can find weapons in all classes that do the same amount of damage, hit the same distances but the only difference is skill selection (this isn't including commandos). Pistoleersandbounty hunters using pistolscan dish out more damage per second than any body besides a commando when they connect.
you have to give them a weapon with enough range so they don't have to hop up and move around if the enemy falls back
cover that can hide them from the enemy, radar and vision
(a sniper could be spotted if he shot ppl could listen to where the shot came from, head in that direction to find the sniper and dispact him.
why couldn't it be used in a battle?
make so the sniper is a charged weapon, say 30 shots, and has to see a weaponsmith for the correct ammo. (so the sniper uses his ammo with care, as sniper ammo is heavy this would make sense) and yes a large delay as the sniper shooting from 100 meters would have to be prone, in cover, take his aim and manage his breathing before fireing.
I might be wrong Swiller but I have many people tell me that the T21 is suppose to be a repeater or automatic rifle not a sniper rifle. The laser rifle, at the moment, is about the best thing to a sniper rifle when it's built with a stock and a scope.
To the original poster, this is not a bad idea.It would benice to have a weapon like thiswhen one shot kills are a must. It would also work for taking out high level opponents or opposing PA heads.
That would be very sad and a huge over-sight if 65m is hard-coded. I know people will call it nerfing, but they will need to decrease the max range of other ranged weapons. Carbines and other heavy weapons should be limited to 45m, pistols and flamethrowers to 25m.
I used to think of the T21 as a possible sniper rifle, but now that I think about the T21 is more of m16 than a m14. So a new sniper rifle would be cool if possible, if not the proffession itself needs improvements to make it viable.
