Thread: Me and the Gorax---or How i lost my Mind

This is in no way a rant or general complaining. I just wanted some help and the benefit of more experienced rifleman than i.

My friend and I decided to try our luck on dathomir hunting for a gorax. I just mastered rifles friday and was wanting to try my new self out.

Well, after looking around for a couple of hours we finally did stumble across one. My buddy, being a swordsman/doc, buffed us both on the spot. We both consumed a bellyfull of brandy and canape. We were outfitted in our very best composite armour, and we were both weilding our favorite weapons.. I chose my DXR6-b disruptor rifle and he had an acklay power hammer.

With the stage set, my pal went up to the gorax and started tanking it. Then things started going very wrong.

I got /kneeled down at my optimum range, and started firing the rifle . The gorax IMMEDIATELY headed for me, normally this would not present a real big problem because i am a TKM also. only thing is, my mind was nearly gone!

My first shot was a headshot, to get a bleed started, but after that i was just firing at will, not really doing any specials. Well, i fired until he got so close i wasn't being effective, then i switched to VK,s. By this time, my mind pool ("buffed" on brandy and canape) was nearly gone. In short, I was dead in just a few seconds.

We repeated this scenario three times, with my buddy fighting the whole time. I would clone, buff, fly the 5000m + to where my buddy and the gorax were tangling, start shooting at him (the gorax), he would stop fighting my tank buddy and come after me, my mind pool would all but disappear, i would die.

My friend eventually killed the beast (with almost no help from me),

So I'm wondering, what was I doing wrong? Do MR specials cost a HUGE amount of mind points to use?, also, I really didn't have time to do much of anything because the gorax aggroed me so quick, any theories on that?

My chief concern though is the mind pool drain, if it cost me that much mind JUST TO FIRE my rifle, then i won't be a rifleman very long. And up til now, i've really enjoyed being one. Any thoughts or suggestions?

check the HAM costs on your rifle. seems the majority of weaponsmiths on my server don't understand this...

not all DXR-6B's are created equal.... having great damage and speed when you can only fire a couple times before you've all but incapped yourself is useless.

and also - unsliced comp helmets also add a huge drain. don't use one if you don't have to. seems a lot of new riflemen don't understand this either.

well, most do know it I think, but they dont know of ahrisa...

its alot better to pop 3 ahrisa then some canape.. the ahrisa lasts for 45 mins (compared to 10), and with 3 (compared with brandy), you have 0 mind cost (once your focus gets over 1500, there is no cost.). Most people get off with 2 btw..

about the comp, if its 80kinetic (layered), just get the helmet (and preferb all the pieces, but this will be expensive) encumb sliced. if you get a wrong slice, buy a new one.

Keevjaseri,

You mentioned you used Mind Shot on him, well thats probably what caused him to come at you straight away. I have never hunted Goraxs and i don't know if they are similar to Krayt dragons but if I remember correctly Krayts attack indiscrimiately. They don't necessarily focus on the tanks all the time for some strange reason. Like it was said by blackdrgn33 it could be the ham costs of your rifle. But if you used brandy and canape you should really of had a problem. It could have just been a bug on you end, did you buddy have any problems with his him costs during the fight.

Tell your Swordsman/Doc friend to use /taunt. It'll pull that Gorax right back on him. Even with +0 taunt, I get it to work in about 1-2 tries. No more than 3 the vast majority of the time. Helps to keep my friends alive really well whenever one gets into trouble.

If you just drank 2 brandies there is no way you should be running out of mind...

yes there is...

if you wear very heave comp... my pvp comp (all eff sliced, 40 stun) is about 800 on my focus/willpower.
since my native stats are 1100/1100/800 on my mind, this puts me down to 1100/300/0. add in 2 brandies:
1940/1140/840. this does NOT put me at the 1500 mark, so ham costs are still very high (about 70-80 for a hs with my t21). but if I pop one (prefeb 2) ahrisa, I got 1940/1960/840.

spamming hs3 or SS2 with ANY mind costs will always finish you very fast..

Try this too.

Go prone and take cover under mask scent. If you're buddy's a good tanker with self healing ability, you might as well go the full sniper route and stay out of sight and out from under the Gorax's foot.

Not everyone is a human. I'm zabrak and with my MIND stats maxed out I have 900Mind 500Focus and 1k willpower. I have to supplement the brandy with either 2 shots of non enhancedahrissaor 1 shot of the BE enhanced stuff (+440 focus). Without it I do more harm to my own mind wearing my heavy stun/kinetic helmet in PvP fights. Thank god zabrak get the equalize ability.

I always use entertainer buffs. I don't even mess with arisa. I have good access to an entertainer though. 2 brandies + entertainer and usually im set. That way I have canape for emergencies and muon for dire emergencies.
