Thread: Rifleman/Sniper right? Wrong.
So who thinks that the SWG Sniper class is a true sniper profession? Anyone that said yes is wrong, and I have proof.
A) Sniper's attacks should be HAM specific. The pistoleer shot's are closer to real life rifle shots. Eyeshot? When I'm shooting my .45 at atarget Im not aiming for his eye, it's "head, body, legs". When I'm sitting behind a nice .50 Barret using a 200x precision scope, covered in grass and a ghuille suit? (think about it for a second now)....Im aiming for pupil, heart, or kneecap. Period.
B) Rifleman have NO melee defense. When I'm in the field as a Sniper, and my position is comprimised, I'm gonna stand up and wack the son of a gun in the nose with the butt of my rifle. Novice rifleman should get a RifleButt attack. No specific damage, just a 2 or 3 second stun to give time to burst run out to decent rifle range.
Sniper is a support position, unless deployed as an assassin. In real combat, a Sniper is going to compliment the rest of his unit, doing damage that matches what the other members are doing and assisting in acheiving the mission objective. Applied to Galaxies, whoever wrote the Sniper and Pistoleer damage tables was either schizophrenic or sniffing too much glue in the closet at work. They're backwards.
I trained with a Spec Forces Sniper and can honestly say that after playing asa Rifleman, aiming is pointless and our attacks are all wrong. As a sniper, I should be able to choose where my shot goes, have better defense as a novice, and if anyone should have the ability to "one shot, one kill", it outta be a Sniper. Deathblowing an already incapped target is nice, but what do soldiers in combat fear the most? That oneround they don't see comin that goes right through their jacket and their heart. (And I might add that the Sniper who firedthatshothad been studying and placing that shot well before the round was fired, and he decided exactly where that round would be placed; i.e.eyeball, breastbone, or kneecap [in the case of an incapacitating shot for a snatch n grab mission.])
Just a few observations.

I have to agree with Smorpheus, we are rifleman class, not sniper class. We do get
to shoot people in the headfor over3k damage with the right set upand that's about
as sniperish as you're going to get in this game I think.
By the waypistoleers don't eye shot, they can only target body.
And a chef class character with a frying pan does better in melee than we do, they don't
take 250 damage a hit from crazed durnai, I really doubt sony is gonna give us some
uber rifle butt melee maneuvers.
completely agree with orginal post. Rifleman got screwed over in combat.
I wuold honestly have to say we are the weakest PVP combat profession, which would be fine I guess if your support moves actually worked, or were needed......
What good is startleshot if I can only shot every 4-5 secs? its a waste when I only get 3 shots off before the battle is over...
If they dont speed us up, slow everyone else down.....

AGREED!
And we have to have a 1 shot kill if we are to be snipers. Even 50/50 chance of hitting a target will do but at least give us a 1 shot kill.
The longer the range the higher the damage and at ideal range we get the 1 shot kill.
A 0/0/0/4 Rifleman can get the Soldier title, what the hell kind of soldier takes
250% more damage than civilians in melee? Obviously you cannot look at
just -one- of our 4 titles and define our entire class by it.
Personally I think you should add all 4 of those titles and say these are the
areas a rifleman should be good at. In fact if only 25% of our skill tree is for
sniping why should that define our class? What you guys want is for us to
start one shotting in PvP then every other combat class in the game can
scream nerf riflemen? Smart. Any class that one shots currently is being
flamed heavily all over these boards.
Math for those of you who are too lazy-
My laser rifle(some of you don't have access to T-21s) with a 30% damage
slice and weapon power up on it would max damage at 655
655 x 1.5 x 5.0(strafe2) x 25%(PvP penalty) = 1228 damage to unarmored player
655 x 1.5 x 5.0 x 25% x 70% x 125% = 1075 damage to someone in 30% comp armor
If my math is wrong someone let me know but it looks like we can one shot, we
just don't do it as a novice rifleman, that's why aldeon suggested hitting flushing2
as soon as possible so you can get a 4x damage special right away. Also keep in
mind that 1228 to unarmored players equals 4912 to unarmored mobs in PvE, that
will be 7663 -AOE- to unarmored mobs in PvE at range 60 after they fix armor
piercing, it's not hard to see why they are being slow to fix our class. They fear our
potential.
Am I saying we're fine? no, we have things that need fixing, I say focus on fixing
those things and drop the sniper complaints.

