I am the flexible reed that bends in the wind... play as long as I have and you would have to be.

I can't wait for this change as it will be a NEW experience for my oldest and most favorite toon. Those of you who are pissy for one reason or another... The glass is indeed 1/2 full.

For those of you guys who are just tuning in...

There will be one scout branch and the carbine branch in marksmen as the new pre-req's for being a ranger...

I decided to reconfigure my template to the new reqs. mostly because i have to but partly because my template could use some shaking up. I'm master scout, master ranger and master rifleman with 4 sp left over. When the new reqs hit i'll be -10 sp. So I'm changing to 4000 scout (sad to see HTFB's gone from my inventory but whatever), master rifleman, master ranger, 4044 marksman and 0403 BH. Good defenses and decent speed. Should be fun. I'm already starting to bank up some xp to make things go by faster. Can't wait to try this out.

I just dont like wasting points is all... If its carbs/exploration then I am pretty much being pushed towards either carbs or BH, which I wouldn't mind except for my scout trooper armor would have to be hung up to dry since they caved in on the recon armor issue. If on the other hand they move it to ranged support and trapping then I will have the flexibility to take up any of the primary ranged profs without the wasting of points. Its kinda funny that when you start to think about roleplay in our new role, unarmed makes more sense for us as sneaking around than it does for commando, certainly.

Everyone has a right to express their opinion on this matter. Doing so does not make one "pissy". I've played as long as you, and in the end, that time means nothing. There are probably several melee Rangers who've played as long as you who're not going to be so easy to convice that this is not a big deal. Point is that it's always easier not to complain when the change is okay for you, but for melee Rangers, this is no small deal. They have to decide between sticking with Ranger and gimping themselves in the process, or lose out on being a Ranger and having stealth.

Just because you're not upset doesn't mean that nobody else can be or should be. Seeing as how you're a ranged toon, this change is easy to swallow. If you were currently a melee ranger and had NO intention of playing a ranged character, how would you feel. Perfect example-- how would you feel if the devs one day said that lightsaber were going to be removed (or alternatively, if you're a power jedi, how would you feel if they removed powers)? Wouldn't you feel like you were being forced to pick a way of doing damage that your didn't want? I know I would.

That's whats happening to melee Rangers now, and I think calling them pissy because they don't want to be forced to switch weapons to stay effective is like me chopping off one of your arms and telling you to stop crying because they have prosthetics. If you're attached to something (melee combat or your arm for example) no replacement will ever be quite the same.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Well said. I've been master at melee and master at ranged. There is a major differance in playstyle. My personal choice will always be melee. I was a rare breed as a Ranger and am now a rare breed as Melee. Just can't seem to do the FOTM. *shrugs*

I love that analogy Phenix. True and kinda funny at the same time.

After the CU I was playing around alot with Carbines because their mezzing capabilities complimented traps very well.

Ultimately - because I'd spent so much on tapes and rifles - I stuck with my Ranger Rifleman template. I have a very large amount of money invested in my rifles and parting with them will be very sad.

Count me among the Atkins Rangers - no carbs.

I wouldn't say require Rifle instead - don't get me wrong. I'd rather see something that fits the professions goals but also gives the Melee folks a chance to participate.

Hahahah but seriously...............count me in too. Im a TKM and MRanger......That doesnt even leave room for anything else really. I LIKE my template. I dont want to have to become a BH or Carbineer. If I do then Ill be weak and pathetic until I put on some of my armor from my collection and take down one of the good carbines from my collection..........but for those that dont collect armor and guns.....Then theyll be weak and pathetic until they can buy some good armor and a good carbine....that is NOT fair on any level!

Just a thought, but doesn't the whole vibe of a ranger tend to lean more towards a ranged profession? I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't really feel that forcing any type of combat on a ranger is a good decision. But a ranger is a woodsy type, someone that stays in the woods a lot and knows the land, he would probably use a ranged weapon of some sort, either a carbine or a rifle, not his bare hands.... except maybe if he were a pikeman using a big stick...
