Thread: Publish 7... the end of Rangers?
I know my post count is low, but that is mostly due to the fact that I webmaster two of my own sites, one of which is for my guild. So let me introduce myself to my fellow Rangers.
Jalen Mereele, Master Ranger, Valcyn Server, member of Covert Imperial Agency. Been playing since i had knee surgery, about 2 months now.
I have some serious issues with Publish 7 and the total slap in the face it is to the Rangers and Master Scouts of the Galaxies.
Our class was already looked upon by many as a novelty, a farce, a waste of time. The only things we really had going for us were how necessary field camps were for groups. Namely the need for a scout, or ranger to place camps so that other group members could draw forth their vehicles, droids, pets, ect.
The Devs have seen fit to take that away from us. There is no need for a ranger to retrieve anything now.
I have also experienced a loss of range in my areatrack. Prior to the patch I was able to track out to 2.5km. Now it seems I have been reduced to 1.2km and under. WIth the mob spawn (under 300m) issue, my range and usefulness for areatrack has been greatly reduced (at least it seems).
I now get the distinct impression that the game is driving towards a BH/CH/Commmando only combat field. I just wantto know what the Dev's think is so balanced about the ranger class now. We have gone from sometimes useful to almost totally useless. Sure we can still harvest 20-50 units more hide than anyone else, but we take forever to kill creatures that Commandos can kill in a minute. So by math the Commando is able to harvest more than we are over time.
Is anyone else severely upset about the latest changes? Lets just put it this way. Prior to the patch I was Master Ranger/ Carbineer (1-1-1-0), Marksman (0-0-4-4), Medic (0-0-0-0). I picked up my rifles and pistols today to pursue Master Marksman on the road to BH, so I can at least have a purpose in the game again. I am not abandoning Ranger, but I am preparing for the day when the Dev's decide it is obsolete. At least thats the way it seems to be moving.
Wookies protested for armor, and got it. What do the rangers have to do to get a little respect?
Actually I think it's the end of Scouts, or more precisely, the dabbler "so I can use my pet/droid/vehicle when I want" types.
Which is good. Less harvestors, higher prices for me.
I do agree, we got some early love and crapped on since then. We get stuff we don't want (milking, oh what a freaking moneymaker that is) and stuff we like is nerfed (camo).
Maybe we really need to start clamoring and screaming...nah, that's for the BHs. Let whomever our correspondent becomes do that for us. In the meantime, we all know Brisc will do what he can.
Think of it this way, they mess with us enough, then no organic resources. Could you see a multi-server strike? I would laff my azz off.

A multi Server Organic Strike, well it would have to long term. Scouts could bridge the gap in the short term.
In the mean time Rangers would begin to starve as well unless we all had an alternate form of income like harvesters. Ironicly I do have to suppliment my income with at least one harvie.
In any case, I always though the concept of any RPG was to balance all the classes. Well lets just say it ain't happening for the Ranger. Thanks for the feedback.

Starve? What do you spend your money on? I've been trying to find a money sink since launch. I give away almost all of my resources and yet I still keep gaining money (and this has been the case since launch). I doubt I'd need to run more than one or two missions a week to pay for static expenses and possibly one more per travel to an advanced planet. Admittedly I have no trouble with 10k missions solo but, without harvesting, a Ranger would have plenty of time.
As for balance, it will come. But the Devs can only do so much at once. They have just nerfed us about as low as we can go (not quite but close enough). That will probably mean that we will get our chance soon enough. I'm just waiting for the Outdoorsman publish title

Honestly I don't see how 20k a week can help you make it through unless you have not used any of your lots, or you don't play but once a week.
Camps are nothing but a nuissance anyway. I HATED pulling out a camp just to use a vehicle. Also, when grouping, you'd have to sit out the action to keep your camp up.
I'd rather not deal with camps at all until they figure out a way to make them useful.
As for Rangers in general... the prof definitely needs work, but I enjoy harvesting organics. I like lining up a set of buyers, tracking down the good resources, haggling for a price... it can be pretty entertaining.
I kinda like publish 7. Like JB said, it'll get rid of the scout dabblers, and I suppose a few saddened rangers, but it'll go to show who's really there to be a ranger and who's there because they feel they have to be.
The camp thing is old old old news, and has been discussed to death already. Most scouts/rangers seem to like this change just because it is more convenient for them just likeeveryone else. Others feel that something as been taken away form them and cheapened their in-game profession. Personally, I've always felt camps are pretty much useless, perhaps now this will prompt somebody to re-think camps and either remove them from the game and replace them with something else, or make them actually useful.
As far as areatrack, oh man, bad day of areatrack for me. I swear that my ranger toon was blind as a bat all day. I'd track and track and track and never even see the stuff that was literally like 100m-200m away (and I'm a master ranger... for now). SO many times my friends would ask me what is around us to hunt, I'd check, report that there was nothing interesting, only to see one of my friends spot something just off the horizon. Very very very frustrating, maybe there is something to your assertion that it has been nerfed.
Just browsing your profession:
I gave up ranger way back last summer, when it was truely a useless profession. I feel bad for you guys now, but in the long run it might actually help re-define the camping structure of the game. In the old days prior to player cities, vehicles, and mounts camps were a necessary thing when u were stuck out in the wilderness. However they became somewhat of a joke, because now, u can always find a player city close enough to solve your deployment options.
I am sure this has been talked about quite a bit, but what really has to take place is to make the camp something unique that would benefit many players who would find themselves needing a camp. Adding components to a camp where in a combat or wilderness situation players could find themselves utilizing some unique options that a camp could provide.
On another note, I think the scout profession has really be hurt. I am a Bounty Hunter, and actually there isn't much place for the scout outside of terrain negotiation. Right now all the scout tree serves though, is to use up skill points and make the BH the highest skill requirment in the game, without gving anything back.
Anyways, again just someone on the outside, browsing, and wishing you guys the best of luck. It is refreshing to find the odd rare rangers in the game, after observing so many Commando / TKA types.

Well I starve becuase i am also trying to support my guild, and pay maintenance on harvesters. Please share the trick of runing two missions a week and being profitable.

Hmm rangers thinking they got nerfed because of the vehicle/camp calling situation. Hate to break it to all of you, but you were nerfed in this respect from day 1. Novice scout was all that was previously needed to call vehicles out in the wild.... no ranger required.
And quite frankly, what a waste of energy to waste words complaining about this change. I mean cmon doesnt this just go to show just how worthless this profession is. Wouldn't it be more prudent to waste your energies trying to get other things improved instead of trying to get this 1 stupid little annoyance back.
