Thread: Rangers should have Innate Armor

This is a perfect time to add another class into the game that has innate armour. In my opinion the game already loses a lot of Starwars feel due to the fact that everyone but a TK/Jedi is pigeonholed into wearing armor. Other then Stormtroopers, Vader and Fett not many wore armour (ST's died in one shot regardless). Han, Chewie, Lando, Leia and the rebels in general didn't wear much if any armor. Rangers are being made into recon/scouts/spies/thieves so having innate armour due to their training and nimbleness could work and give players another option that don't want to wear armor but don't want to have to play a melee based TKM.

actually,

and this is just a thought... since there are a lot of melee rangers, rather than innate armor, because to be honest, that really sounds like a skill that the tka should have.

one of the things i would like to have would be some sort of damage mitigation, since we are essentially moving from combat support to combatants, some sort of mitigation to reflect our natural dexterity and skill in damage avoidance.

(just a thought and i dont know if its a good one yet)

damage mitigation, melee/ ranged defenses will work for me quite well, but innate armor really seems to step on the toes of the teras kasi.

this is not a flame at all. but i do think you have hit the core idea of something good.

We have a version of inate armor already. It's called smear a bothan all over you and nothing will come near you. Those little guys smell worse than a krayt's large intestine.

Damage mitigation versus innate armor.

-----
Iconic professions. Ok. Chewbacca was a Scout. How come that didn't stay?

When you think about it, aren't almost all of the original professions iconic? You can find something on each of them in the Expanded Universe.

I miss being a Ranger. It was more than a profession, it was a virtual way of life. It wasn't for everyone. But those who took it up became family.

Considering that armour does nothing else but mitigating armour, this is an interesting question...

The TK Innate Armor is meant to reflect years of intensive avoidance training, I think giving the new Ranger any kind of Innate armor is not a good idea..seeing ashow they are more para-military types.

Giving the new Ranger IA would just lean the profession a little to more towards that of a Ninja style.. or you could say Sith, I see the current era Sith as kind of evil Ninja/Samurai ideology (the trueSith beings are long dead.. supposedly).

It do not take years upon years to learn the TKA ways, grinders do it a lot faster. Yes I know the fiction behind it is different, but TKA's train thair body to absorb the damage. Rangers could learn how to move to take less damage, such as moving with a melee blow, or turning to make a blaster shot just strife them. It would be a different kind of inner armour. Granted it should not be able to stack with TKA armour nor with Jedi armour.

As for the style, we are to think more "spy" and we was told, then wearing clothing would be more spy like then wearing a full blown set of armour. And it would be a lot more flexible, and silent for sneaking around in.

That being said, I think he** has a better chance of a snowstorm the we have of getting inner armour.

Pikatta pie adds to your Dodge bonus - ergo such a bonus exists. What about giving Rangers a natural boost to their Dodge bonus (with the biggest bonus at Master naturally)? Such a bonus would only be gained when NOT wearing armor (or perhaps haved by wearing armor I dunno). This would seem to suit the nature of the profession, and introduce another form of damage avoidance.

Its not innate armor, and it compensates the Melee Rangers (well ok the TKA Rangers) for the wasted points they will have to spend in Carbine prerequisites.

I am at complete disagreement over wearing innate armor. (Hmm i'm an As too, wonder why i have this opinion.) I like it for TK's cause they should be good at dodging, but how to they dodge blasters? blasters go at the speed of light, it's not like they have time to react, they would only be good at reacting to the direction at which the beam is fired, and even then that's exceptional ability.

Personally Recon armor still makes the most sense, even though it will be battle. I just can't see this new style ranger wearing something big and bulky like those Marauder, RIS, or bone suits... but a Mabari or Ubese suit seems so much more applicable to ranger.

ummm soon as ranger pre req are unarmed 4xxx you can have some form of low end inate armor....I agreed with rangers when the made the argument that they should have cloak/cover/dispear offthe radar cause your skill tree in camo covered it instead of rifleman...i give you the same arguement....

or I guess TKM's can just ask for cloak.cover/off the radar special also...you knowbecaus3 were liek ninja n stuff m kay

FYI...TKM inate armor anit all that great...just cheap

Thanks.

LOL

man would that have us smugglers frothing at the mouth!!!

but seriously i agree there needs to be more viable armor alternatives in the game... Hardly anyone wore armor in the movies and yeah ST armor seemed to suck ((anyone ver play the starwars drinking game where you take a shot everytime ST armor proves ineffective? )) but its not going to happen, would be kinda bad news for the armorsmiths dont ya think