you tricky guy you..... you knew that was coming.... wanna pick a couple of stocks for me now???
What would be cool, and maybe we should ask for this:
For rifles, make /aim add damage for every time you do it.
So if you have time to /aim, /aim, /aim, /aim, /headshot3, you'll hit for about 10,000 damage.
And I'm not kidding about that number. If other classes can do it, why can't we?
Oo, another cool ability they should add:
At Master-Countersniping, add a new defense called "Preemptive Attack".
It works like a block or a dodge, except instead of blocking or dodging, it gives the sniper a free attack against whoever is shooting him, and actually applies the sniper's damage FIRST, with a bonus.
Thus, counter-sniping.
---"We're not Snipers we're bloody infantry with unscoped rifles. If we were snipers we'd have a gun with 128M range. This is Star Wars not Spec Ops. Seriously, have you tried Rainbow 6?"---
Not a Sniper??? Hmmm, that's odd, the title I acheived with the completion of Master Sniping Accuracy just happens to be "Sniper". Interesting that we're not to be considered Snipers then. And yes, I played R6 from demo, all the way through to GRIsland Thunder, every day for5 years, and I was aspotter the entire time, scoping for my partner who happens to be a RL Sniper.
---"Star Wars not Spec Ops"---
....Did you even see Episode II? Zam Wassel sure used a scoped rifle (in a Star Wars film I might add, not justsome book that only 30 people have read) to knock out the droid that Obi Wan was hitching a ride on. Take close look at Boba Fett's rifle (yes, that is a rifle), that little metal tube on top? That's a scope. Take another look at the Rebel Commandos that Han commands during the Endorian Shield Generator mission, see those rifles?Glass onevery one. So don't tell me that scoped rifles rifles don't exist in the Star Wars universe. I've been a fan all of my miserable life, ever since that fateful day in 1977. And I'm not your average fan, I'm an obsessivefanatic about it. I've read every expanded universe novel all the way to Vector Prime, which I still refuse to read (due to my life long fandom of Chewbacca, and don't even get me started on that whole issue). I had an all synthetic yak fur wookiee costume from age 5 until it fell apart, which I wore every chance I got and had my mother re-size three times. I owned every toy ever produced by Kenner, doubles of most, triples of some. I still play Star Wars trivial pursuit, and when I have 20 bucks next week, I'm going to buy Star Wars monopoly for the 3rd time.
Ifthey're going to give us a title that says Sniper, we should be Snipers, period! Otherwise don't call us Snipers, because we are NOT Snipers at this point. Like the man said, "we're bloody rifleman with unscoped rifles!!!!" Out of all the Snipers I know, there isnt a ONE of them that would go out into the field withOUToptics on their rifles, otherwise, once again, they would be RIFLEMEN if they did so. Which would make all of the brutal training they did to become Snipers a big fat waste of time, and let me tell you, true Snipers do not waste a second of time, that is why they are chosen to be Snipers.
--"What you guys want is for us to start one shotting in PvP then every other combat class in the game can scream nerf riflemen? Smart."--
I'm not asking for a one shot one kill every time I fire my rifle. I'm asking forthe *chance* to kill with one shot. As has been stated, the title given us at the top of the accuracy tree is "Sniper", and a true Master Sniper in RL kills 100% of histargets with one round, the first round. Anything less and he would perish. That is fact and can not be argued. I realize that for gaming balance Snipers in SWG should not be able to kill with oneround every shot, however, the chance should be there, period. And if the Sniper is a Master at accuracy, it should be a fairly often success.
"Math for those of you who are too lazy"
The math in this game is soindividual basedthat you can't judge anything that way. The math your doing happens to be for YOU, not me, and I'm not interested in your math. I'm using a differentcharacter racewith a completely different weapon, different profession trees, skill mods, stat migrations, and abilities,so your equation means nothing in comparison with mine or the next guys. Leave the math out of this, because its not what Imbi*%#en about.
I'm not asking to make the Rifleman class uber powerful or unbalanced, I'm asking for an accurate depiction of the profession. If a rifleman isn't intended to be a Sniper, then make an actual Sniper specific profession. But don't tease me with all of these trees named Sniping and Counter-Sniping if Im not intended to be a true Sniper.
It's blasphemy, plain and simple.
