Thread: Why all the New Weapons?

Well... besides the functionality.
Why more weapons?
One answer.
Variety.
I for one am tired of seeing every single Rifleman out there, running around with the exact same looking T21.
I went and hired a Weaponssmith to custom build me a Laser Rifle with hand crafted components just so they would be fully visible and the weapon would not look like every other Laser Rifle out there.... it would look like my Laser Rifle.
I may soon be able to acquire the T21 though but I am not sure I want one, I would look like everyone else, and I want my character to be unique.

iunderstand you dont' want to look like a rifleman clone, i don't either, but I really really want to be told that all these new weapons will be more than visual fluff.............

They are more the visual fluff. Speed of different weapons will now be a factor as will the elemental effects. Certifications are moving around as well.

i am looking forward to not having to equip my bowcaster between battles to stand out from other riflmen. It would be a dream tho if I could equip my bowcaster during battles and still do some dmg. I have heard things about a bowcaster that will be seen in epIII being pretty bad ass in this game, if anyone knows anyhting about this plz share it.

Hmmm... well with the new rifles we'll probably get one for each elemental damage type and/or various levels of it. In the new armour system, targets with high cold resists will have low heat resists, so when you encounter someone with an outfit like that, you pop your kinetic/heat damage rifle (Or whatever the combination will be - amybe energy/heat). If you encounter someone with electricity resists you pop out your kinetic/acid rifle and vice versa. I bet the "regular" rifles like DLT20a, lasers, T21 etc. will be kinetic/energy damage and thus "generic" damage rifles, while the new CU rifles will deal with the issues I mentioned above.

I was thrilled at the original prospect of getting new rifles........but now, not so much....
Why you ask???
Well, currently, most rifles are energy, but they were still different and unique in that there was APvsAR....
Then they say AP would go away with introduction of FireModes.....ooOOooo cool! so after curb when facing an opponent, you find yourself not doing enough damage, you switch up fire modes until you find the right one and BLAMO! dead target. i was pretty excited about it....so even with few damage types, weapons would still have be unique becuase they would have different firemodes and even all firemodes.....
BUT now, none of the above......... fewer damage types, no additional firemodes/damage modifiers, and more weapons. so we will have just more of the same......? i'd like to know how they will make weapons different besides simply capping the max power for each one......
How are they going to make all these new weapons actually have a purpose? there will no longer be a difference between a LaserRifle and T21 other than max damage and speed...is that enough for most of you?
basically i just want more info on this, and complaining seems to be the best way to get it!

Well, from what I can gather, certain weapontypes may do certain extra damage types, which could go into the debuffing aspect of the A and H bars. Dunno for sure though, of course.

To be honest, I don't see any reason to be "concerned" over the new weapons...I think they're an excellent idea. The way armor is going to work is this...no more 90% effectiveness to every single damage type. For example, if you have armor that is great against elecrticity, it may be very vulnerable to acid. By this way of thinking, new guns are not only a good idea, they are a necessary one. I firmly believe that most of them will have some type of purpose, as that was a major part of the CURB from the beginning...to make more weapons have an actual use. While weapons are going to do Kinetic or Energy damage, they will have (or lack) an elemental modifier, meaning that "clone" weapons should be a thing of the past.

all possible combos:
Kinetic| Energy
_________+_____________
Kinetic | Energy
K Cold | E Cold
K Heat | E Heat
K Acid | E Acid
K Electric |E Electric
so the max # of uniquely damaging rifles is 10
but with speed being a factor you could potentially double this number
1 fast light damage 1 slow heavy damage
20+ then
Plus rifles could be in other professions which would be
better or worse then our equivalent (meaning if it was better we might dabble to get it)

I really can't wait, cause finally I will be able to use my E11, my Berseck, my SG82 !!! etc.. not only for cosmetic purposes 
My only question is : what about stun weapons ? is the stun kind of damage deleted? what about that cool sound it made? I hope there is a new elemental damage, the proton thingy that was shown on some new rifles, that is the opposite of the stun element and that both exist in the game.

stun no longer exists - probably stun weapons will have the electrical elemental type or some such.

I'm reasonably certain that proton weapons are examples of the kinetic damage type. In general terms, kinetic = physical projectile (proton, bowcaster, acid, ink, etc.), while energy = beam or other energy transfer (laser, probably fire...).I would guess that the Jawa Ion rifle would count as energy/eletrical, whereas a SW equivalent of a Tazer would be considered kinetic/eletrical.
(***EDIT: with all the armour/damage type changes, it feels a little like it's going to be Rock/Paper/Scissors... you think that that Pirate you see is wearing armour with low kinetic resists, so you pull out your proton rifle and hope for the best... ***)
