Hey all

just after some info on the Carbineer - Ranger combo.

Im going to create another character on Valcyn (its the unoffical Australian server) so i have more hunting in groups time. I play in Bloodfin with my Master Ranger/Rifleman but find that due to time differences i dont get to do group hunts until sat & sund monring for me. Im still going to join my buddies on Bloodfin, but want to create another ranger on Valcyn, so im playing with people in my own time zone!

I was just wondering if anyone is this combo and how they enjoy it? To me it seems the perfect combination! I know the Carbineers are as bugged as Rifleman, that doesnt bother me, ijust want to know if it works well, more than likely i will go this path anyways. The range of traps and the ideal range of Carbineers seems the perfect combo.

Also, I know there is a Valcyn Antarian Rangers - As a Member of the Bloodfin Chapter as well, i will be wnating to join the Antarian Rangers - Valcyn Chapter as well so if any of you guys happen to read this could you please send me a tell to "Took'rak Larrin" ingame so i know where you guys are.

Im creating this character from scratch but with the help of my fellow rangers, i should be able to advance this pretty quickly, that and with what i already know about rangers!!

I'm a ranger/carbineer and I find it a very good combo. The range on the carbine I use allows me to open up with a couple of bleeds and once the creature starts moving toward me I'm in perfect range to throw traps.

I consistantly outdamage a friend of mine who is a rifleman. His rifle may do more damage per hit but I fire much faster. This will probably change when he gets a T-21 rifle but I'm willing to bet I can keep up damage-wise.

The HAM cost can be kept under control. If im fighting creatures then I just throw a phen-dart and stop using specials for a few secs or use a stimpack. If im fighting humanoids then I just get a little distance and use a stimpack. Either way it's gotten to the point where I don't really consider HAM costs to be holding me back, rather its a matter of can I pump out enough DPS to kill it before it kills me.

Carbines, phooey.

Do a test - rifle, carbine, pistol - and you will find that in the long run, pistols win out. Speed, damage overall, variety, space and less negatives for CQB.

Pistols are way out of scale here. I will say that again, pistols are way out of scale here. IRL, no way am I going into combat or go hunting with a pistol, not for big game anyhow (Yp, I know all about the Casull (sp) .454 and the DE .50..we can discuss them later). Here, I got no problems wandering the boonies with 3 pistols : a scout, an FW and a DX, ready, willing and able to drop most anything.

Yeah, a rifle can max out at a gazillion pts of damage with a head shot a 1000000 m away... if you hit, and look at the HAM dmg you take regardless.

Sorry... staying with pistols.

I changed to Carbine not too long ago from pistol, and i am very happy with carbines range and damage. A master weaponsmith was able to make a carbine with 2.2 speed andI had it sliced to 1.8 speed, this gun gives higher damage than pistol and better range. But yes the HAM cost sucks on specials, but that why i have novice medic.

I am a carbineer/ranger, and I find it works well for me. To me it seemed like the best combo, cause you can fire at all ranges. I always start long rangeand by the time they charge me they are usually dead (or I get hit once or twice). If I'm in a trap throwing mood I drop into the 30 - 40 meter range and hit from there (perfect carbine range). Very seldom do I go toe to toe with a animal, because it raised my BF, reduces my armor and sends me back to town quicker then I had planed. Weapon speed can be increase via slice or the speed line in the carbine tree, so rate of fire is not a issue. The only issue is HAM cost of the weapons, there is no easy solution to this problem. Someday the HAM problem should change, so right now I just wait for that day.

I play a Mon Cal ... personally I don't think this is the best combo for a ranger/carbiner. Mind is not used in any skills for ranger or carbineer. Traps and tents are not that complex so the extra bonus for for build is not a huge plus. As for alterness, not sure how that benefit either profession. Fishing on the other hand, now thats funny

by the way,I typically hunt aggressive mobs, because the risk/reward factor

I have a Carbineer/Ranger character that I like a lot. I find the carbine skill very versital. You get pleanty of different ranges and damage types:

Lazer carb: 50M, AR2, Energy
DXR6: 22M, AR1, Acid
EE3: 27M, AR1, Heat
Elite :40M, AR1, Energy (when some good material spawn this will be a great gun)

I find the high AR of the lazer makes it quite a formidable weapon against higher level beasts.
Here are a few tips i reccomend:
1.) Train Novice Medic and buy a crate of 350+ stim b's (these are the best investment i made)
2.) Get a rock beetle, you won't have to wear armor
3.) Use speed sliced carbines untill you get up the speed line in the carbine tree a ways.
4.) Get burstshot1 first, then train the entire speed line. If you go for cripiling the slow speed multiplier and the high HAM costs will kill you. Burst hits HARD with less cost and if you go up the speed line you will be able to dish it out fast. Rangers don't need the super high damage PvP shots, they need to shoot moderately hard and FAST.
4.) I find that FullAutoArea works wonderfully with a pet and aggro packs of critters. you send in the pet, let the critters all aggro on it and then shoot six of them at a time from 50 meters with a lazer carbine. Hopefully you will kill them all before they get your pet, or you will have quite a few angry critters on you quick.
5.) If you don't want to buy a pet either use traps effectively, or buy a suit of 55%+ Kinetic Chitin armor.

Just my thougts...

Hey all just to let you know

The Carbineer/Ranger is well underway, started it last nihgt, and already got all the 1st skills for scout and carb 2 for the carbineer.

And i can tell you this for free. Rifle has to be the hardest profession to learn.

im sorry guys, on Bloodfin my Master Ranger/Rifleman (3/3/3/3) is well advanced.

And now after 3 hours of using my Carbineer / Ranger i already fell more confident of what i can handle. I was already taking down Vynocks with relative easy yesterday where as i think i was actually novice rifleman and was still afraid of them, and to this day i have been incapped by them a couple times, and that is at 3/3/3/3 in rifles!!!!

The 2.5x dam melee modifier is killing rifleman, and as a rifleman i know.

Having said that, i am liking the combo of Carbineer / Ranger. I got noive Medic as well, but dont have the money to buy a crate of stim b's if anyone would like to to donate one, by all means send me a tell (if you are on the valcyn server) to Took'rak Larrin.

Happy Hunting and thanks for the replies, i was just trying toconfirm my thoughts and with what you guys have said and what i was hoping seem to match well with what i was doing yesterday!

And as for pistols, - i just wont use em

And as for pets - not going to get any this time, as a rifleman i needed it but as a carbineer/ranger i dont think i do.

And beside of the shots Carbineers can do are awesome!!

I play on Valcyn I'm a 4-1-4-4 ranger and a 3-3-4-3 Pistoleer I think the reason I have no camping exp is because as a pistoller your down time is pretty low, low special ham cost = more time to hunt. Stacking 2bleeds and spaming fan shot is pretty effective especially if you get a good weaponIuse a 1.8 210 sliced up fwg5 and a not so impressive dx2 but they give me a lot of options. PVE is in better shaep than PVP and that reafirmed my decision to be a ranger. Lets put it this way the "leer" classes seem to have it better than the long gun guys.

i use a carb

they have a range of 40-50 m and traps go the same

and they both use action so you can boost that
