Thread: Terrain Negotiation vs. Vehicles
"but really is it worth 28 skill points (Exploration I,II,III,IV and Wayfaring I,II,III,IV) to max it out?"
Just to be clear:
- Hill climbing speed maxes out at Master Scout.
The only benefit you are receiving withgreater than+50 Terrain Negotiation is faster crawling speed. ![]()
If that is the only reason a player picked up Exploration, then yes, it is no longer required and that player should probably spend their skill points elsewhere...
- After they get a vehicle of course.

I see them placing huge combat/action restrictions on vehicles, bigger than those placed on mounts, to counter this.

Well at least you can attack while mounted...
- Where as in a vehicle, you can not attack at all.

Indeed NRaas.
Heck, we need that terrain negotiation if we ever want to Attack anything. But hey, if you never do that, vehicles or mounts might be your thing.

Vehicles will definitely be a boon for those defenseless artisans doing their harvester runs. ![]()

yea i think TN is a useless mod now with mounts and it will be further obsolete when vehicles come out... on a side note: does anyone see vehicles totally replacing mounts like I do?
Actually I tried out all 3 vehicles on TC last night, and found something interesting that will keep mounts viable. Mounts are slow (I can outrun them, especially in the hills, and can also /burstrun faster and longer as well...tested a few times earlier this week), but vehicles...get this...don't have any TN. That's right, they slow to a crawl up hills. This may be a bug however...
So, if you're going somewhere with a lot of hills between you and your destination, use your mount (that is if you're not at least Master Scout, then it's useless), and if your going somewhere on the other end of flat terrain, your vehicle is the way to go...
That's no big deal though - I did the same thing on Test and found that if you don't go straight up but go up on a 45 degree angle you pick up most of the speed that you lost. That and if you're in a place like Lok with mostly flat terrain but isolated hills - you're fast enough to go aroundthe hillsand still get to a destination much faster than going as the crow flies.
I think vehicles will replace mounts almost totally. The Devs assumptions on why mounts are good are based in fantasy - no one uses their mount to fight for them past a beginner level, I don't personally care that my mount follows me around whereas a vehicle won't (I usually store it when I get off anyway), and fighting from a mount is a waste of time. If I'm hunting I do it on foot so that I can use specials, if I'm attacked in transit I hit gallop. Mobs don't even appear until after the vehicles pass by - that's how quick they are.
I don't see a reason to keep a mount after vehicles come in (unless it's for an RP reason).
I think Conceal has its advantages when used properly.
I also agree that vehicles will completely replace mounts for transportation. I know I want a bike. Why? Same reason why I have droids instead of pets, it just fits better into my idea of how the Star Wars universe should look and feel. Don't get me wrong, I love grouping with people who have tanks, I just never felt the need to have one myself.
For those fortunate enough to own vehicles on the test server, what are the limitations on how they can be called or stored? Can they be called only in a city or camp? Can they be called indoors? Can they be taken on a shuttle?

Vehicles seem to beset up using the samerules as mounts.![]()
