Thread: Good idea or intruding on your profession?
I agree that FS line you are asking about only gives a +5 I believe to camping. That should give you the ability to make and generate a normal camp, IMHO, but not the best camp a Master Ranger can make... Its like saying since yuou get a +12 to ranged acc that you should be able to weild a T21?
I say no and I have a DJK and a Master Ranger.

No. Just another thing someone else can use that was supposed to be for us originally. Nothing personal, but we're losing things that are genuinely Ranger.
/agree
Ther's just too much Rangerish stuff given to other professions.
just my 2 credits
There really isn't. The FS lines are supposed to augment your skillset, not be cheap alternatives for people who have to pick 6 branches anyway. That's why you get healing modifiers and not /bactatoss when you go up the FS healing branch.

/agree with the above Rangers. There's not enough SP invested in the camping lines to justify a HTFB, however i think in FS survival there is enough to place a basic camp, which would be okay with me
It's a problem because of the way our skills/mods work but honestly, the FS Survival branch is a joke.
Instead of trying to find a way for non-Scout/Rangers to benefit from FS Survival, we should force the Devs to re-do this pathetic "Look-We-Didn't-Forget-You-This-Time"-attempt by the Devs.
The FS survival line gives you +5 to camping, which is the exact same modifier a novice scout gets to camping. That modifier allows a non-scout, fully-templated Jedi to place a basic camp kit. They cannot craft them, but they can put them on the ground and heal their wounds. That line also give +5 to TN, which is very nice if you're a full template Jedi and have none.
So no, the survival line is NOT useless...it actually gives two very nice bonuses if you want to make a self-sufficient Jedi.
As a combat profession I can dabble around and augment my template with combat mods equal to what you find in profession boxes ie. +5. The other FS mods also have an impact at +5
The Scout and Rangers boxes grant anything from +10 to +40 per box. The measily +5 from the FS branch are out of proportion compared to other FS mods and because of that +5 creature knowledge for instance, does nothing for a Ranger or a Scout, regardless of level.
So yes, +5 camping is usefull for someone with no camping skill since it allows you to use basic camps but that's it and I'm pretty sure it's just an oversight since Pre-CU the healing FS line didn't allow you to heal without the skill ( ie. Novice Medic ).

I'd say no. The reason being the healing rate is so high. Having the ability to place HTFB kits with only1 points invested (camping is given in the first Survival line) would mean that someone without Healer in their template could heal their wounds rather well. That's unbalancing both to the Rangers and the Jedi. I'm getting the survival line, so it would help me so...no.
Also, to give people the ability to use those camps you'd either have to change the way that the camps are given out OR give them a +100 or so to camping, in that one line. The reason is that the camping modifier gives you the different camps. So basically to use the HTFB, you'd have to give them the same camping modifier as someone with Ranger 0300, which isn't fair.
Again, this simply isn't an idea that would go over well.
I would agree. Having a Ranger aiding a Jedi or FS character by putting up the HTFB for them and as part of the group makes much more sense.
