Jedi, becuase they seem to think if a skill is balanced then it is nerfed and they MUST regrind to the new FOTM uber template, well who cares about them!

Commandos, some think minefields and flash-bangs are commando-esque. Well, quite simply, Commandos are (to use british analogies for once) similar to the marines or paras, i.e. their emphasis is on firepower and overwhelming force. Rangers are filling the role of the SAS (or James Bond, hehe). Covert operatives, infiltration experts, who can utilise their environment to their aid and to hinder the enemy, as well as being fighters.

Smugglers, some of whom think urban stealth and covert infiltration retreival is Smuggler-esque (huh? Han Solo wasnt very covert was he? Nor did he sneak into somewhere to steal topsecret plans!).

Most of the problem stems from people believing that Rangers should be D+D style Rangers.

Perhaps we should add a sticky to the top of the forum explaining exactly what Rangers are in this wonderful galaxy George Lucas has created?

You said it best. Jedi: Who...the hell....cares. Not I. They run 95% of this game as is. Let them piss and moan until they cry themselves to sleep.

I'm looking forward to the interaction with Smuggler's and BH's as well. THis is going to be a LOT of fun!!

There is about a million posts on the Jedi forum now screaming that Force Cloak is being "nerfed" pathetic, I dont think they even read the stuff on invisibility powers, invented by us and tested on them!

Isn't it interesting that most of the posts in this thread are so far from smugglers and commandos who are actually at least non-hostile? What IS it about the Ranger forums that attracts reasonable people?

It's the big sign at the entrance "Leave your attitude at the door. This is a non-faction area" Well, that and the SBD that mods the board...

It's as certain as death and taxes. When a profession gets some love, everyone else feels jaded. I can understand why, SOE has a lot of work to do in building and maintaining a balanced game.

I have a hard time spending any length of time on these forums because of all the whiners. Ranger has been waiting for some love for over 2 years now. It's due. They just need to suck it up and wait like the rest of us.

[ Just adressing the original statement ]

Any changes that happen to any profession is going to create some degree of unrest, for lack of a better term. All we can really do as a comunity is to let them vent and roll with the punches. Smuggler has been promised a re-vamp for years and nothing has changed for them and they ( at least the vical ones )feel like they have been lied to.We Rangers can sympathise with that.

Commando is a whole differant animal. Pre-CU commando ( near as i can tell )had a prittywell constructed combat system. I still remember the Tell's From my Commando friends saying " Hey they took our special attacks, **edit**?" the day the CU went live. As far as I am concerned Commando and Smuggler have needed to be fixed for quite a while andpersonalyI wouldlike to see them get some reallove.

I realy couldn't care less about the problems with Jedi. Ivisit the Jedi communitys boards and allI see is post after post about how this, that, and the other is nerfed or needs to be nerfed, or angry threads about Perls and Crystals being crud-on-a-stick. After all the love they got and the love that they are getting ( Trials of Obi Wan )Ithink theglow stick swingers can stand to just sit back and let the rest of us get thechanges we need to do what we love.

All I can say is, they can hate us all they want.It doesn't matter, eventualy changes will come for them also and they will be too concerned with their own to care about ours.

You'll find that most commandos are happythat rangers are getting some love. Youseem like reasonable people, so please don't take it so personally when our anger is not actually aimed at you.

Our anger is (or should be) directed at the devs, particularly because Blixtevs post about you guys being in the demolitions business has left a lot of us feeling completely pointless. We were led to believe we were the demolitions people, you know, thebig guns, explosives tree, etc...

Combine that with the fact that "Ideally"the 1st thing i (and i'm sure many other commandos would do) would be to combine both profs to bea relatively accuratespec forces class, but it would be entirely pointless because commando (although a5 rated offense class)cannot stand onits own... so what you have is this idealprofession (ranger/commando) that many commandoswant to be also denied us. unless we're happy with ranged shot only.

Again, thats not the fault of the rangers, and the commandos know this... it's down to the fact that commando hasn't been fixed and we're as frustrated as hell.

I, for one, hope the plans work out and you guys don't end up with the equivalent of the smuggler revamp/slicing mini game that the smugglers got shafted with.

I think the -nicest- thing about this revamp is that it really works well for people from all perspectives about it. I mean, if a Smuggler feels they should steal, they can become a Smuggler/Ranger. If a Commando feels they should have mines and what not, they can become a Commando/Ranger. I mean, Rangers will be getting combat mods, so why not?

It seems like people are forgetting that you can master more than one profession and that the amount of flexibility in the skill system is some of the highest available in an MMOG. No one's being stopped from taking up the Ranger profession, so if you want your character to get some of its perks, go for it!

Actually Commandos and Squad Leaders will be the ones which'll have the most problems when taking in the Ranger. None of the three professions has combat specials, so the people will still be reduced to ranged shot and their weapons... this gives very limited firepower.

More likely there'll be the combination of one of the three (Ranger, Commando, Squad Leader) at Master, another ranged profession (Pistoleer, Rifleman, Carbineer, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler) for the firepower and dabbling into another one of the three.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Fixed.

and secondly, thats the use of dabbling, there is nothing wrong with a skill based system that encourages dabbling.

lastly, i think that the only ones who are "hating" are the types that only want changes to their profession and dont rely on inter-profession cooperation.

did we hate riflemen when concealing became one of their abilities? no. we just thought that the skill would be better as a ranger skill. did we hate the other professions when camo was changed? no.

in the majority, most are happy for our changes (even if they wanted some of what we're getting) they just wished, like we did a while ago, that what was given to us fits more with what they wanted.
