Thread: Other Professions are beginning to hate us, boohoo!

Well, having looked around I have seen Commandos, Smugglers and Jedi annoyed so far.


Jedi, becuase they seem to think if a skill is balanced then it is nerfed and they MUST regrind to the new FOTM uber template, well who cares about them!


Commandos,some think minefields and flash-bangs are commando-esque. Well, quite simply, Commandos are (to use british analogies for once) similar to the marines or paras, i.e. their emphasis is on firepower and overwhelming force. Rangers are filling the role of the SAS (or James Bond, hehe). Covert operatives, infiltration experts, who can utilise their environment to their aid and to hinder the enemy, as well as being fighters.


Smugglers, some of whom think urban stealth and covert infiltration retreival is Smuggler-esque (huh? Han Solo wasnt very covert was he? Nor did he sneak into somewhere to steal topsecret plans!).


Most of the problem stems from people believing that Rangers should be D+D style Rangers.


Perhaps we should add a sticky to the top of the forum explaining exactly what Rangers are in this wonderful galaxy George Lucas has created?

From a Smuggler standpoint, I think that Rangers will become good friends of Smugglers on their Smuggling missions. I also feel that this Ranger revamp says a lot about the direction SWG will be taking in terms of player character interaction as well as the GCW.



Good stuff, if you ask me. The only reason why I'm a little miffed is because of selfishness, really. But it's nothing to stop me from being glad you guys are getting some help. It's deserved.




The NGE may be staying, but is SWG?

It does, cause im one!! Its just a pity i cant do /conceal like in test centre, where you tried to shoot yourself, hehe! Admittedly, the Jedi who play their template cause they LIKE playing it dont seem to mind that much.

I'm looking forward to have some Rangers in my team. I already cooperate with a Smuggler/Commando and it's fun to see him burn things all around... i'll enjoy the new ranger blowing up stuff...

i'm a commando and im not mad. im glad that rangers are getting stelf and mines.


i read the commando forum and they think commando should do everything. they think commando should have thowing blades, mines, and ues every weapion but the lightsabers.

To the op; Who cares? Not me. Any time anyone gets changes for the better the majority of the outside forum community jumps on it and calls it unfair and wrong and calls the ideas as "needed" in their own instead of ours. The problem with that is always: It's easier to give the skills to us, who have no abilities right now, than to revamp every profession begging for a part of our skills when they can just dabble in it and get the skill anyway.

I think Most Commando's are bitter becuase the CU completely broke us.


Honestly this revamp is Very similer to a "light infantry" role that I poster in one of Phenixe's post a while back.


Now if Commando's weapon's actually acted like "heavy weapons" I would be happy.

i was a commando pre-cu and we did not crap gold like most of you think we did. I uesed TKM more then commando.

LOL. I know commandos have NEVER lived up to their Dev-given vision. I hope they DO fix them. Perhaps some heavy anti-vehicular mines for commandos, vastly increase DPS, and add in combat vehicles? I think that would sum it up. I also have a commando idea- not really new, but a new way it could be used. With the new trap code being added, seems they also add another posibility- Emplaced weaponry. AKA the E-Web repeating blaster. A weapon you buy from a weaponsmith, fired with packs made by a master artisan or such. perhaps even droid batteries. Use it, and it appears like a nargalon. Radial it, and add power, like a droid. And you have a limited number of shots to use. As an added bonus, allow a power droid to power it, like recharging a droid. It would add more shots, for the same amount of droid batteries.


A good location would be in the heavy weapon line with the rocket ;launcher. Other weapons could be added, perhaps save the E-web itself for the master box, since it is a very iconic weapon that belongs with the commandos.





No I don't have a freakin sig. Just make something up and pretend it's here man. woman. umm...Whatever.

You said it best. Jedi: Who...the hell....cares. Not I. They run 95% of this game as is. Let them piss and moan until they cry themselves to sleep.


I'm looking forward to the interaction with Smuggler's and BH's as well. THis is going to be a LOT of fun!!

Reminds me of an ARC trooper type toon.


Independent operators. Intel gathering. Locating and prepping ambush sites, etc etc..


granted the C is for Commando


But with the skillpoint reduction you could mix it up nice


Having been Smuggler Ranger Commando and Bounty hunter pre CU. I am excited to see this kind of interaction between classes post CU.And might just have to shift over to Ranger again.

That's why it's so great that you can be a Ranger|Commando or a Ranger|Smuggler after the revamp ( due to the (most likely) new pre reqs )
