The least you should do is find a fast scout blaster (under 2 seconds speed) and get warning shot.

If you have the points to spare I've heard going up the 2 handed swordsman tree is very helpfull.

I have warning shot but I have no pistol skills. So sward is better than unarmed?

2 Handed Swordsmen get mind damage in their 2nd? box. You need a lot of TKA to get the mind hit.

You don't need any pistol skills, just use the scout blaster to warning shot stuff away, the idea is it's easier to heal a 200 damage hit while holdinga pistol than a 500 damage hit while using a rifle.

I suggest you thoroughly read all the rifleman posts on what is wrong with our class and then consider if you still want to be a rifleman.

Sorry, I'll post a few to save you a little time:

we take 2.5x damage from all melee attacks, including Lightning Canons and Commando Weapons, which aren't melee weapons at all. Go figure. Expect to get incapped a lot, many times in one hit.

Our accuracy is awful compared to other ranged classes.

We're supposed to be most useful in the 'prone' position. Prone is buggy, not to mention useless in PvP. Anything can close 64m distance on a prone target in only a few seconds. Combine this with the time it takes to stand up, and the combat jitter-stepping and you have one dead rifleman. In PvE you teleport while prone, most times out of combat range, yet many time combat is still initiated.

Mobs currently teleport on top of you, usually 1-hit incapping you.

Massive HAM costs. Our rifles do nearly 80-100 mind damage to us to execute our "class-defining" mind hits. We can barely kill anything with mind damage before we kill ourselves with mind damage. And in most cases this is with max mind stats. So as a rifleman prepare to sacrifice a lot of migration points.

Inability to target any other pool *but* mind.

Lack of resources to make T21 rifles on most servers. Check your server for availability first. Ask your local master weaponsmith.

Few defensive bonuses, no knockdown, no effective defensive specials. Dizzy and Supression Fire have reduced effectiveness now.

Low DPS compared to other classes, meaning in a group you will get the least experience, if not significantly lower that everyone else.

Useless concealment line tree. None of the attacks work correctly.

Surprise shot... does... nothing?

Our ability to do ranged mind damage is dwarfed by the Bounty Hunter's ability to do ranged mind damage.

Well that's a good start there. Read further posts for more information and details on specific topics. I will say that currently, Master Rifleman are awesome, but becoming a Master Rifleman doesn't really solve many of these problems except for maybe the DPS one.

If you stay with it, you have to pick and choose your enemies very carefully, unlike some classes, in which leveling consists of going out and killing everything. Solo'ing as a rifleman isn't hard once you learn certain methods, how the enemies move and react (and teleport sometimes) and you get used to the fact that, yes, you will die alot.

Fotft,

Run! Run while you can!

We're all stuck here because we've invested a huge amount of time in levelling as Riflemen and are playing in hopes that they will actually fix the problems with our class. The new "proposed changes" are actually indicating that our class is going to get much worse.

My advice is to get the heck out of hear as you have little time invested. Many of us are leaving for "better" professions and if things continue the way they are you'll find just about all of us entering new occupations or quitting the game out of frustration.

fotf....

IF THESE CHANGES DO INDEED GO INTO EFFECT then ArianSix is correct.

I am almost 3/3/2/3 in Rifleman. I have far too much invested to throw it away. However, if these changes go through, I will leave my character as is and begin all over on another server in a different profession.

You want to pick up one of these three classes pistoleer, swordsman or TKA.

Pistoleer give you the ablity to kite and prevents a weak middle zone between long and short range.

Swordsman allows you to keep the same damage type the mind pool on specials.

TKA that Masters the combat xpline gets a head hit attack(will get it for a LONG TIME) and has the most toughness and def bonuses of all the melee.

Don't pick Pikeman it attacks the wrong pool (action)

Fencer just doesn't pair well with rifleman no really synergy.

Just become a CH rifleman, It's Evil but the "Quick and Easy path" feels so good. "Give into your hatered." Rifleman together with CH skills you might be able to beat a pistoleer.

hmm wow ok now I am really thinking about droping rifleman. I already am a CH so that helps me. But if I drop rifleman I do not know what else I will go into. All I wanted to do in this game is be a rifleman.

If you wanted to be a rifleman be one, Rifleman is a profession for those that want to use tactics. Any fool can run in guns blazing. This profession is about getting the drop on the other opponets or defending a spot. Rifleman are not good at urban pvp without a close combat to balance it out. But in the open or in a well selected spot you can be ruthless. It is also good to work in agroup with meatshields as a rifleman. We kinda are the "mages" of this game.
