Congrats Rangers, you guys deserved love after so long.

As the title says... but why are you getting our (commando) stuff?

Anti-Personnel Devices & Traps

This skill line provides schematics and skill modifiers that allow the Ranger to set traps aimed at NPC humanoids as well as other player characters in a PvP setting. Traps can be placed on the ground and are visible to everyone (unless they are concealed using the Conceal Device skill). Traps have a limited life-span and will be removed from the game at the end of their lifespan. Also, only a limited number of traps may be placed in a given area. Traps may never be placed within city limits.

Concealed devices can be detected and disarmed with the Detect Camouflage and Disarm Device skills from the Pursuit & Countermeasures skill line.

Anti-Personnel devices are either detonated remotely, via timer or proximity trigger. Device bodies and triggers are combined in the inventory (drag & drop) to create a complete trap.

These traps are technologically advanced "smart" traps that can be programmed and shaped to deliver their payload in various ways. Once successfully triggered, a trap will deliver its payload to all attackable targets in the surrounding area. Traps can also be "shaped and targeted" at one specific person, using a Bio Signature Sample (see the Pursuit & Countermeasures line).

All trap bodies and triggers use the Anti-Personnel Traps skill modifier for both assembly and experimentation. Trap bodies have a "Power" experimentation line that determines the power of the trap effect. Triggers have an "Accuracy" experimentation line that determines the reliability of the trigger to detonate the trap.

Schematics:

  • Timer Trigger- detonates a device after a certain amount of time. The Ranger may adjust the length of the fuse.

  • Proximity Trigger- detonates a device once an attackable humanoid comes within range. Proximity triggers can be tuned with a bio-signature to target the trap against a specific individual. The ranger may adjust the trigger distance of the trigger.

  • Remote Detonation Trigger- At the Master Skill Box, this trigger detonates a trap from a distance using a remote control.

  • HX2 Mine Body- Basic explosive mine. Does 100% Kinetic Elemental Fire damage (mitigated by armor & Personal Shield Generators).

  • Kaminoan Dart Trap Assembly - Bio Toxin darts that are delivered as a Poison Health DOT (Damage-Over-Time).

  • Flash-Bang Body- Combat Slow & Stun.
  • Spring Loaded Caltrop Assembly- This is a very effective movement Snare.

    Skill Modifiers:
  • Anti-Personnel Traps- determines the effectiveness of a trap, and how difficult the trap is to disarm once it has been set.

  • Tactical Expertise- Determines the speed at which traps can be armed/set (decreases windup).

  • Cmon fellas... flashbang grenades? remotely detonated explosives? antipersonnel mines? thats commando stuff.

Ive been a master ranger and in my opinion this entire skill branch is fubar for the ranger proffession. IMO it would make a lot more sense to give ranger an improved and enchanced version of TRACK than this.

Well, Rangers in the military sense ARE Commandos. Commando in SWG have very little resemblance with real or other SW canon Commandos. SWG commandos are heavy weapons specialists, it's really quite screwed up.

I always thought commando should have real heavy dutycommando abilitys like "Painting" Targets and calling in air strikes (mmmmmm Carpet Bombing) on themor deploying any were on a planet directly frome space ( Orbital Drop ).

Traps like these have been slated for us since August 03 so nothing really commando about those there likewise with the modular trap idea That was a Ranger genious moment.

It only makes sense that rangers get explosive traps etc and to be honest, if the traps were out and out warheads etc then id agree with you. But these are layed down traps and traps that require you to hide them, sneak away and wait which is perfect for rangers hehe.

End of the day, yeah the high explosive wording link in with commandos but trap wise they are perfectly placed.

Commando was supposed to be the Heavy Hitter, the answer to the AT-ST (before they were nerfed).

I like the idea of a Spec-op warrior for Ranger, kinda like a SEAL team or LRRP Squad. This just falls in line with that thinking. Commando is the daring raid that blows up the Weapons cache type.

Think of us as Assassins, we get your bio-ID and then you die.

erm rangers were not put in this game as military types the word was used inteh woodsman sense .

soe is correct in giving you guys a combat role but that couldve been done without stepping into someone else's shoes.

the other skillbranches from the new ranger are AWESOME. they do fit in the niche of the stealthy spy/scoutinthe field with access to debuff traps and stuff (the stealthy assassin role is RIFLEMAN not Ranger).

Having you guys be the ONLY ones that can TRULY track ANY player/npc they wish would be the best complement to all those skills.

If the TRACK feature was put in the game as 5km max wide scan with the ability to 'narrow' down what you looking for via filters and 'scannings' then ye guys would be the KINGS of rare spawn loot hunters, pvp ambushers (you can camo your entire team) and when paired with any other non-hybrid combat proffession (or BH most likely as skillpoints are shared) you would be one hell of a template.

but... flashbangs and antipersonnel mines/bombs? My inner commando feels very angry

Rangers have had a flashbomb trap for a long time, AoE blind with no damage. Of cause, it could only blind animals

Commandos are bread and butter AoE damage sealers, anti turrent more the anti personnel. Besides, was flash bang grenades not invented for the police use first, and later adopted by the military?

As for comparing to RL military forces... It don’t work. They would all have a mix of difent professions.

Ranger/Carbineer: The point man that has the silenced HK-MP5.
    Ranger/Rifleman: The Sniper.
Commando/Rifleman: The guy with the heavy machine gun.
    Commando/pistoleer: The Demolitions expert.
    SL/Carbineer: The tactically expert.

You would never send in a team with only Ranger/XXXXXX or Comando/XXXX, so comparing to branches of the armed forces are a bit mute.

things change. In the EU, Rangers are exactly the way that they are portrayed here. thus it makes sense for Ranger to get these skills.

well, we always thought rifleman skillls were stepping in our skills. But then they gave us new shoes. The fact is that this role does well for Ranger, and the game can (and should) evolve to give Commando's a greater role (if they implement vehicles with weapons (Which they should) commandos will be the obvious choice for taking down those vehicles, giving them a great role in combat. Let's hope that the bigger picture is there and commandos get what's coming to them, and we end up distinct enough to warrant these things.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

So felt most of us, rangers, when full cloak/invisibility was given to jedi/rifleman, when everyone could put on camo, which previously could only be done by rangers only.

Sorry you feel angry, but we've been on that road already...

don't be rude. He's entitled to his opinion. Ranger were upset when Jedi and Rifleman got stealth and we didn't, we expressed ourselves then. This commando has the right to be upset, but I must say that it fits with what we're going to be, but I hope Commando gets fleshed out a bit. Let's not start telling people who have concerns not to voice them, because they have as much right to their opinion as you do.

Never know, once this is implemented it MIGHT be possible to build a Ranger/Commando. A real heavy hitter with stealth AND battlefield engineering skills.

    It's going to be interesting.

The possibilities are staggering just wish they would leave the armor certs alone.

Recon armor limits us, and the look of it just plain sucks compared to Battle and Assault armor.

Battle armor gives us the most flexibility of all the armor types.

Even without the uber resist levels of recon and assault we just get good all around resist.

We are able to deal with any attack just makes more sense to me.

Oh and Commandos are Heavy Weapons Specialist.

Sneak and Peak that is pure ranger.
