Thread: A dispondant ranger.

Now I hope I'm not going to get flamed for this as it's not ment to be offensive to anyone, but I decided as I already had scout that I would do Ranger to see what it was like. After reaching master I found I was dissapointed with the profession as it diddnt really seem to offer me much.
What is it about ranger you people all like so much? I'm not really into selling creature harvests and I dont go tracking rare animals much so maybe I just chose the wrong profession to do, but it would be nice to see if you like the profession for something I may have missed.
On top of that I purchased a +5 to rescue armour attach which I have not used due to me never really settling into ranger, so if your on wanderhome and would be interested in that send a g-mail to screamingfubar. Not really after much otherwise I would put it up for auction but I guess someone here could make good use of it.
Again hope I have not offended anyone would just like to hear about your experiances with ranger.

Lots ask this very same question.
There is no short answer to this but i supose it could come down to most like the community here becuase its friendly and lots of creative ideas get thrown about.
Ipersonally love being a ranger and part of the ranger community because of the way people just throw ideas around and i alsolike how people dont mind if i write ideas out. They are often long but some spend time reading some of them, and i apreciate that alot.
Theres not much to do in the ranger tree skill wise but just slightly 'feeling' more like a hunter or ranger is enough to keep the dedicated happy.
I hope you find the profession that suits you and have lots of fun, just remember one of these days we are going to get fixed and revamped so keep checking us out.

Ranger for me is much less than what I spend my skill points on than it is how I play the game.
True, being a master ranger does not mean that you are a master hunter, and the profession has a lot to be desired...
nevertheless, for me its the community, its the fact that we share ideas and we rarely get into a big ol flame fest.
the point of the game is to have fun, and if ranger's not your way of having fun... cool, go find what makes you happy

I think you are in the wrong forumfor flames..... 
Anyway, it seems you chose the wrong proffession.... Most of us hunt for a living and sometimes, tracking for other players.
My guess why Rangers are Rangers is because some sort of D&D history.... That certainly applies to me 
What is it about Ranger I like so much?.... I'm a hunter, I like the hunting bonuses and the Role Playing aspect of being a Ranger. Like fictional rangers, I'm elusive, quiet and love nature.... Ask my friends, they can vow too that I'm very much by myself but yet humbly available for everybody. I guess, the RP aspect of Rangership is what keeps me a Ranger.

Yeah i hardly ever think about role playing in game, but thinking about it, the feeling of being a ranger is great. I like 'playing' a ranger even though i dont rp but i still feel like im playing a hunter.
Its wierd, sort of subconcious role play

Yes, it's sort of weird.... All Rangers (the few of them) I meet, in game, are very humble and polite... It's like as if the Ranger tag subcoinciously clenses the mind

I like throwing things at mobs and outrunning Nightsister Rangers. Tracking, camps, I just like Ranger. Have been Commando, Master TK, Master Pistoleer am currently Master Rifleman but didn't use a sig or Master tag Until I mastered ranger. Can't put my finger on it I just like it.

You're probably going to get several replies saying this, but: Ranger is a lifestyle, not a profession. Not every profession can be judged on simple uberness or on what the profession can craft, or even how usefull the skillmods are.
You get out of ranger what you put into it. I have recently gotten kinda bored with the game. I have almost all of the badges (90+), done most of the quests, hunted every creature in the game, and I found myself wondering what to do.
So to keep from pulling the plug on my modem, I have downloaded the swg maps for all the planets and started to go to all of those little bitty dots thatarecovering the landscape. You know what? Some of those look pretty cool. I need to go back to some of them and take screenshots. If I ever get a web page up, I may start posting them.
Exploring is kinda fun. Hardly anyone has ever gone 8K out in the wild unless they are going to get a POI badge, or they are hunting/raiding. I'm doing it just to see what is out there.
You should try it. It may rekindle that "ranger feeling" to know that you may be the only player to see the floating rocks on dathimar, or the burning altar on talus, or the burning circle on lok, or the multitude of pyramids on yavin, or the ..........
If you find yourself losing your motivation to play then just try different things. Not everything is about the uber template of the month.

For me I guess one of the big draws to ranger was the HTFB. When I was a kid about 20 years ago I lived ina a small neighborhood on a swamp that had some good wilderness around it. All the local kids would go off into the woods and have stick fight s and the such. But me, I was the kid that scoped out all the best spots for the forts. I was never on either side of the battles. I just wandered and looked for spots that didn't look like a fort should be there. The HTFB is an extension of my childhood hobby of building forts so ranger seemed like the right idea. Besides, theres nothing like having some new guy finding me in my HTFB and crapping his pants at the size of it.

LOL, so funny.... I do that too... For the past month I have travelled from planet to planet.... I have all the exploration badges, so I'm not looking for those... Just travelling, visiting every single green structure I detect on my overhead map (No reason, just plain curiousity).

I went on a photography experdition a while back, that was great fun, i have beutiful scenic screenshots taken at the right angles, in the right light and caturing the best out of each area. I was proud of the places i visited, just never got around to finishing it.
I will have to one day and make them available to everyone.
If your bored and have nothing to do, i advice putting everything on max settings and jerking through the best bits of each planet taking in the 'views'. Its great.

I'm a Ranger because I like to just go out and explore. I have tried combat professions to go with Ranger but I just would get bored of hunting. Now I can't really kill anything but I still have no problem going for long walks on Dathomir, Endor, Yavin, ... And, if I find any nice creatures to kill, I can really help out in the fight (even if I can no longer solo the stuff myself--that got boring way too quickly). And I've finally convinced some of my friends to walk when hunting with me instead of pulling out speeders right away (Group Terrain Negotiation from Squad Leader really is great).
