Thread: Retired Master Rangers: What skills did you keep?
I still have my big tent and Tracking 4.
I surrendered the Trapping line to pick uppistol skills (again)and the Wayfaring line topickup Novice Medic (again).
I do miss being able to see damage ranges for critters (from the Master box) and the crawl speed (for taming) but that is about it.

"Would you please drop MS before you agro a mob on us?"
Tracking for the, well tracking, plus the harvests and creature-to-hit bonuses.
Currently I think this is the worthwhileRanger skill line.

Been thinking of giveing up trapping.
I usually only use glow-wire and phen darts when hunting.
The traps just take up too much room when compared to thier effectiveness.
Every now and then a blinding trap, when there are lots of mobs on my pet.
Going to spend the points on CH and pistoleer.
Dropped two boxes in the traps line, will probably deplete it all before I'm through.(4-4-4-2)
I've taken up CH, and increased my medic skills.(CH=2-2-0-1, Med=0-0-0-2)
Along with my already started Pistoleer skills...(.0-0-4-1)
I could be a master ranger if I wanted, but my skill points are dear. So I have 3 boxes of wayfaring that I'm thinking about surrendering (even if its fixed, if it isn't significantly better than maskscent it isn't worth it) and 2 boxes of trapping that I am debating about, I've been hoping they will become useful someday. I never got any frontiering, and I don't think I ever will. Tracking is the line I'm keeping.
Now I feel quite mercenary, but there are a lot of fun boxes in other professions that I want...
As for my decision to drop master ranger, I have never been happier. If you like ranger for the role-play reasons, then by all means get master and enjoy. I was just tired of not really adding to the group of advanced players I hunted with. Yes the camps were nice, but I couldn't really compete in PvP with people who mastered other professions.
I split my master ranger points between CH, medic and pistoleer and my character is WAY stronger and more self sufficient than it ever was at master ranger.
I know the devs are working on rangers, and I havn't completely ruled out taking up ranger again in the future, but there are still too many issues to deal with. The straw that finally broke the camel's back for me was when I got all excited to use the new camo kits and found that not only could I not harvest some of the components, but some were so rare that surveyors I was with couldn't even find them for me on the advanced planets. Ten minutes after that I sold the first few boxes.
I'm still at master trying to be patient with the class. That said, if I were to surrender master, I would give up trapping first (I never use traps and this would give me enough skill points to get novice CH + tame 1/train 1 for a CL 25 pet). I could then give up the frontiering line to get tame 3/train 2 so I could use a graul mauler and get a few extra medic boxes as well (I rarely camp anyway). At the moment, the utility of being a master ranger with those 2 lines is far less than having the extra CH and medic skills since I don't camp or use traps. The only thing I'd miss is the ability to make Dathomirian camo kits assuming they work in the near future.
lol i'm another master ranger who dropped it for BH stuff. i'm always maxed on points so getting it again if it becomes worthwhile won't be a prob.

While moving up the ranger trees I encountered so many rangers who felt the wayfairing was a waste, I never bothered. Judging from the posts, im glad i didn't. For a while I thought it would be a high demand service, but that demand never materialized.
I love my tracking and use it all the time. Yay hunting/tracking.
I like the camping, but only as far as the Field Base Kit. The 5 additional skill pts are best used elsewhere.
The trapping tree was a huge disappointment. The traps wear off beforeI coulddodecentweapons damage. I was safer not risking the potential trap failures and just using carbine specials to stun, KD, blind and all the other state effects. Those ones even last longer along side the damage they cause.
As for the rest, im a happy BH who doesn't waste time with the BH tree, only carbine and LLC. Medic is needed to keep me alive for using specials on the vampire guns (carbines).
Killing animals, rebels and anything else that moves suits me fine. Ain't nothing like stalking your overt reb prey from beyond his visibility range (areatrack). Then when they are in the middle of nowhere, you sick your pet on them from the edge of the horizon and swoop for some electrocution. Presto, one charred reb. Never knew what hit em.

I'm currently a master ranger, ch 2/2/0/3 and pistoleer 3/0/0/1 and thinking of dropping master ranger for ranger 0/0/4/0, ch 4/4/0/0, pistoleer 0/0/0/4 and bh 0/0/4/0. It fit my style of play better. The camping (even the proposed hunting hole) and the trap I haven't used since I mastered Ranger and don't see myself using anytime in the near future.
Haven't made the decision yet, though, since I still love my master ranger title. My pistol xp, ch xp, and all ranger xp are capped, so I need to make up my mind soon.
