Thread: Fortifications Version 2.0
I stand on my previous posts on this subject. Omegus' mentioning of avoiding any negativity is ironic given the initial comments in his summary like:
"They seem to be threatened by anything that even remotely resembles something that they could possibly have as a future addition, even if the idea is really better suited for another profession" among other things.
The "they" he mentions are Rangers. N'Raas' desire to have some clarification as to what the dev's intend for a Ranger to be, will indeed go a long way towards clearing this up. In the interim, if you've viewed the previous posts on this subject, you'll notice the majority of the SL's responding are intent on having a Ranger be nothing more than a hunter. All we should have are hunting tools, and not participate in PvP.
My response to that, as I stated previously, is that the Ranger community should not be stereotyped, or relegated to just being a hunter. Many of us enjoy combat, and do many other things other than hunt. Having a "fortification" of sorts added to the HTFB, would expand the role and identity of a Ranger, adding more depth and involving them in more of the game.
I wish the Squad Leaders the best and look forward to working with them as they are repaired by the devs and grow themselves. I respectfully disagree, however, with this proposal as it is written currently. I would be more agreeable to a situation where the fortification was something that had requirements for both a Ranger and a Squad Leader.

Yep, some Vision Statement from the developers regarding what they expect our profession to be would go a long way in relieving a lot of this tension...

The reason they have not given a difinitive answer is because they are unsure. Why are they usure, because we are unsure.
If we collectivly agree that we are living harvesters, then they will help us with this.
If we say we are survival/wilderness combat experts, then they will help us with that as well.
Personally, I think in the lines of hunting and survival, if they fixed the camps, had /conceal actually do something worth while and added the featurs that they already said they are working on for us, we will do very well.
In the idea of wilderness combat; added defenses, camps that can be left and fought within, and maybe have conceal make us yellow on radar, we would be on the right track.
They dont need to add much to us in order to increase our value. I am a master Rifleman, and if I had a little extra on the ranger side it would be nice.
In ragards to SL having the fortifications as they are asking, don't really care much, but if I had a vote I would say "no". As I posted on there boards there are better ideas more suited to them without challenging us in any way. Some ideas would actually combine us and increase both of our values. Its late, so I'm not posting it all here, go see there thread for more info.
I wish the SL's well in there quest for greater value, it is one we both share. But, they should focus there energy on things of there own, and not borrow or modify things that are ours.
