Thread: How are Rangers making money most?
Some of the things I have thought about are:
1. Taking novice artisans out for a surveying mission. Most of the artisans just want resources and a safe place to survey. I will try to take 4-5 out and build a safe camp (gaining exp in camping) and protect them using the various skills we have.
2. Selling foraged food to chefs. This is pretty weak. How much can you really expect to sell food for, anyway?
3. Selling hides, bones and meat. Many people are now scout capable (if anything, just to move faster) so this is a minimal living at best.
It seems like most professions that are not focused on combat have a way to make a ton of money, and combat specific groups (which i'm sure people could argue we are in and out of combat specific skill, depending on your secondary skill) can make money through missions.
I am Ranger, Artisan, Pistoleer and make a lot of money by selling resources of all kinds. Bones, hides and meat, foraged food, resources like minerals, chemicals and flora, etc.
Just curious.
For me, I make most of my money harvesting various minerals. I plan to start setting up harvestors in remote areas of Lok, Endor and other dangerous places. With Wayfairing, you can travel faster and safer then others. I would not say with out risk, but less risk then the crafter with minimal scouting skills.

Some of the ideas I had during beta that I thought about using (but not really applicable since I play on Test Server with low population):
- Mineral extractor - use scouting and survey abilities to extract and sell various resources
- Animal extractor - harvest the best organic resources for medics and chefs
- Tour guide - best as part of a PA; with the cooperation of others setup a Hotel on a remote planet with a door charge and facilities for healing, cooking, etc. Take parties out into the wilds for viewing the sites and some hunting expeditions.
Regarding your comment about putting up harvesters on Endor and such:
I can't speak about Lok and other planets, but I was told (and I read it in the strategy guide as well - though there are incorrect things in there) that all of Endor is a No-Build Zone (with the exception of camps). So, you may not be able to put up any harvesters there.
Just figured I'd let you know.
That having been said, please post back on here if it DOES work, because I'd be very interested in that option as well.
Thanks,

I know for a fact that you can place harvesters on Endor.
I make money by managing harvesters and putting the resources up on the bazaar. However, this can get somewhat time consuming, and you have to keep an eye out for resource redistribution, which can be spendy to keep up with. Using survey skill to sample in demand resources (like carbonate) while you are getting camp xp is also a good method. A few personal harvesters is all you really need to maintain a steady income, and they are cheaper than the medium or heavy harvesters to operate.
You can also do delivery missions. By shuttling back and forth between two cities, you can generally make a decent living. It's not going to make you fahhhhbulously wealthy, but it does make enough to get weapons, armor, and other sundry supplies.
Selling bone/hide is also an option, especially a little further along. Some of the creatures I'm harvesting are giving up 150+ bone/hide per harvest, which quickly leads to a nice surplus.
Ive heard of architects and artisans pay up to 5 creds per inorganic unit. The most ive sold them for is a pack of 1k herbivore meat for 3k not bad I think. It is said in the official startegy guide about Field Bioscience 4 quote "....He (Ranger) has studied the behavioral patterns and biological nature of hundreds of creatures and his bank account refelcts his succes."
I hope this is not yet another misleading or incorrect statement.........
I bought one medium mineral harvester and made one chemical and flora mill. If you cant make those, you could probably buy them pretty cheap.
Once you have enough material, pick the harvester up move it to another spot for whatever material you want to harvest next. Do this for a while to stockpile basic ingredients (steel, aluminum and copper especially for architects) When you harvest, always try to get the best stats possible and once you harvest a type of resource, stick to it for a while so it only takes up 1 slot in your inventory.
To help with that, I bought a second backpack and named it "for sale". I put all items I want to sell in this so it doesn't crowd my main inventory.
According to the official rulebook on the site (and in the prima guide) we are supposed to make money selling "food"... although I have yet to figure out if this is "rare" food or what...because there is definitely NOT a market for this (especially with chefs around).
HOWEVER>>>>>
I have noticed an increase in demand for HIGH QUALITY MEATS from Bio-Engineers... as they need this for their level grinding... and it is not something you can set up a harvester for...
other than that... like everyone else said... set up some harvesters and sell resources... and effectively become a Ranger Artisan... like the rest of our sad sorry class.
