Thread: Traps not drawing a beastie out?

Hi all

As part of my CH development I have been using a technique a friend showed me, wherein u throw a trap at a beastie which draws them out form the lair to attack you. U then send your pets in which draw the attacks. Combined with a CL30 combat/medic droid and bacta shot I have been succesfully taking down CL60-70 lairs solo (am CL69 now)

What I have found, and it seems to b getting worse, is that sometimes the creature gets affected by the trap but refuses to charge out. You then have to take out the rest of the beasties as any further traps also do not draw them out. Once it's the only one left you can sent in the pets & droid to take it out and it also seems to not damage anything.

Is this a known bug or am I just misunderstanding the whole issue of the use of traps?

And I apologise now if this has been posted before but there are quite a few big's reported and this is a sorta cross ranger/CH issue.

I've also noticed the bug but from my experience it's not just when using traps. It seems to happen mostly when I attack a creature and then its friend decides to help and enters combat (after the '?' and '!'). Except it just stays there and doesn't attack, which is very similar to the old pdart snare bug.

It's possible that it might be pet related since I'm a CH too.

I had much success with Trapping yesterday (including pulling 1 at a time, mostly with Glow Wire, but also with Stink Bomb), but I did notice something similar with a rifleman friend of mine. He was trying to grab a few mobs using his rifle, from range, and they would just stand there taking it. it was pretty random.

Now that I think about it, I have noticed that a few critters (namely Sawtooth and a Rancor, plus random critters on Kashyyyk) would stop doing damage OR stay KDed for an exceptionally long time. I suspest traps may still be turning off AI...shhhh....

My guestions are, what traps were you using and did you see this as a local phenomon or was it widespread (planetwide or galaxy wide)?

I think this is happening most often on mobs which spawn from a lair, not the ones that are there when you show up.

Also, Kash creatures are kind of weird about area of assistance.

Bio - didn't this happen to us a few times yesterday. Remember the swirl prongs that just stood there while we blasted them? I thought that maybe it was just lag on my part (sometimes the creature graphics don't keep up with what is happening on the server), but then I noticed that no one in our group was taking damage and also the corpse didn't slide towards the group after we killed the creature (which usually happens with lag).

I mainly use wire mesh, glow-wire and sharp bone spur as they are all target-specific but have had same problem with pdart.

As for where I hunt, mainly on Coro where I hunt gronda's and sharnaffs although I have had the same problem on Rori, Tat and Talus.

Also spoke to my m8 who is master ranger/master CH and he's had same problem on other planets but says sometimes if u go back to the creature they react normally.

Hope that helps ....

Wow...I suspect it is indeed a problem with the traps, then.

Yep, did you use traps against all of them though?

I still believe that it is an issue where they enter combat before their AI has loaded, or maybe there is a flaw with lair spawns themselves.

Well, glad I could help. To be honest i do take advantage of it when it happens but it is frustrating to have a system to do a lair (care of my m8 who taught me) and it not always work.

Oh, just to add fuel i also went on a 8 man group hunt, with my 2 pets and droid, and used same technique as we had no tanks and same problem occurred,.

From my own experience if u use a trap on another beastie it works fine and you can just go back to the original one at your leisure, m8 has confirmed he does the same.

I have had something similer happening. some times my Underhand Shot acts like a permanent knock down. It never does that with eliete mobs ( Krayts, Kimos, Gorax ), only standard mobs between +- 10 pts of my CL lvl. strange.

I've found it depends on their posture when I first hit them with a trap. In the hunting grounds all the creatures will stand up when hit with a trap, but then stay where they are, keeping me in combat with them for a moment, and then stop and go about their business. If I hit one of their friends that is postured down, the same thing happens. Then if I hit one of them that is standing up, he comes charging towards me. Then I have to go deal with 2 at once.

It's definately a challenge trying to remember to throw the trap at the creatures that are standing, and not sitting or prone.
