Thread: Time to lay it on the table...who has dropped what in the Ranger prof?

I am curious who has dropped how much of their Ranger tables. I know we all know that Ranger is kinda gimped after the CU (and prior to our revamp), but I want to see who has fallen to the dark side. Please post your pre and post CU templates and feel free to state WHY you chose to do what you did.

Pre CU: I was a Master Ranger and working on Pikeman when the CU hit (but I had always had Master Ranger and some Master Combat Profession.

Post CU: I dropped all of my Ranger and Scout skills. I am now a Master Rifleman, Master Smuggler, and I have TKM Meditation. After many respecs, I decided I wanted to be a Master Smuggler again (I liked slicing my own weapons and I LOVED feign death). The faction point 'perks' were nice, as well. I tried Pistoleer with Smuggler, but I didn't really care for the damage output. Pistoleer was a good choice becuase it left a few SPs to put into other profs.

After spending an hour in the Med Center healing 106 wounds, I decided that I needed to be able to heal myself. Since I already had the Unarmed line of Brawler, for Smuggler, I opted for TKA Meditation rather than taking up Doctor or reactivating my alt.

I then asked a good friend (a fellow Ranger, of course) what template he liked for being able to kill stuff, and he told me Carbineer/Rifleman was quite nice. I had played with Carbineer as part of my respec adventures, and didn't terribly care for it (It was nice when combined with BH, but I didn't like it paired with Smuggler). I decided Rifleman would be the best because of the damage output.

Holy crap, I didn't mean for this to be an essay! Well, now you know how my slightly fractured mind works . And don't get me wrong...I still have my Master Swordsman, Master Ranger on TC that I intend to keep playing, to maintian my Rangerly lifestyle.

Lol...I never said WHY!!! I dropped all Ranger and Scout becuase I needed to be able to be self sufficient. I no longer had anyone to hunt for (I never sold my harvests, and I don't want to start now), and I really don't have a constant grouping buddy. Ranger woud not allow me the self sufficiency that I needed. As previously stated, I took TKA Meditation to heal my wounds, and there is always someone in Coronet to heal BF. I took Smuggler for Slicing, to give my armor and weapons that extra edge. FD is awesome for those of us that like to avoid tactics. Rifleman gives me range and killing power I need to kill things quickly and efficiently.

Post CU:

Master Ranger / Master Rifleman

Honestly, the only thing that has changed for me really is the fact that I generally have to stick to missions if I want to earn XP.

*edit* and I have to remember to mask scent all the time on Kash while I await Kash camo....

Pre CU: I was a master swordsman and Master Ranger. I had dropped to ranger 4/0/4/0 in order to have a ranger vendor set up. Just before the CU hit, I got myself an alt for a crafter/merchant and was planning to go back up to master ranger...

Post CU: I have dropped down to scout 4/0/4/0 and am a Master Pistoleer and Master Carbineer. The specials granted by these two combat profs enable you to be quite a force on the battle ground. The rest of my SP are in random BH slots, but I'm finding that I'm not too tied to my scout skills even, so we'll see what happens to those.

I have also not spent a ton of time on the ground since the CU, as RotW also brough JTL to me! I've been spending lots (almost all) of my in-game time up in space. Once I start back into the ground content, I'm sure my template will be adjusted and tweaked.

bottom line: I am one of those who has dropped from Rangerdom - but only in SP allocation, not at heart

My poor Rodian is having an identity crisis. I've respeced him from Master Ranger/MBH or Master Ranger/MCarbines over to MCarbines/MBH about once a day for the last two weeks.

When I drop the Ranger skills I get this feeling like I've just pushed my grandma down the stairs or something. But then I tell myself with two elite combat profs I can kill faster and make up for only having hunting IV from Scout. I just don't know what to do.

I need some pie.

Tip to LEC/SOE: Sci-Fi MMO players don't necessarily belong to the same resource pool as fantasy MMO players.

Where's this idea come from anyhow? It's not like you can hold both weapons at once

Tried out a couple of things, mbh(flavor of the respec) and everything else, but then I just went back to Rifle/Ranger and 4 FS boxes. If I do anything on the ground it's mostly with a group, so while I'm weak as f..k and draw aggro all the time because of the rifles, it's still fun. I know I should drop it (like it's hot) for something more useful, but I just can't part with that Master Ranger title. Wish I could say that the harvest is worth it (140SP for about 1.8x more harvest than the 15SP), or camos work (rode around Dath a lot this week and if it last 1000m that's a miracle) or something is good, but I honestly can't.

  • Master Ranger - Master Rifleman (Eclipse)

  • Master Doctor - Master TK (Eclipse)

  • Master Ranger - Master Rifleman (TC)

  • Rifleman - Scout (TC)

  • Master BH- Master Carbineer(Eclipse)

  • Master Ranger - Master Rifleman (TC)

  • Rifleman - Scout (TC)

As you can tell ive dropped all my live ranger skills and im contemplating just picking up scout 1000 for some TN tonight. Im a big fan of the healing game playing healers in CoH, WoW and will be in Lotr so i decided to go for a more combat healer role now which im enjoying a lot. My BH Carb is very fun to play and enjoy him a lot, perhaps later i may respec to something else but i will have to wait on that.

