Hmm - well depends on what you are trying to do. I'm master rifle, tracking 4, and working on lvl 40 CH, also leaves me room for novice medic.

Ranger is busted - no real advantages to camping or camo - traps are not so good either. Tracking gives you better harvest, tracking and to hits on creatures. Not bad for the four boxes.

Putting the skill points into CH lets me tank with a mid level BE pet and allows me to clean out a lair pretty quick. I solo most often - partlybecause it is easier with my schedule and I don't want to split harvests.

This combo is as good as it gets for harvesting ranger stuff but a melee skillwould be betterif you are pvp. Never really tried it.

You can make money with this, but I have found that just Scout + Melee is faster and more efficient hunter. You can't get the speed bonus from Master Marksman. You get some stealth for hunting but you cannot compete in PvP as a Ranger, that aspect of the game will be totally dead to you, unless you like dieing. Camo does not drop you from radar. Rifle aloneis not uber enough, dispite what they tell you, to compensate. Only +10 to hit is available for critters, but that is so negligable it's silly to mention. All the traps are AoE from ranger, you will be using scout traps instead, and why would you? RIfle shoots faster, a trap takes 6 seconds and brings friends, even if the stealth succeeds.

No, there really is only RP reasons to take Ranger. if you need more info, there are stickies on the ranger forum board.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

This was my old templet for a while and I loved it. It was the ultimate PvE. You don't really need the camo kits unless you are bringing a friend for some reason. However, ranger takes your terrain negotiation from 50 to 100. 1-50 helps with hills, and 51-100 make you crawl faster. It was cool staying under cover from rifleman and using the "sneak and shoot" skill to move just as if I were walking. I found the tracking ability good to hunt down imperials who run away and to find rare creatures/NPC like Dark Jedi. The camping is cool because you can buy faction perks right from your field base. You also have all kinds of crafing stations in it. The trapping is lame and pointless but that same tree also gives you the "rescue" ability to save your friends ass. It is also just when you and another ranger play ping-pong with creatures by rescueing each other back and forth. The creature knowledge is just kinda fun to know. I found it useful occasionally. It's a great templet for role playing.

I'm moving this direction
Master Ranger (currently 3/3/3/2)
Rifleman (Sniper) (currently 1/0/0/0)
CH (Pack Master) (currently 1/1/1/2)
Novice Medic

ii I love the Ranger / Rifle combo for PvE (which I do most of). Before this Scout Pistoleer, then Bounty Hunter (I do miss that LLC). I like this combo the best.

Good Hunting

I'm glad some people enjoy it.. I did it for about a month and didn't like it. I thought the tracking was neat, but dont remember getting anything at Master that made it worth that horrible camping tree, and I never used the trapping. If you hunt Krayts, it may be useful for finding Dragons. However, I think their spawn area is fairly limited, so it may not help a lot there.

BTW, you can blow through the Trapping tree very fast. Get buffs and armor, go to Dant and findsome "Fierce Picket Protectors" and just stand still and lob... lob... lob...Each trap is worth like 1000 xp if i remember correctly.

I did master rifleman and 4040 ranger and liked that combo. I used maskscent, concealshot, and burstrun to hunt any creature without armor or buffs (just fishak and fried ice cream). It took forever to kill stuff, but if you want to roleplay a hunter it rocks.

It would have been much faster to be a melee profession and get a set of buffs and high kinetic resist armor, since most creatures want to melee you.

I also made lots of credits selling meat and hides.

Best combo for rifleman is doctor for self buff and healing, or a melee profession like fencer or TK to compensate for the low defense. If you want to PvP mostly then go combat medic.

If by Rifleman (sniper) you dont intend to master the proffesion, then dont even try it, rifleman sucks untill you get master becuase of the +20 speed boost.

I am master rifleman/Ranger 0040,Medic1000, I like the template for jedi player hunting and for a Back player in PvP and PvE, With Player Tracking you can find jedi hunting on Dathomir if you know where to look and the Terain Neg, allows you to keep up with them until they hit Guardian. In big raid Defense I play back next to a Doc/Rifleman and he can remove my posions and Diseases while I keep shooting. When the fight is dieing down you can player track to hunt down the Stragglers or the players fleeing from the scene. On Raid Offense you can see what your walking into without sending a covert to tip them off that you are close. PVE it is great for harvesting stuff for guild members like AS and Chef in large amounts. In3buffs you can get 100k of any hide and meat from most high level mobs solo , with a tank you can triple that easy. Rifleman/Ranger is a great support template but you will sacrifice Uberness in PVP and Uber high mob soloing in PVE , great for finding NS elders for the swordsman and finishing battles so the enemy cant run and heal up.

I've been playing Rifleman/Ranger for a while now and I love it. I don't feel the need to be FoTM or

uber in PvP. I like playing PvE for hunting and my alone time and I still have a good support role in PvP.

Hello mate,

I've been ranger/rifleman now for a while and it is a really cool combi it gives you the best of both worlds. Good for hunting and also your no slouch in PvP either

Tracking is really useful in PvP and the HTFB makes an excellent mobile base of operations, remember also faction items can be requisitioned from the HTFB.

Go for it mate youll have a lot of fun

OK guys, you know me I'm sure. Not sure if that's good or bad.

I switched from pistoleer to rifles a while ago, and am now 3214 in rifles. I'm still trying to nail down my tactics as a ranger with the new weapon. As most of us I often run around unbuffed. Sometimes I throw on some low enc ubese, but thats it. I have migrated my stats, taking a lot of the extra points in my stamina and endurance, and action, putting them into mind, focus, and will. Although the high mind helps of course, the occasions I get something on top of me, my low health and action take a beating fast.

My question is basically, what are some "ranger" type tactics for rifleman. I know there are a lot of rilfeman in here, and you have much better at it then me. I try to keep them at bay, but it doesn't always work. I have the specials for giving stun which also is posture up, and suppresion fire, and warningshot. I use traps, mostly P. Dart and sometimes noisemaker.

I'm only a Novice Rifleman (0/1/0/0), but my tactic is to use Conceal Shot and if that fails I run.

When I think that Conceal Shot won't cut it, I send in my self-healing, minimal damage tank droid to draw the aggro, allowing me to snipe unnoticed from a safe distance.
