Thread: Ranger perk or not?

This keeps coming up on the creature handler boards. I keep shooting it down, but I don't know if it's just me.

Is pet calling in a camp a perk for us?

Is this a valid and/or desired use of a camp or is it abuse of a camp?

Give me a shadowed forest into which I might disappear.
Give me a terrible foe and stack the odds against me.
Give me friends and creatures with whom I can share my adventures, my losses and my gains.
Let the gales blow and the world be torn asunder but don't make me stand alone against the tempest.

It will be a complete irrelivance shortly I know that much...

Publish 7 removes the need for a camp to call creatures, driods and vehicles after all. My HTFB will become little more than somewhere to play holo-chess.

(Psst, dont forget to let the Wookie win...)

Ok, the way I read it -

You will be able to call pets/vehicles/droids without a camp, but you have to wait 30 secs or so.

With a camp, they pop immediately.

Dunno why the CHs are whining, they have to be novice scouts don't they?

It is the non-CHs and the DEs that were whining, and everyone else that didn't have scout and stored their vehicles before combat, only to be stuck in east middle no place without a ride and ... gasp... had to walk through reds to get home.

Oh well. I use my camps to heal more than anything.

I think most of us are ok that you won't need a camp to call pets, etc. I personally would be happy if theynot require a camp to circumvent the delay. I will be happy when I don't have to carry around basic camps anymore. I am no longer a novice scout, so I shouldn't be tied to the novice scout camps.

I wished that worked, or at least had the holo-figures showing. Then I would also like the roof to actually keep out the rain

You and me and JB makes three, Fred.

But of course, those are little things to gripe about when sitting at the holochess board in the rain, and are certainly not the issues we want the devs to focus on.

Now, once we've got the Outdoorsman proposal, and everything else works the way it should, a little fine tuning would be in order...

Typical HTFB deployment. The first time folks say "Wow this is like a city!" Then they say "Cool! A holochess table...can you play it?" FInally I get "Why doesn't the roofstop the rain." The people who have seen it before ask "How do you fit all of this in you pack?" Then they start in on the leaky roof....

Heh.

I think I'm only the third MR my PA has had, and one of the previous has left the game, and the other I'm not sure was ever a Master. Never saw him drop a camp, and he didn't use the title. The only people in my PA who have likely ever seen a HTFB were those who knew E'ella back in the day, or have seen mine.. And I'm careful never to drop one when it's raining.

It's an image thing, you know? I get some modicum of respect because I mastered a difficult and rare profession, I often wow people by knowing exactly where they are when I'm nowhere near them, and because I can dropa city without having to be a politician. How much face could I lose if people knew that the roof leaks?

Woah calm down there, speak for youself. I would so put keeping the rain out and having a functional holochess table in my camp above any other change the Devs have in the tube.

NO this is a novice scout perk. That is all that is required to use a camp. That just reaffirmsthe Ranger'sstatus as uberscouts. 110 skill points worth of uselessness, no use in PvP, tracking for PvE, and big expensive camps so nOObs can say "wOw, nice camp."

3 in the same guild? I am the only one my guild has ever had, except for the holo ranger who was a master for 5 seconds (no offense intended). But, I sure am popular for hunts...

I personally find it a total pain in the ass to put up a camp just to call a pet or vehicle and really adds nothign to the role play aspect of things so am glad they have made this change, i just hope now they use some of the many suggestions to make camps more than eye candy.

I think I need to say something about this thread. Firstly I am a Master Ranger at heart, and then I just enjoy looking for the rare creatures as a side hobby. I will occasionly use my pets when I solo social heards, it just makes it easier. But the camps are annoying to say the least. Camps should be for two things in my mind, healing wounds, and healing battle fatiugue. As the camps get bigger, they heal faster. Now before all the entertainers and such go crazy, I am not talking about 5 secs, all healed up, but if I sit in my camp for 1 hour, some battle fatigue should be healed. Period. The whole concept of battle fatigue is to relax your mind, and for a Master Ranger that is to relax in ones own pseudo home, not hunting, not fighting, not fishing, just sitting relaxing. The whole point of me personally being a Ranger is to get away from all those dumb a$$ losers called people. The last thing I want is to have to go find a entertainer and watch them, which is going to irritate me and not relax my mind. That should be the perk of a HTBC in my mind.
