Now that rifleman crawl speed mods got yanked, we really need a base crawl speed increase.

Yes, I was wondering wheather rifle crawl spped worked. When I wasa Master Ranger, any terrain negotiation over 50 was for crawl speed (if I remember correctly). So I have been wondering about this mod.
However we should be careful, when we can go /cover and then pop out of cover with sniper shot (mega damage) then kip up shot to standing, THEN use roots from other templates, THEN kite... etc, we might open ourselves to the nerfbat if we ask to enhance crawl.
But perhaps some small crawl increase would be ok.

edit My point is that some people may not realise how fast master rangers can crawl. SO... a big crawl speed allows a rifleman to /cover and crawl quickly into position while not on radar. (almost as good as Jedi... we all know that is not allowed lol)
SO, this is why I think only a small increase should be asked for, so we can avoid the nerfmonster.
Just a thought on the politics of Senator Nerf.

I crawled 40 m yesterday on a Jedi hunt. Took forever. (then I had a targeting bug and I couldn't target him either).

Hehe, just what I was thinking, although a squad leader with some exploration skills from scout would also get the bonus to crawl speed.

Get scout 4xxx and squad leader 3xxx, and you'll be crawling like a champ as long as you are grouped (can be with a droid or pet) and are the leader.
Still, I'd like to see riflemen get some crawl speed boosts also... Removing them from ranger, and making the SL bonuses apply only to hillclimbing would be a nerf on professions that are already down, but on the other hand, they have no particular reason to want them anyway. So I say yank 'em from there and give those two professions some other skill that can compensate.

Why removing them from Ranger LecheHombre?
Just a FYI taking anything from ranger and giving to rifleman would prob be a bad idea right now.... They got pretty screwed by CU, rifleman got invis which rangers have always wanted, and most rifleman didn't want, oh also the devs broke an entire tree of theres with that invis, becuase they can't use camo anymore.
Another FYI, there camo tree being broken was broken in first version of CUrb, and the devs finally realized it, took enough bug reports ect from the rangers......

Au contraire LecheHombre, you obviously are not a Ranger. Crawling is part of how you keep your camoflauge intact against angry mutant rancors. And a lot of Rangers are ranged (even Riflemen) so the crawl speed gives them something for all the skill points they spend.

another solution is bio engineered clothing. there are bandoleers and shirts that offer +17 TN each. of course since clothing mods are capped you will only get +25 out of the +34.This will only help people who already have some TN from scout or another profession.
Also, when i tested this, if you removed the clothing containing the skill ehnhancement while still prone, you continue to receive the TN bonus untill changing postures.

I had a feeling I'd take some flak for this one... Let me explain.
I was a master ranger for a long time. I dropped it even though I love the potential, as well as what the profession is now, but I simply cannot justify the reward to skillpoint investment. So, I know that rangers are already hanging onto precious few benefits and profession defining roles, and I hate to suggest something that sounds like kicking the profession when it is already down (in my opinion).
However, crawl speed is actually a useful skill for riflemen, especially now that cover/conceal and sniper shot are only do-able while prone. It makes sense for these shots to work while prone, and it makes sense for riflemen trained in covered sniping to get some training in being able to relocate more quickly while prone than the average bear, since we actually have some incentive to be in that posture.
I know the mechanics of mask scent and camo, KapowBzapp, and I realize that being prone adds benefits to checks against those skills, as does walking rather than running. I think that makes some sense, but I feel that alternative benefits could make more sense with the ranger theme. I wouldn't like the crawl speed taken away from rangers without some compensation, what I am saying is that if it was moved to rifleman, it would come to a subset of the game population that actually appreciates it, and rangers could get something that they would be much happier with in return anyway. There have been a whole lot of interesting, workable, and good outdoorsy-themed ideas proposed for additions to the ranger profession, so I won't mention anything specific to replace it with.
Take your example of crawling to keep camo from breaking on rancors, or any high end mobs. My thoughts are that only a small percentage of rangers utilize and appreciate this advantage, anyway -- and those that do are probably either riflemen or bioengineers. On the other hand, with cover and snipershot being useful rifle skills now, virtually every rifleman would appreciate and take advantage of fast crawl speed. So, make prone/walking have no bearing on camo, give camo a boost in strength, add "interesting ability x" to the wayfaring tree in ranger, and move the crawl speed to riflemen (and have it be entirely separate from terrain negotiation).
As a former long-time ranger, and a current even-longer-time rifleman, I think this would be a good adjustment to the viability of both professions, rather than a boost to one that is already riding high and a hit to one that already has problems. The problem, and the thing that makes this discussion entirely academic, is the fact that this exchange would require the devs to develop "interesting ability x" for rangers. And lets face it, there have been some fantastic ideas around for nearly 2 years, but the most recent thing I can recall being added to ranger was tracking, *way* back in the day. So, I'm not holding my breath for anything. If a "ranger revamp" does swing around though, I'll be happy to get the chance to consider returning to the profession.
