Thread: Once again SOE tells us what we want

Time again I see SOE make the classic big overbloated company mistake by TELLING its customers what they want instead of GIVING them what they want.


I quit Ranger a looooooong time ago because I got tired of SOE asking for our input only to do nothing with it. And finally years after they've asked the community repeatedly, they give us something from left field. Whether you like the new revamp proposal, its NOT what the ranger community asked for.


Remind anyone of the CU ? We submit idea after idea and wammo this huge change comes out that sickens us. All because SOE goes overboard in anything it does.


From what I recall, all rangers wanted was an advantage over scout when it came to harvesting. We wanted traps to actually be effective. We wanted camoflauge to work. We wanted campsites to actually repel mobs and to matter again, like before the pet nerf which required a camp to take out. And we wanted a few cool ideas we suggested a year+ ago.


That was all SOE, we didnt ask to lose our harvesting ability to scout. In fact thats the last thing any ranger wants. How about listening this time ??? Maybe then you wont be so dumbfounded when another round of cancelled accounts puzzles you.

because thats whata ranger does. And I participated in many discussions here back then. Not a single ranger demanded to lose his harvesting ability. We went ranger because we loved to hunt.


With CU, that has become next to impossible as we now must look for the correct level. Mobs dont always respawn three times like before in same location. Most rangers cant get to lvl 80 combat to hunt on dathomor or endor. Mobs dont have unique behaviors with some being extremely aggressive (mereks to name a few) while others seem to avoid you. So since SOE borked what was left of our class anyway maybe SOE should just elminate harvesting organics completely.


From what I recall, most suggestions were like make camo work for whole group (with ranger in it, sorta like squad leader buff). Make traps like harvesters with ability to static farm mobs that wonder too close. Make campsites sorta like small bases with some real firepower to rebel mobs, etc. I dont recall any ranger saying dump all my abilities and make me a spy.

I'm curious to know how long you've been around the Ranger forums. Our community has always been pretty well evenly divided on what we thought a Ranger should be. I'd guess that close to half of us, including our former Correspondent, Owen-Lars, felt that we should be more para-military Rangers than anything. If you read the in concept documents, several of the ideas were taken from us here in the forums.


This revamp is a good thing for us. You can't please everyone. Someone will always see it differently. I for one, am ecstatic.

In some respects I felt very surprised when I was reading the revamp document, because it is extremely similar to a proposal I made myself a month or two ago... Layered concealment, concealable traps, ranger defusing traps, ranger detecting other concealments, all in all it was a very good thing. It would be true to say that I did not expect to lose our wilderness orientation, but I suppose that it does make perfect sense for what they are thinking of for us. Being a ranger will not in any way detract from your ability to hunt organics now, if anything it will be much improved, regardless of where they put the harvesting mods.


I would not expect anyone who hasn't been a ranger in the CU to know what we've known for a while: Rangers aren't needed to do that job (gathering organics) anymore, anyone with master scout or even 0040 scout was able to haul in huge amounts of organics, and there are far more people who dabble in scout than whodabble in ranger, we lost a role and needed a new one.


I dont consider this to be cause for another round of cancelled accounts, far from it, I consider it to be cause for a great deal of resubscriptions. Granted, Ive been an advocate of the paramilitary rangers for a long time now and this fits right in with my thinking, but I honestly dont see how this in any way detracts from anyones ability to play the game as they see fit. You dont have to PVP but its a good option when you are on equal footing with others, you dont have to PvCreature but its there if you want to do so. Being a Ranger will allow anyone to play the game, day to day, as they see fit and that is a good thing.


The bottom line is that fixing the professions that needed help is in the best long term interests of the game.In order to hold the maximum number of people in the game you have to give people reasons to play all professions, not just one. Squad Leaders, Smugglers, Commandos, Rangers, Creature Handlers, have all been in dire need of help for a long long time and now we've seen an addressment for three of those and the more professions we can fix the better this game will become.

You didnt lose anything, it will all be in Scout now. Only a few wanted Ranger to be a 'glorified' Scout, thats all Ranger was. Now its been consolidated effectively and Scout will be as effective vs Creatures as Ranger was beforehand (not saying much but still, I.e. nothings changed) and then Ranger itself will support PVP and NPC PVE gameplay. So if you remained full master scout and master ranger, youd essentially have tools for all of PVE both NPC and Creature. I don't see how this can be seen as a negative. Many people were saying should Ranger be creature or npc focused? Now we got both, assuming you keep Master Scout after the pre-reqs are lightened. A Master Ranger has always been a Master Scout as well, so theres no real differentiation here. You simply got more.

Well if you can't understand how drastic change from creature centric to PVP centric may bother somepeople dedicated to ranger impacts them then you are not cut out to deal with people. All changes have an adjustment whether you like it or not and the people who have been playing ranger have a big adjustment ahead of them...I will drop my ranger for scout when the changes take effect because I don't personally care for the jedi/PVP show off fest in major cities, which is all this game is comming down too.

I have Master Scout, Master Ranger and Master Rifles with a CL of 80 if i can keep all of this with the new revamp i think i would be a very happy Ranger

Let me introduce you to Mr Thunderbolt, professional perma-whiner of Eclipse . Btw, it really helps if you check your facts before starting some generic whine, during the last discussions about a possible future Ranger role those who wanted to see enhancements to the creature specific role (like me ) looked like a minority compared to those more fancying a sort of military ranger as the future Ranger.

I wanted these changes. I asked for a lot of this style of skill in the Outdoorsman 2.0. The ability to go stealthy has been around since the time of N'Rass, and probably even the time of Mineras. Modular traps have been on the wishlist along with ground-based traps. The idea of having a role in the GCW has been pushed a lot too. Fact is that we were abouthalf and half. Innevitably, one side wasn't going to get everything they liked. The good news is that if you dont' respec, a Ranger will still have all their Rangery skills from the scout mastery along with all the new skills.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

That bit in red was what we wanted, and we got it! It will all be in scout now, boosting that weak novice profession and allowing you all the creature centric fun you desire.


What we also wanted was to be a STAR WARS ranger as opposed to a fantasy ranger. Finally the devs have recognised that and are making us into the vision of what exists in the star wars universe. If they follow what they post we be closest to our Star Wars canon examples than any other combat profession except pilot. SOE have actually listened to their customers and given them what they want. A Star Wars Ranger in a Star Wars game.

You know, I find it funny to see this thread right next to a thread called "Antarian Rangers". Kinda proves that they gave us what we wanted, no? How many servers have AR guilds? How many people have cited the Antarian Rangers over the years, as examples of what Ranger could be? I know I have. Now, the developers of their game, in explaining their changes, use the ANTARIAN RANGERS as the basis for what a SWG Ranger will be. Sounds like they listened to our boards, and gave us an Antarian Ranger.
