Thread: A dispondant ranger.

A long time ago, before vehicles and creature mounts, when the bolma roamed Endor, I sat in a camp overlooking a valley on the forest moon. A man came to me and asked if he could sit in my camp for a while. He sat, we talked. He was a creature handler. He asked me what I was doing out there so far from civilization. I said that I lived there.

He bawked and asked me again. I told him it was true.

I have guided adventurers to the Ewok villages in the trees and on the lakes ... before the Imperial Tourist Bureau put them on the map, when it was an evening pilgramage and everyone had to be careful where they stepped. A ranger learned to guide a group through dangerous lands, camoflauging our wards and walking them through the safer paths that I had found.

I have found beautiful fishing spots with just the right feel, a romantic view for a wealth patron's wedding, and many sights that still to this day only a handful of curious explorers know of.

I have rescued wayward adventurers too eager to see the wilds of Endor before they would be protected by their speeders, trapping the vial thing hunting them and giving them the time to breathe and escape.

I have slept under the stars, and hosted evening festivities at my camps. I have tracked the Peko Peko Albotros and endless gurrecks for friends and for profit.

All these I have done and many things more. Moments, a life of moments that I will cherrish and remember fondly. Moments that grow in number with every day and night. Treasures that I find every now and then. Treasures and moments that I would never have known if I had not taken the time to search and to see. Time that the profession enforced one way or another. Treasures that I would probably not have known if I were anything else.

This is my life as a Ranger, from Novice Scout to Master Ranger. From mask scent not working to today and beyond. I could be nothing else.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

This is definitely the best profession for those who want to experience the whole of the SWG universe. To me being a Ranger is about PLAYING the game with thought and tactics, not using formulas and templates. I hope to someday see and learn all the things my ranger peers have without having to have those things shown to me. You can be honest and give opinions on this forum without fear of flames or put-downs. Rangers tha disagree with you will do it with respect. Though I will become force enhanced, I will never leave Ranger now that I am here.

ROLFLMAO

Someone bought a Rescue SEA????

OMG. That is priceless.

Someone should explain that rescue as it stands now is basically suicide in a command, and any skill modifiers for it are a joke. The basic rescue gets you killed, the higher you go I guess you get killed quicker. +5 means you die a quick painless death instead of a slow painlful one ??

man, the stuff people will buy

Jawa beads anyone?

LOL Sfubar,
My guess why Rangers are Rangers is because some sort of D&D history.... That certainly applies to me
But that's me

True, while ive played my fair share of table top rpg's, ive never actually played the ranger in them... although i always kinda wanted to.

While I dont actively RP, my natural disposition is to have a character concept, and play that concept. Strangely, its not too far from my own personal attitude.

Yes, it's sort of weird.... All Rangers (the few of them) I meet, in game, are very humble and polite... It's like as if the Ranger tag subcoinciously clenses the mind

I think it is the other way round - the profession attracts a particular type of person, and those people are in general politeand open-minded

Has there been a run of the bartle test in here to see what "type" of MMORPG players we are ?

I suspect that (on average)Killer would be very low on our score, and Acheivers and Explorers very high, with Socialisers kind of medium ........

http://www.andreasen.org/bartle/test.cgi

and maybe people have already done the Myers-Briggs or Keirsey Temperance tests ?

http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes1.htm

I think I was about 65% on Achiever, Explorer and Socialiser with about 5% on Killer :-)

and I am an INFJ .....

just be interesting to see if there are similarities ....

I tok the MUD test before, and if I recall, I had different results...

Explorer - 66%

Socializer - 60%

Killer - 40%

Achiever - 33%

I think that mix is a pretty good match for a Rifleman Ranger, although the Social may be a bit high for a 'loner.' But I am almost always hunting with someone, so it makes sense for me .

I had never taken the Bartles and James Test and I was a bit surprised by the results of that test.

I - 56

S - 33

F - 11

J - 33

I always fancied myself as a thinker, but ifI think (ironic) about the questions that were asked, I am not much of a thinker, I am indeed a feeler (I think that was the opposite of a thinker..). I am happy with no change in how I do things. I fear the changes of the CB, but I am all for changes to Ranger...go figure.

Achiever 40%
Killer 13%

and

Introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging
Strength of the preferences %

I think it makes sense with how I enjoy being a ranger.... I spend a ton of time alone in the wilds sneaking around in the bushes

You really have to have it in you bro. If you dont find it interesting to find new ways to hunt and explore, stuff a Ranger does, or thelifestyle itself, then you definitely are in the wrong profession. It is always good to try it out for size and find you dont enjoy it. Rangers are rather creative, whether by choice or by necessity, due to the amount of skills and GCW usefulness. We make the best of our situation and make light of the issues to keep us sane (with the exception of JBMatt - who was already insane but in a good way) and keep us laughing. We are a close knit family by Forum standards and are always willing to help one another out.

If you were open to suggestions, I would follow the exploration path and go see the sights...use your skills...and learn the actual usefulness of the skills we do have...and try throwing up a few HTFB's near coronet or some populated place and just sit there listening to the comments....it will swell any pride you have at being a Ranger.

Chin up mate. As a few folk have already said "Ranger. It's a Lifestyle, not a profession".

Me? I constantly ask myself why-oh-why am I still working towards Master Ranger? Then I find something like the Stone Circle on Tatooine, or walk calmy and unmolested into a dungeon creeping with nasty biting and spitting things. Not for any loot, but to see what's there.

I am singularly cr*p in PvP, but that's fine, I'm not interested in the GCW as that's just "something that's happening 'in' the world" though I do get more and more p'd off wehn I watch some novice psychopath slaughtering every living thing in a 500m radius and then not harvest it.... Hmm, maybe I'm an envoronmentalist at heart, lol.

I live by the ethos of "If you can use it, kill it and harvest it. If you can't, leave it alone. If it's going to kill you, well, what do you think /burst is for?" Camo up and sit under a tree on Dantooine and watch the wildlife rip each other to bits, hear the screams of random players getting mauled when they bite off more than they can chew.

Stumble across a gungan hunting party on Naboo or head out into the hinterlands of Corellia looking for snow and pine trees....

Ranger? You get out a lot more than you put in, but what you get out might not be what you expected.

One great thing to remember is that, if you HAVE invested heavily in getting into a profession tree and then decide it's not for you, nobody is going to think any the worse of you for deskilling and going to do something else you enjoy more. Strange thing is, people come into Rangerdom, and, if they're not 'just passing thru' they do seem to stick around.

Travel well, and remember there's always a space in camp for you when do you come back.
