No.

I can't.

Polite answer. BUY hide and bone?? If I was on chimera I'd sell you some. But, really, you're a RANGER now, kill some critters, use their hide, use the bones. They're free, think of it as a perk of the job...

OK, am off to lie down in a darkened HTFB.

Here, in little tiny words even a Bounty Hunter can understand---

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FREAKING MIND??

BUY HIDE AND BONE? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

Holy freaking crap on a cracker. A Ranger goes out and harvests what is needed, then uses it. What is wrong with that - unless you are a true BH and afraid to leave cities because you can't read the compass and get lost a lot. Oh, poor baby, no waypoints in areatrack and your droids can't hold your wittle hand to lead you to creatures.

Give me a freaking break. Stay BH. Your limited intelligence makes you a man among morons there. You are perfectly suited to the tin can up, buffed and ready to spam, type of play. Rangers don't do that. Boy, you are in for one hell of a shock you try that on some of the nasties we deal with on a daily basis.

You really should think twice, no, make that three times (hint, get some help thinking) about becoming a Ranger.

And if you think this is a flame, wait until you ask for the macro - nah, you probably already have that.

See ya, don't let the door hit ya where the Maker split ya

Friends don't let friends go BH - unless the friends have had frontal lobotomies and are prescribed large amounts of thorazine

seriously, what is with grinding? Is the "end game" all that great that people just can't wait to get there? I could MAYBE understand grinding a combat profession, even though I don't (I just play, and I magically get skills. I think its all that playing I'm doing...), but what is dark-father so excited about that he is grinding? I can't wait to be a master ranger, but I am going to do it the right and proper way. I will play the game and earn it when I do.

OK, am rested. I had to go get myself a drink of camomile tea and look at the little sheepies out in the field back of the house...

Darkfather, you deserve a reasoned response to your perfectly legitimate enquiry. You are, after all, a reformed character, having walked the path of BH and realised that the true destiny of the scout it to achieve rangerliness... or something. (AWFULLY good tea that...)

Okay. Camping. Gaining wilderness experience.

First of all, there is no need to grind. In fact, unless you are willing to sit in camps all day and all night for, oh, I dunno, a fortnight? More? Less? Doesn't matter, for a MIND NUMBINGLY INSANE amount of time, there is no 'grinding' wilderness experience. There are, it's true, a few ways to speed the process up, but it's not quite as simple as, for example, needing weapons XP so you go after higher level critters. Don't matter where you camp, you get the same amount of xp. Eventually.

Materials. They are, literally, all around you. Kill stuff, harvest it. You don't need a huge stack of stuff, you can only make one camp at a time', and you can only occupy one camp at a time. No point using uber resources either, makes not a jot of difference. Sad, but true.

As you progress up the skill tree the type of camps available to you increases and the amount of XP required before maxing the camps also goes up. I don't have figures here, but trust me, it does.

You CAN improve the rate the XP comes in by a number of activities in camp. Healing. Crafting camps or traps. Fishing. Having a bunch of folk over to visit. The more individual visitors who go through your camp the faster it will reach its max XP. Pitching your camp near a starter town, on a busy transit route, or near a major city will attract more visitors... you WILL get to love hearing people say "Wow, this is a neat camp..." and knowing that the next level gets you an even better one.

There is, as is often mentioned in these parts, no 'right' way to do this part of the job, but here's one way.

Drop a camp,
craft a camp. (to replace the one you just dropped)
craft some traps.
Heal your wounds. Better still, unless you need the medic xp get a friend to heal your wounds.
!!! Bring a friend. Their presence in camp is already gaining you xp at a higher rate than just you on your lonely.
!!!!!! Bring LOTS of friends. The more the merrier. It's called a Hunt Party. It's even better if they've got some wounds
After a period of time that'll vary from 15 minutes DOWN depending on how many of the above you've done, it'll be time to

Disband your camp. If its not at the max level, and that'll vary with the type of camp, leave it up longer next time. You'll get the hang of it.

(If you pull your bike / mount / droid before disbanding you'll save 15s. Keep a couple of the basic scout camps in your inventory. Use them to pull pet/bikes, etc. It's ALL xp, even if its only double figures)

Most of all, it's going to take a fair bit of time, that's just how it is. Have as much fun as you can and make camping just one of the things you do while being a ranger, not the only thing you're doing.

Worst case scenario? You have no friends and nobody has wounds. Fine. Good time to read your mail, chat on RIN, spam your auctions....

Have fun,

oh, and read the stickies, all this has been said 1000 times more eloquently by folk up there...

Go kill some stuff.

' OK OK You can make more than one camp at a time, with a pile of crafting tools and do it in practise mode... but if you're going to do that, I hear tailor is a really good profession for button mashing.

Almagill made me ashamed of my post. He answered in a thoughtful manner a truly legitimate question, whereas I answered off the cuff with my emotions. Sorry DarkFather for not truly helping. Which is why I was drawn to Ranger in the first place. I'll do better next time.

Omg... roflmao.... That is so so so so funny.. lol

My advice would be to adverstise on the planetary chat tab that you are being a tumbling monkey in your camp and that will bring out some people to sit there. Healing gets better xp.

Um, partner, you are seriously in the wrong profession to be talking about "grinding." And as for buying creature resources... well, I think JB and the rest have covered that issue well enough. Relax, enjoy being a ranger, help some people out, camp when you can. You'll get there. If you don't like the ranger lifestyle, that's okay, you can choose 30-something other professions. IT's nothing to stress out about.

Grinding Ranger..... now what part of that statement makes no sense?

Honestly. I found little difference in Novice Ranger than I did in Master Ranger. You get more camps and traps. You can track more things and harvest a little more(tho it's a debate if the difference between Master Scout and Master Ranger is worth the SP's). But it's a profession where you enjoy your "grind". If you try to grind, you'll drop Ranger before you even get close.

Go to Dath and kill rancors. Collect bone and hide. Now you have your materials.

hello it's me, sorry i've cause alot of angst. It seems like i have caused alot of negative opinion so perhaps I should explain (though why I should bother is another argument alltogether) . I was bored with how the bounty hunter profession was denied it's full capacaty as a means for players to extract vengance etc upon players who abuse their high combat status as i had imagined it (see the dath mark system). So having checked out most of the other professions I thought the ranger profession most suited my desired method of play.

BUT due to working nights at the moment ( uber mega massive moula) i thought the best way to progress my character would be to grind the camp construction and use skill in the small amount of time i have spare. (you try getting all the buffs and a solo group required for bull rancors missons at 7 am gmt!)

so there you are, i would have liked to and still intend to play my way throught the ranger system but due to real life commitments i chose to short cut the most onerous part of the profession.

thanks

broa jace

ps please forgive the bad spelling, i've been awake, working and online for 23hrs now.

good night all and good hunting.

I play on Chimaera.

I don't have a wp handy, as I am at work, but near Bestine is Oasis Mall, do CTRL-V and search for vendors with OASIS in the name around bestine, there is a organic resources vendor there, last time I checked it did have lower quality hide on it @ 10cpu.

As other's have said, get a buff and go kill Rancors, infact anything on Dathomir or Endor, that has hide, you will get alot very quickly.
