Thread: Ranger + ?
Am really liking the Scout line, so am wondering what other people are doing.
Planning on going:
Master Scout
Master Ranger
what are other people doing with the rest of the points?
Was thinking:
Novice Rifleman
Master Rifleman
but how hard is it to get Rifle experience which such a negative modifier in close combat?
Any tips for good hunting with a rifle?
Well decided on this:
Planning on going:
Master Scout
Master Ranger
Master Rifleman
what should I do with the rest of the points? Pistil Specilist?
like whoa.......
I'm going to be a master scout/ranger, master rifleman
"whoa" -KR in every movie he has ever been in :-)
I'll go master ranger, some branches in the pistoleer tree andrest medical abilities.
If I would go rifleman, I think I wouldn't up my medical abilities alot, because rifle and medical drain the same pool.
You know, that you don't need to master everything? ![]()
Problem is that the less useful skills cost more skillpoints than the more usefull ones (some call that balancing).
I mean the following is in the elitetrees skillwise cheaper
-
X - - -
X - - -
X - - -
X - - -
X
than:
-
- - - -
- - - -
- - - -
X
However, it costs more xp.
But for the base classes the second 'picture' is skillwise cheaper.
a decent hybrid is ranger/medic/architect.
you won't be able to max everything, in fact, not even close, but you're A) the undisputed king of resource gathering (instalations 4 + field bioscience 4), and B) you're a great support charecter for a group. Drop a camp, heal up wounds, move on. and you'll never run out of resources to make med packs, because of A).
The only downside is you need combat-oriented friends to kill stuff for you. But, you're a medic. All combat classes love medics, expecially ones that can make goodcamps. And since ranger/archetect is the only way to max out resource harvesting, medic is the quickest way to get a ticket into groups to escort your non-combatent self around. Also, remember there's nothing stopping you from picking up some combat skills as you level though scout and the lower levels of ranger, and dropping them to make room as you go.
and can be fairly profitable too, if you establish yourself as the premire one-stop-shop raw materials supplier for your fellow crafters.
Another good combo is master ranger/master musician. It fits with 2 points left, so you can form a traveling gypsy band to keep the docters and artisans out in the field in good mental health. Again, drop camp, pull out an instument, and haveyourself aparty. This is perhaps a more role-playing based concept than anything else, but it's the closest you can get to the traveling minstral/bard persona with a wealth of lore and knowledge of the wild at his fingertips, so I find it a fun and valid one. ![]()
Ok I may end up a complety useless toon but I am planning on going master ranger/scout/fencer. Which will leave mea grand total of 17 points to do what ever I want.

Ranger/Scout/Fencer wanna be on Eclipse
Master Scout
Master Ranger
Master Creature Handler
Rest into Rifles
I too am doing the Ranger/Rifleman route... kind of like a "big game" hunter. Rifleman have best luck soloing anyway... XP wise that is. Ranger is all about soloing.
It's a good mix, and it's easy to get into the RPing spirit when you are way out there in the boonies all by yourself, and maybe you grabbed Novice Creature Handler, and you have a little buddy with you.
It paints a nice picture... I rather like it.
