Thread: Throw us a PvP bone
For an elite profession we have virtually nothing that assists in the PvP realm. Does tracking players really assist in that area?
My suggestion: At Master Ranger we have the ability to disappear off of the enemy overhead map and radar. I'm not saying that we go invisible so we become the new uber class. We conceal (master ranger only) and we have like a 1 minute time of staying off others radar and overhead map. We are still selectable and can still be targeted but we don't appear on the radar until targeted.

Disagree, to a point.
Fix camo and take us off the radar / overhead maps, that's fine. Should work like that.
However - move into a town - well there ain't many walking bushes in a city, so you are visible. Unless you are in a park. First time you fire a weapon, you are subject to being spotted - it's called real life and it is play here. Fire a few rounds from the same place, you are detected - no doubt about it.
No running. Bushes do not run. Crawling only. Camo should work with Maskscent too. Animals use smell more than sight.
We would not be Uber, but would be effective in recon and PvP.

"I think that is a cool idea, but as another has said if you open fire you are back on the radar/map."
Yes that was the suggestion that finally made it onto our list...
You can hide completely (hidden from view and untargetable) as long as you don't move or attack someone.
Once you move, you will be unconcealed to all players around you.
Great idea, but there are a lot of Elite and Hybrid profession that were not designed with PVP in mind, and Rangers is one of them.
That is one of the strong points in the game. You are not limited to one profession, and therefore you can choose more then one path. You can be a ranger and still choose mastery in a combatskill such as rifle and carbine, and be good in PVE and PVP.
My raised eyebrow towards the ranger profession though is the high cost of skill points for a non PVP class stemming from having to master two professions. The only other class that has such high cost for non PVP is a doctor, but that profession's skill and ability can be used in PVP, unlike the ours.
Honestly, instead of watering our class down to be a jack of all trades, why not focus and enhance our current abilities, such as traps, camps, tracking, and camo kits. What we have now is a great skill set, it just needs to be finetuned [a lot].

Heh well there not going to give us the ablity to disapear from radar ever if I understand the Devs. I was thinking about what would be a cool master ranger skill. I came up with the Ghillie suit. You know what snipers ware. It has to have a visual effect as well so when you put in on you can see that you look like a bush. -
First only master rangers should be able to make it. -
Second as somebody said crawling or at least a speed reduction of say halfway between walking and running. -
Third make it planet specfice like the camo kits are now. However unlike camo kits its not destroyed and you have to get out of the argo range in order to put it back on. -
4thmake the Camouflage stackable with our natural camo ie the wayfaring skill tree and mask scent. -
5th camo nets to put on our ranger camps just came up that that one. -
I was thinking that just like armor the Ghillie suits should come in 9 diffrent parts. Such as leggings, chest plate, and helm. Each part would have a diffrent + to our camouflage. Then I was thinking what if we could sell them. The Tailor, Doctor or who ever could buy a suit from us and they could sneak past mobs on the way to there harvesters. Because it is stackable we would still have the advanatage in the camo department. -
6th for the PvP part you could put on the suit hide out in a red con mob the mob dont see you and you happen to see some reb, or imps you could bleed shot them. Your red to them on the radar out so is the mop your hiding in. The porlly cant see you as your in a sniper suit so they have to tab to find you. this will take them time. They also might attack the wrong thing and the mob will attack them. Mean while your up the hill still shooting at them while they are getting attack by the mob. So they have to wade past all of them to get you. Hows that for a PvP bone? Im my idea stinks or I have missied something please let me know. Sorsha Havblaster
yes tracking players does work.

Sorry I disagree on this.
Why, because pvp doesn't apply too all Rangers or Master Rangers
PVP for most people is an end game thing, YesI have pvp'ed a little bit but removal from radar/over head mapis just too powerfullfor anyone class to use. It shouldn't even be thought about. I can hear the Screams of NERF NERF NERF.
Rangers are centered around PVE not PVP, no where in any of skill lines does anything offer a suggestion this is even worth throwing a bone to it.
It is a combat support class/crafting support class. What do we do?
Crafting Support Class
Hunt, Skin, Butcher, Trap, Camp, Climb Mountains, get fancy info on creatures so we know what db's and what doesn't.
From those Hide/bone/meat we sell em to crafters/medics anyone and everything that needs em.
Combat Support Class
Point Man, Recon. Other than that there isn't anything we can do that a Novice Scout can't do almost as well or anyone with 1/2 a brain.
Removal from Radar /over head map is just too strong to put into the game period. Even if thecan't move can't fire rules are in effect. A couple of Master Rangers + few Other Rangers could really mess up a group of pvping players in an ambush, but you don't need to be a Ranger or Master Ranger to do that anyways.
Even for recon, dancers, artisan's are some of the best recon men in the game, because ONE even looks at them for being intrested in pvp yet alone combat.
PVP In my eyes is End Game, when your bored of hunting.
I'm not playing SWG to shoot at other paying people I would rather go Hug a Bull Rancor and play tag with a arachane warrior.
my 2 cents
**edit** it i want an edit button for the forums

I think that this would be a great idea. Even the discription of the class says that we are supposed to be able to "move unseen". Let us camo and dissappear from the radar AND people's views. Burstrun or firing a weapon should break it. Walking should be allowed at long distance, crawling at medium distance, and we should have to stay perfectly still at short distances. Give players a chance to break the concealment just like animals try to detect us. Think of the tension and excitement as you hide while another player walks right next to youtrying to find you. Cool!
Rangers should also have a chance of not being spotted by other Rangers that are using /areatrack. We should know how to cover our own tracks!
Would other people cry "Nerf?" I don't think so, really. We spend so many skill points getting Ranger skills that we really can't compare to anyone of the same level that has dedicated themselves to combat skills. We would get a first shot advantage, but that doesn't automatically win us the battle.
I think this would give us more of a role in the GCW as Recon and Ambush specialists. It would definitely make things more interesting for people!
can you nix the "no movement" clause please... if were going to disapear from radar i can see crawling or even walking (similar movement speeds) being alowd.
The no movement causes the skill to be nul. I should have the ability to "sneek" up. Mabe layer it: novice ranger 0 movement, allong the tree getting prone crawl allotment, and walk. Then at master ranger having the ability to move at normal rate.
I like the idea of removing us from the radar and removing our Name/Title as long as it is restricted to,at most, HalfCrawl Speedand No Combat.
Once you open fire, you should become visible immediately.
Instead of becoming invisible, maybe it would disguise our Avatar as a peice of native flora that is still targetable manually (not Tab targetable)?