I still enjoy playing my character on TC as a ranger and i still play my character as a 'scout' but i just have no skills in ranger. To be honest nothing in the ranger and scout trees (except terrain negotiation) interest me in the slightest and justify the skill point investment. As soon as ranger is worth it and doesnt gimp me i will be back in a flash but up until that day im staying as i am on live servers, i just cant afford to be gimped the way i was with ranger in my template.

Basically, i figured that the most fun ive had in the game was when i was a ranger. While ive given up a lot of combat viability, I enjoy playing the game as a ranger.

Draknev is just a ranger, thats how i play it...
However, on other servers i play a variety of other professions, but drak is the one i play the mos

I haven't changed a thing. Pre-CU I was a Master Ranger and Master Rifleman with Novice Medic thrown in for healing. Post-CU I've had to drop the medic and so can't heal my own wounds outside of camp, but with 1,250+ power StimD's available I don't miss it much as far as healing damage in battle.

In PvE (which is all I do) with my rifle specialsand a Pdart (now a useful trap) I'm un-matched as a solo hunter and though prices for resources "seem" to dropping (though I'm still hunting for 50+ cpu customers) my havesting abilities as a Master Ranger mean that I will never be short of cash.

Tracking, which was always avery lucrative business is now starting to spike will all the new NPC's needed to found for quest and lower combat level crafter types wanting to find their mark and move through the quest with a minimum of wandering around. And, as an aside, has anyone else noticed that when you AreaTrack post-CU that you can select Animal, NPC, or Player by double clicking rather that single clicking to select your choice and then having to click OK button (which in and of itself makes the CU a success in by book).

Camps are becoming popular again (though I have always loved then and use HTFB's by the crate) for healing because so may other people had to drop novice medic. It's slow (140 points of healing per hour in a HTFB) but its better than a trip back to the medical center. As a result I find that when I pop camps now I wind up attracting a crowd about twice as often as before. This fact alone has lead to a lot of nice interaction and role playing opportunities and more than once has attracted players that turn out to be either a) new customers, b) a Medico that can clean up those wounds for me right away, or c) both.

Camo seems to have been given a huge boost in both duration (a good half hour per use now) and concealment power and as we hoped is now not breaking in combat. Maskscent does, but Camo will stay applied and continue to work after combat is over (thank you Owen for kicking that one to the CURB).

Drop a box of Ranger? Never. I may be the only one that thinks so, but I think Ranger is better now than pre-CU and with a Ranger Revamp due in the 48 months or soI'm having fun. And besides, how do you respec a lifestyle?

I could go on and on, but there's a blinking light on The Reactor Control and Coolant panel I should go take a look at before it gets any faster.

Good hunting and clear skies

I don't imagine that I'll change Dekiion, ever. On a few other toons I've respeced to different things (biggest change probably Em'sli on Bria, went from a quad master Entertainer to a MBH / MPistol plus some scout) to play with and experiment, but I love playing a Ranger. I don't find things too difficult post-CU as long as you keep you wits about you. I'm routinely soloing missions several levels above my CL80, I harvest like a madman, and I'm in a guild with Ditah so we've gone hunting a couple times and there is NOTHING quite as fun as sitting there with guildies after going thru 6 or so level 78-81 mission lairs and comparing harvests...

"I got over 50k of this avian!"

"I got about 56k... I a veghash junkie, haha!"

"I got 15K. Damn Rangers...." (from the MBH with us).

Yah, I love Ranger. We're gimped as hell in some ways, we desperately need a revamp to make the SP cost worth it... but I'm never leaving. I'm having so much fun just with new content from RoTW, I'm having fun in Space for the first time in a LONG time, I actually solo'd the hunting ground access missions (the space ones) which were totally crushing me to start with. I have no plans on leaving, and am actually in the process of leveling up a new Scout (and future Ranger) leexard on Wanderhome so that I'll be ready for the new GRM and just to try something different. Plus I think I have a Ranger kicking around on TC if I ever remember to log in there too.

Why won't I leave? The lifestyle is what I want to play. I'm not "rich" but I'm certainly not poor, I've got a whole new set of fun things to spend money on (sets of armor!). I'm even less reliant on food buffs than I was pre-CU. I don't need to buff (and rarely did before). I'm spending more for armor now, but less for BE clothes, so that might eventually be a wash. I just love being a Ranger. I've always been one in any game I played where I had that option, and I'll probably be kicked out as they close the door and turn off the lights on the Ranger profession. And being the patient Ranger definitely seems to lend itself to a more casual play style as well. Plus I love knowing that I can just stop, and logout anywhere I want - on any planet, any location. And that when I log back in, I know enough to not be in over my head or instantly attacked and killedby whatever else happens to spawn around me.
