The Rangers camp by deffinition speeds up recovery and wards off unwanted Creatures... Its a place of Refuge.... A place to heal and tend to your creatures, summon new ones etc.... it is by all intents and purposes an instrument of Rest and Restoration.... Although some would like it otherwise....

The Squad Leaders Fortification by its very nature is oriented toward combat, long drawn out combat cycles most likely.... a place to fight, hold the line, and take cover from enemy fire.... It is not a place to fix wounds or call pets or heal at... It is by all intents and purposes an instrument of War and Combat....

Give Squad Leaders our Fortifications that we can create on our own... Sand bags and trenches, basic non tech types, and one or two tech types... *basic fortifications should be allowed to be built in town...*

Give Rangers better Restorative camps etc... hospices etc....

And give us the option to combine our abilities and make a Deffense Outpost... Rangers give the heavy duty technology and restoritive bonuses, we give the firepower and deffensive bonus.... And the community as a WHOLE has an awesome fortification to fight from.

Simple as that, give both Rangers and Squad Leaders an amazing deffense outpost that both can place, but need eachother to make... and you have to be MASTER Ranger / Master Squad Leader to place it...

And give rangers new and better restorative camps, and give Squad Leaders their standalone fortifications.

The logic of it is this, Squad Leaders go through their whole line with combat and deffense bonuses.... Rangers go through their whole line with Healing and Restorative bonuses... And when they both reach the top, they get access to something their proffesion didn't have before *through an Deffensive Outpost*

Comments concerns? Anything unclear about what I said, please tell me

Note, this Deffensive outpost can be placed by either a Master Ranger or a Master Squad Leader, but each can only make one half of the kit, which is later combined by either a Ranger or Squad Leader, and then placeable by either or.... IE we must rely on eachother to use it.

"so far it appears we had a few replies from some Ranger Trollers"

I looked at who has posted on the current thread in the SL Forum...

  • Idon't see any regulars from this board beyond Alistaire and SwiftBlue, and they are on your side.

Who exactly are you refering to with that Ranger Troller comment?

If you check Bobpants posts using Advanced Search you will find he has never posted in this forum...

  • So I really don't know where he popped up from.

I like the idea myself. It gives another reason to make Master Ranger, and it adds a little more dependency of Rangers to another profession. Maybe the components could be kept simpler - allow the SL to combine a component of their own making (some defensive item) with a HTFB to create a defensive outpost, which can be placed by either a Master SL or Master Ranger. No high-level party would go adventuring without a SL or Ranger ever again. Maybe the "foxhole" idea from another thread could be a smaller version of this, combining a Basic Camp with a SL-created component, and able to be placed by a SL or Ranger, but limiting the defensive effects to 2 or 3 people in the "foxhole". Just some more ideas. /shrug

I agree. I think it is an excellent idea that doesn't "steal" anything from Rangers at all, as far as I can tell. Good luck with this.

as I posted on the Squad Leaders board, I think this DOES steal something from Rangers, something that a LOT of people have asked about:namely temporary structures that do not de-spawn during combat.

The idea proposed sound exaclty like a camp, temporary structure, crafted from materials found by scouting skills, and placed by a suitably experienced person, that applies small bonuses to people in range of said structure. The only problem is that they want something that is usefull in combat. Sounds a LOT like the posts I have been reading concerning the Rangers' ability to keep camps up during combat. The idea of a Field BASE (Base being the key word, of course) despawning during combat troubles a lot of people. If you set up a base shouldn't that be a place to initate combat from and return to when combat is through. Until Rangers get this, I think any other skill tree asking for it is redic.

Redic=Rediculous. Yeah, I could have just typed rediculous the first time, but redic is shorter and I'ma use it from now on.

I'ma=I'm gonna. You need to check out Strong Bad if you don't know about I'ma. Seriously, check him out.

I think SL needs some boosts, but I'd like to see ideas that didn't poach on the territory that I so pretentiously call my own. hehe until next time kids.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

you seem to think that if we are allowed this idea that it would bar you from ever getting a camp that does not disabdn in combat, or that from having your current camps adjuseted to provent de-spawning

i do not know if this is true, its completly up to the DEVs whether or not they will grant you this.

and remember for those camps that do disband, combining with a fortification would stop disbanding. but if you want non-disbanding non-fortified stand alone camps, your going to have to campane for those within your own comunity. i personaly would love to see uper level ranger camps that do not despawn in combat, however this really has very little to do with this proposal

i seriously dought that if the DEVs give us the fortifications they will say "im sorry Rangers, SL already have nondisbanding stuctures so you cant have them" if they are using that logic then they would not give us fortifications in the first place for the fact that they are temp structures similar to your camps.

i thank you for your input, but i think you are worrying about nothing

Well here is something that needs to be addressed to clear some of the confusion on fortifications.

Are SWG rangers forest rangers or like army rangers or a combo of both. I think for the sake of game balance and fairness, Squad Leaders should be considered army rangers and Rangers like forest rangers.

Master Rangers should be uber against all animals(even against CH pets) and have traps and armours that help them deal better with animals and npc's. Our camps should be places of good healing and have traps/defenses that do great harm to animals and npc's.

Master Rangers should be THE class that defines being a loner and can be a great support class to the rest.

You need anything from a animal ? A animal killed ? protection in the wild ? See a Master Ranger

You need help against the empire/rebels ? you need extra defence bonus and buffs ? You need a place to take cover during a heated pvp battle ? You need a guy that can call in a airstrike ? You need a guy that can summon rebels/stormtroopers to his fortification area to assist you ? See a Master Squad Leader.

"Squad Leaders should be considered army rangers and Rangers like forest rangers."

Yep, some Vision Statement from the developers regarding what they expect our profession to be would go a long way in relieving a lot of this tension...

  • So far, they have be reluctant to reveal anything about how their devious little minds work though.
