My newest character is going to be a rifleman/ranger. However, Im having trouble getting Trapping xp because You hjave to get close to the enemies (which is not smart for snipers.) Anyone know of an effective way to get trapping xp as a rifleman?

just get m rifleman first, then get every trap there is.. toss one of each on a creature, then kill it

OR make a bajillion adhesive meshes and just start throwing em at anythign you find. Much quicker- by the time the creature has escaped you should be out of range to kill it. In the meantime, hotkey stacks of traps and then just press every key once as you fight.

You know, everyone talks about those adhesive mesh traps being all that, but as a master rifle/ranger, ive never once found a reason to use the mesh traps. They slow down a charging rancor for about half a second, which isn't even long enough to fully utter a four letter word before the beast runs you down. You want to go with phecnacine darts. Allow me to say that again, it even sounds cool: phecnacine darts. These babies will render your target all but immobile for about 15 seconds. The reaction I get from hunting partners everytime someone sees me stop an ancient bull rancor dead in its tracks and kill it before the effects wear off, you would think I just walked on water. In the time it takes any creature to shrug off the effects of a phecnacine dart, you can hit it with just about every other kind of trap in your arsenal, and the payoff is huge. You can get 10-16k worth of trap xp off of one stupid rancor, before you ever fire a shot.

If you have another ranger with you to teach you as you level up, you can grind out the entire trapping line ofeither scout and ranger in a matter of minutes.

This is more of a ranger question, not a rifle question, but I felt compelled to put in my two cents, anyway.

Good luck camping. That grind more than offsets the ease of the trapping line.

I did both at the same time. I would load up on phens and adhesive meshes. Toss a phen, slam out a couple of specials, toss the mesh, more shooting while phen wears off, toss another phen, rinse and repeat until you drop it. Since you get messages telling you when the traps wear off, you can use this method to keep them sitting where they are at. If you just use one or the other they will gain anywhere form 20-60ms on you.

Glow-Wire, Glow Juice and, the Mesh traps can be thrown over and over and you get XP. Buy a factory and run crates of them. They are all useless to a Master Rifleman so don't over do it. I use Noise Makers and P-darts all the time.

Once you Master Rifles You'll fly through Ranger. If you need the camping stuff save up lots of hide and bone so you can use a craft macro to get through it if you get stuck.

You can find the macro on the Artisan forum. If you Weapon Droid and general tools it much easier to find the schem number.

I recently learned from a fellow (forum) Ranger than traps can be used to single pull targets. Simply throw ap-dart and hit peace twice. This will only aggro the creature you tossed the trap at. The p-dart will slow your target allowing you time to retreat and finish it off with your rifle.

Spend some credits and get a traping droid. order it to fire a trap then shoot then trap then shoot. Or just toss and fire yourself... not that hard either way. I did the 2 professions at that same time.

Yep and a droid can fire those traps at 64m too.

thats how i ground BH, rifleman and carbineerway back in the day on rav. turtons. Use a trap to draw one away from thelair let it run 30m out following you then hit it with another trap and kill it. If it takes longer than one trap no big deal, when onestops toss another.

Doing that you are getting very good rifle and ranger traping and harvest xp at the same time.

Rancors might also work if you have enough skill to make your traps work. I didnt at the time and they take alot longer to kill for the same weapons xp.

I picked up novice rifleman the same day I got novice ranger. I managed to master ranger months ago but I still haven't mastered rifleman yet. I found trapping xp quite easy to get for ranger. Like Maavek said, pdarts are the key. Get used to the time taken for them they wear off so you've got another ready to throw in your combat queue. I know they don't always work and that used to annoy the heck out of me but if you're throwing every trap you can make with each kill the trapping line should be one of the first you complete and then you can just forget about them. After that (if you want to master) it's time to take a deep breath before taking on the camping line

you can throw the traps at 50m so its not that close. And, I've had the mesh stick fine, just try to find a combo that works for you. Try getting a rancor to aggro a malloc or something and throw all the traps you want! only thing about mesh v. pdarts is only make 2 mesh v. 5 pdarts.
