Well, having looked around I have seen Commandos, Smugglers and Jedi annoyed so far.
Jedi, becuase they seem to think if a skill is balanced then it is nerfed and they MUST regrind to the new FOTM uber template, well who cares about them!
Commandos, some think minefields and flash-bangs are commando-esque. Well, quite simply, Commandos are (to use british analogies for once) similar to the marines or paras, i.e. their emphasis is on firepower and overwhelming force. Rangers are filling the role of the SAS (or James Bond, hehe). Covert operatives, infiltration experts, who can utilise their environment to their aid and to hinder the enemy, as well as being fighters.
Smugglers, some of whom think urban stealth and covert infiltration retreival is Smuggler-esque (huh? Han Solo wasnt very covert was he? Nor did he sneak into somewhere to steal topsecret plans!).
Most of the problem stems from people believing that Rangers should be D+D style Rangers.
Perhaps we should add a sticky to the top of the forum explaining exactly what Rangers are in this wonderful galaxy George Lucas has created?
You said it best. Jedi: Who...the hell....cares. Not I. They run 95% of this game as is. Let them piss and moan until they cry themselves to sleep.
I'm looking forward to the interaction with Smuggler's and BH's as well. THis is going to be a LOT of fun!!

Isn't it interesting that most of the posts in this thread are so far from smugglers and commandos who are actually at least non-hostile? What IS it about the Ranger forums that attracts reasonable people?
It's the big sign at the entrance "Leave your attitude at the door. This is a non-faction area" Well, that and the SBD that mods the board...
... and what we've been slipping in the punch since, well, forever.

It's as certain as death and taxes. When a profession gets some love, everyone else feels jaded. I can understand why, SOE has a lot of work to do in building and maintaining a balanced game.
I have a hard time spending any length of time on these forums because of all the whiners. Ranger has been waiting for some love for over 2 years now. It's due. They just need to suck it up and wait like the rest of us.
I think the -nicest- thing about this revamp is that it really works well for people from all perspectives about it. I mean, if a Smuggler feels they should steal, they can become a Smuggler/Ranger. If a Commando feels they should have mines and what not, they can become a Commando/Ranger. I mean, Rangers will be getting combat mods, so why not?
It seems like people are forgetting that you can master more than one profession and that the amount of flexibility in the skill system is some of the highest available in an MMOG. No one's being stopped from taking up the Ranger profession, so if you want your character to get some of its perks, go for it!
Actually Commandos and Squad Leaders will be the ones which'll have the most problems when taking in the Ranger. None of the three professions has combat specials, so the people will still be reduced to ranged shot and their weapons... this gives very limited firepower.
More likely there'll be the combination of one of the three (Ranger, Commando, Squad Leader) at Master, another ranged profession (Pistoleer, Rifleman, Carbineer, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler) for the firepower and dabbling into another one of the three.

Next thing you know, you'll be telling me that Rodians have been in my soup!
The good news is... many Bothans died to bring us this information...

Fixed.
and secondly, thats the use of dabbling, there is nothing wrong with a skill based system that encourages dabbling.
lastly, i think that the only ones who are "hating" are the types that only want changes to their profession and dont rely on inter-profession cooperation.
did we hate riflemen when concealing became one of their abilities? no. we just thought that the skill would be better as a ranger skill. did we hate the other professions when camo was changed? no.
in the majority, most are happy for our changes (even if they wanted some of what we're getting) they just wished, like we did a while ago, that what was given to us fits more with what they wanted.
