Thread: Time to lay it on the table...who has dropped what in the Ranger prof?

Had already decided, preCU that some of ranger would have to go, decision to strip it back in favour of Rifleman was made when I realised I needed to up my killing power more than keep my harvest rate.


Wanderhome (Little GRM groupy)

PostCU: Novice Ranger/BH 0040/ Rifleman 0400 and getting better.

Just looking to get out on a few hunts now and get him levelled up some.

Toon was 'in limbo' waiting to see what I was going to do with him. The 4x XP week helped.


TestCenter (has had no respec, no XP boost and is currently a few patches BEHIND Live)

Poor sod has been in limbo since my TC installation died. Waiting to see if a patch goes thru SOON or will have to spend a night patching. Oh. The. Joy.



So. While my main, my 'real' Ranger has been mashed beyond all recognition, I've still got a few baby rangers dotted about here and there. That having been said, I'm not hunting, other than to get scout XP for the village and if it wasn't for some daft sentimental attachmnt to rangerdom I'd have all-combat toons.

I'm going to bookmark this and come back. If I start playing again I'm going to need to see what works. I take it Rifleman is no longer powerful enough to hold up Ranger any more?

I respeced because I had three rangers and I was burned out on harvesting.

I wanted to get more involved in the GCW, and finally have a template that was useful in PvP and PvE. That's why I respeced my Kauri template. I'm really having a lot of fun with it. I respeced only once and haven't thought about switching to anything other than this. I love the accuracy mod (298 with rifles equipped!), and when I switch to carbines I have better defense for close range combat.

It's also fun mowing down opponents with two different strafe shots.. The Faction Points flow like a river

My Wanderhome ranger stayed the same.

My TC ranger respeced from master ranger and swords but only to trade some boxes for rifles. I can easily grind back the scout xp boxes, but I wanted to take the opportunity to switch to rifles without grinding up from novice. Eventually he'll be Master Ranger, Master Rifleman.

Pre-CU and Post-CU are remarkably similar. Both have Master Ranger. Both had a smattering of Artisan and Rifleman. Unfortunately, some of the Artisan skill had to go down the drain to get me the extra branch in Marksman to continue to support having Rifleman, so the only Artisan skill left over is the Survey 4 (given how many crafters keep panicking about having to go to dangerous places to harvest, I figure this could work as a secondary means of income). Of course, the downside to that is being locked at CL 69, but I can live with that for now.

Still, I miss my T21 rifles....!

Still a Master Ranger/ Master Rifle. Losing interest in the game over all now though. Alot of it just seems to be dealing with all the negative crap in game... Oh well. I am paid through July, hoping that attitudes improve as does our viability.

I dropped a dollar, so if anyone finds it, tis mine.


Dropped Master Pistoleer and Novice Medic and got MBH and some FS and some marksman boxes in carbine. Have all my Ranger still. But as I have said, when it's time for Jedi, bye bye camping.

Master Ranger \ Master Riflemen Luck 4 dropped force skill to keep Master Riflemen Title.


I can still solo what I hunt, I am just alittle slower at killing my target now.


I throw P-darts alot more now and instead of making them as needed I have a factory running them off for me now.


The rest of th traps I still make by hand as needed.

I always wanted to try ch. I'm having fun looking for babies and stuff. I don't like that you can't bring out more than a combined total over lvl 70 pets. i think it should be 80 personably. But I am rather enjoying it. As for sticking SL in there i get some nice defenses from it.


On a sidenote, my friend respeced to mch mbh with a bit of rifles and managed to take out his first jedi last night. she had no idea what was going on. she was killing critters in a lair when out of nowhere 3 more critters start attacking her. my friend just plucked away with his rifle and gave her a nice friendly db to seal the deal. waht a sight it was. the 4 other jedi that were grinding with her didnt know what was going on either because the pets mingled right in with what they were killing. It was great.

Not at all Fred, in fact I would say it's a stronger combination, relatively speaking, than before. And by this I mean relative to the shifts in the way PvE works post-CU in general. As riflemen we have lost raw damage dealing abilities with the change to Conceal shot and loss of Strafe shot, but the raw damage and range coupled with traps is very powerful. Conceal shot, Sniper shot, Kneecap shot, PDart, Head shot, Startle shot,Head shotis a combination that nothing under about CL 82 can stand up to.


I admit that I can't say Master Rifle is the "best" weapon for a Ranger now as some other combat professions may have dramatically improved, but Master Ranger / Master Rifle is still a "Top Shelf" combination.

I'm only going to mention my main. My characters on other servers were only respeced for difficulty of skill boxes instead of final planned template.

Pre CU:
Master Ranger/Master Squad Leader/Marksman 0104/Master Scout/FS
Post CU:
Master Squad Leader/Master Bounty Hunter/Pistoleer 0004/Marksman 0404/Scout 4004/FS

Reasons:
1. Master Ranger/Master Squad Leader just did not work anymore. Solo, I was getting incapped by level 40 mobs (admittedly, this was still in Beta but I made my decision then). When grouped, I gave almost no benefit.
2. Master Squad Leader takes up a lot less skill points than Master Ranger and adds a lot more to the template.
3. This template leaves me enough free skill points that I can pick up 6 FS trees and get a free alt while keeping the majority of my template. This lets me keep a useful character while getting a Ranger alt on my main server.
4. I get most of the trap effects as skills (or something quite similar at least).
5. Harvesting is easier than pre CU (I don't hunt specifically for resources but I still ended up with over 100k of stuff in a couple of days).
6. This template works quite well in 1v1 and ManyVMany PvP.
7. This template works quite well in 1v1 and ManyVMany PvE.
8. It's fairly safe to go almost anywhere without maskscent or camo without needing buffs or armor.
9. I don't really need to wear armor except on the hardest stuff (i.e. when I expect to be tanking level 80+ elites without a medic).
10. I'd go on but it would just make me feel sadder.

FS: Ranged Speed tree



I had used my whole extra 4sp for carbines 1 and pistols 1 in marksman but they didn't give me anything I didn't already have so I decided to unlock the FS ranged speed tree and I see a noticable improvement with the first +3 mod for the first box. Definately a better investment for those 4 sp.
