Thread: Veghash, I was not impressed

I got some Veghash from my local Master Chef.

+12.5% percent it said. Cool.

Beat on some torturs. #1 was a bull, medium size, I got 69 units.

Then I did some hash (no dope jokes, Dave's not here man)

All bulls were medium, I do expect some variation - #2 73units; #3 74units; #4 73units; #5 75units.

4-6 units more was what I got, and thats not quite 12.5% of 69. I hate math, but I can figure my 12.5% was low, unless the later bulls were all smaller than #1. What I need to do is find another Master, we kill one bull and both harvest - one with and one without veghash, to get exact results.

If anyone can do this (Daytona is on in a short, I am gone for a while) feel free, do tell us what ya got.

Least I did not pay for the veghash.

Rather than not paying the poor chef who probably sold it in good faith, perhaps you should report it as a suspected big.

My apologies did not read what you said properly, I see now that the chef gave it to you for free.

I think that it's possible that there isn't a direct 1:1 relationship between harvest bonus and thepercentharvested. For example, perhaps from novice scout, everybody automatically gets X units per harvest. Then, the game looks at your harvesting bonus, multiplies it by Y, and adds that to X. This would also account for the varying percentages NRaas found when he compared amounts harvested at Novice Scout and at Master Ranger.

Ok, now I see. TY all for making me smarter.

So I gain 12.5% on my harvesting modifier. Interesting.

And no, I did not rip off the poor chef person. I was given the stuff, as she owesmea leg or three for selling her chef stuff dirt cheap.

Dave's still not here man.

lol! oh man, this is a hilarious post. This is exactly why the ranger is such an underpowered profession. The increase you got while eating vegash amounts to almost nothing, yet that same increase is what you get when you get tracking 1 AND tracking 2 from novice ranger. That food is giving you the equivalent of TWO skill boxes of harvesting, and it still sucks, lol.

Oh, one more thing, if I understand the "filling" system right (and I probably don't) I think we should be able to stack vegash. We may be able to eat as many as 3 of those simultaneously, which of course would mean that a 0-0-0-0 ranger would be able to harvest as well as a master. Something I'll definitely be trying as soon as I get my hands on some.

I checked. Ate some hash, my harvesting went to 112.

Hmm, pretty much useless. I would rather eat stuff to increase my combat abilities.

Just a quick calculating thought--if they increased harvests by 10% and rounded down, an extra 6 units would be all you should expect. Even using 12.5% and not rounding down, this would only give 8 or 9 extra units per harvest. If you were harvesting 80 units a kill, you should only expect an extra 10. It looks like you get half the bonus you would expect. And that might be somewhat related to the harvesting skill. I believe the 12.5% bonus is to the harvesting skill mod, not to the actual number of harvests. If this were the case, then you might be able to interpret the harvesting skill mod as giving (200+harvest mod)/200 times a base value. So a Master Ranger has about 1.5x the harvest of a novice scout (I believe Master Ranger has a harvesting mod of 100, and I'm incorrectly assuming that a novice scout would have 0). From what I remember, this isn't that far off. It is just annoying.

Hmmm...

When you use Veghash does it change the value of your Harvesting skill modifier in the Ctrl-S window?

If so, then that would explain why "12.5%" provides only a 6% increase, as the +50 in skill provides only 30% increase in production.

Now if it doesn't change the value of the skill itself, then I have no clue what the "12.5%" actually represents.

I guess I'll have to return to civilization and locate a chef to test it for myself... Man...

You are quite right NRaas, the harvest creature skill modifier would increase by 12.5 not 12.5%. This would have very little affect for a ranger. This increase would seem bigger to a novice scout.

"the harvest creature skill modifier would increase by 12.5"

Now, what I find strange is I was under the impression that all the skill modifiers were whole numbers.

Does the food actually increase the modifier by +12.5 ? Or is it only +12 and the .5 is ignored?

It is not a percentage but a skillmod. +12.5 to your harvesting skill. That is a pretty bad veghash to be honest. The possible mod is +10 to +20 without an additive. Add an OK medium BE additive on top of a mediocre Veghash (+15 and a +80% bonus = +27) or a good BE additive on top of a good Veghash (+17 and a 100% bonus = +34) and your harvests might increase a bit more

It would probably be costly though

Oh, and food that mods skills is *not* stackable - only one Veghash a time.
