Thread: How can we bring camps back into the game?

Maybe a slight bonus to fishing when you pop a camp up next to the water line and fish from inside the camp limits. Heck the higher camps have food and chemical crafting stations. Perfect for making beer. And everyone knows fishing is better when you have beer to drink. It makes the ones that got away all the bigger!

I seems to remember doctors complaining about the time to takes to buff a full group with all buffs. So how about camps reducing cool-down timers for buffing as well as the action/mind cost, the bigger the camp the more of a reduction. A HTFB might cut it down to say 1/20. And it could work SL as well.

Or how about camps stopping buff timers. Enter a camp and you buffs will stop counting down, so that when a group leave a camp everyone have the full time.

Or a increase in the stomach content consumption rate. Not a big bonus but something non the less.

One last thing... all group members getting a WP to the camp.

I've been playing as a scout/ranger since Dec '03 and most of the time avoided pvp. Since I avoided pvp I only just recently discovered something that the camp provides that I have never seen mentioned anywhere in the scout or ranger forums.

When I am SF I am able to purchase faction items at the camp status terminal and currently at a lower cost than can be found at any recruiter on any planet. Also, the camp is listed in the map (ctrl-v)under "rebel". This was while using an HTFB, haven't tried any other camps.

How many others were aware of these features?

I've always liked the idea of camping. Unfortunately it seems that it's something that has just become less and less useful since launch. I have a few ideas of my own that I'll get to, but I'm also curious about the current ranger community member's ideas on it. So my question then is:

Do you want camps back in the game (should they just be removed completely)? If you think they should stay, how can they be made useful?

Possibilites I've Pondered:

-Mask scent and Camo applications more effective inside camps

-Camp Buffs-a buff is applied to youas you sit in a camp. Different buffs would become available to you as you increase in camping level. Examples of possible scout level buffs: 30min bonus to creature harvesting, 30min bonus to trapping.Ranger elite buffs: 1hr bonus to different regen stats, 1hr bonus to creature to hit, or general accuracy,1hr bonus to terrain negotiation. (these are just off the top of my head, there's a lot of possibilites here)

-Boost wound healing more.

-Halfhazard cloning. When camps are set up, group members have the ability to store clone data in case of death. Being a powerful ability, these would be at the penalty of a large amount of wounds, and only available to ranger camps. (maybe the better a camp it is, the less wounds you take). This would also require camps to not disband so easy, which I also like the idea of.

-Camoflaged camps. Protect you from all creature agro and takescampers off the radar. This is a little extreme, but it would be cool. Perhaps the camp auto disbands on combat and if something manages to "find" the camp (gets within 10m). I think making campers invisible would be going too far however.

edit: new idea

-Mission terminals in high level camps

Ok, that's all I've thought of. Let me know your ideas.

We don't need that stuff...cause people need our camps to pull out vehicals and pets right? RIGHT?

i for one am still a fan of modular camping. Each of the modules provides a certain buff in the way it's written, so it's sort of similar to your idea.

couple ideas I straight up don't like--

cloning in camps. i see this as a potential for some very bad things, and I really don't see any precedent for it. I think it will be abused by people who want to grief, and in the end will end up causing problems (starting a clone procedure then having the Ranger disband the camp could be VERY bad).

I've always disliked the idea of mission terminals in camp. The idea bugged me as I always like EXPLORING, not getting a waypoint to an enemy, going there, killing, coming back, etc. Though I have to admit the CU messed up planets big time, and I hate the "grey-con masses". I think a better idea would be a terminal that could spawn a lair at your level, without a waypoint, but within tracking range. (I'll admit, I just stole this idea from another thread talking about the /track ability)

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

You guys are genuises at this. Maybe you guys should be devs.

Hey Calc, how much do the devs take into account what is here on the forums when they plan their next publish?

-----
Iconic professions. Ok. Chewbacca was a Scout. How come that didn't stay?

When you think about it, aren't almost all of the original professions iconic? You can find something on each of them in the Expanded Universe.

I miss being a Ranger. It was more than a profession, it was a virtual way of life. It wasn't for everyone. But those who took it up became family.

I/we don't know until the patch notes hit. I do think they use community ideas, but they certainly don't use only, or all of, our ideas.

That's great that this has been gettin some attention from you guys. I apologize if some of my ideas are kinds stale or have been discussed before here, I admit I don't frequent the ranger board that much, as I haven't played my ranger in awhile. But in response to what you guys have been saying:

Phenix- I also like the idea of modular camping, could you maybe post a link to a discussion about it? Or go into a little more detail about how you think it would work? Also, I'm also not especially attached to the cloning or mission terminal ideas. I was kinda throwing that out as a way, rangers could be appreciated in grind groups (which I don't really like anyways but, just tryin to go with what's given). The way I imagined it, is to allow groups to venture further out into the wild, not just 1k from MOor some other city. The ranger could keep a camp up too incase of an accident, so fallen group members could get back into the action.

I hesitated to put that one up though for exactly reasons you mentioned though. If it was implemented, it would have to be done so verrry carefully, to prevent abuse and bad bugs. It may not be realistic to think it could be implemented without problems, I'll think about it more...

Orkboyz- I like the idea of fishand beer, if nothing else that could be one of the buffs given by the camp. I could see bonuses to fishing, milking, and general harvesting as possibilities.

Tarnak-Doc and foodbuffing time bonuses are a great idea I think. I could definitely see a ranger plopping down camp while everyone takes a breather, rebuffs, and lets their stomach settle.

edit-corrected some grammer and highlighted some of the ideas

Hey, great link, thanks.

I'm familiar with the totem concept, I'm roomates with a WOWer I converted to SWG

It's an interesting idea for camps that I think could work, and I suppose fairly similar to what I was saying, at least in effect. I'm going to have to think about some of those though, it's kind of a change from the way I'm used to thinking about camps (I'm still in the recovery and prep frame of mind).

I was a little opposed to the more gcw/battle oriented ranger camps at first, but now I'm not so sure. It's a little less outdoorsy feeling, but this is Star Wars, perhaps the direction that the high-tech ranger should take. I tend to think of these things from an RP perspective. In that respect I could see an army or squad having someone knowledgeable of the outdoors setting up field camps for them. Alright, going to try and collect my thoughts on that post:

-I like the idea of camps being more static, benefitting from them while you're hunting or fighting.

-I'm more partial to the camps that improve hunting and ranger/scout related skills over the more pvp/gcw camps. However, I think a little bit of movement in this direction would be a good thing. Rangers should be able to participate in gcw more than they do now, I think camps are an excellent way to do this.

-Extraction point sounds cool, may be hard for the devs to implement though.

All in all I do really like the ideas you put out there. I would be quite happy if the devs managed to implement evens some of those.

Anyone got any BF or wounds lately, at all in the past few months even? I havent, especially now space is danger-free in that regard so camps are useless for that.

However, how about a buff bonus. i.e.

ranger camp 1 - 1% bonus to buffs applied in camp

ranger camp 2 - 2% bonus

ranger camp 3 - 3% bonus

ranger camp 4 - 4% bonus

master rnager camp - 8% bonus
