All the rifle and pistol players are looking at this Carbine prereq the wrong way, it's an opportunity to pick up some Carbineer skills. I recommend Carbines 0430 for a ton of general ranged accuracy, a set of ranged and melee defense, Improved Legshot, and Improved Chargeshot. Or add in Improved Supression Fire for 2 more skill points. I was looking at some numbers myself, and I might take the opportunity to pick up rifleman 4400 for Concealshot and Improved Snipershot myself. Again with a host of general ranged accuracy and a decent amount of ranged defense.

Sure there's no healer, but we've all gotten by without it this long, and if you're not the bigggest baddest PvP player out there you probably won't miss it.

I can't wait for this change as it will be a NEW experience for my oldest and most favorite toon. Those of you who are pissy for one reason or another... The glass is indeed 1/2 full.

Absolutely. It really just boils down to what you want to do and what you have fun doing. It seems to me most of my favorite Ranger skills are moving down to Scout, anda whole new skillset is being added toRanger.

Everyone has a right to express their opinion on this matter. Doing so does not make one "pissy". I've played as long as you, and in the end, that time means nothing. There are probably several melee Rangers who've played as long as you who're not going to be so easy to convice that this is not a big deal. Point is that it's always easier not to complain when the change is okay for you, but for melee Rangers, this is no small deal. They have to decide between sticking with Ranger and gimping themselves in the process, or lose out on being a Ranger and having stealth.

Just because you're not upset doesn't mean that nobody else can be or should be. Seeing as how you're a ranged toon, this change is easy to swallow. If you were currently a melee ranger and had NO intention of playing a ranged character, how would you feel. Perfect example-- how would you feel if the devs one day said that lightsaber were going to be removed (or alternatively, if you're a power jedi, how would you feel if they removed powers)? Wouldn't you feel like you were being forced to pick a way of doing damage that your didn't want? I know I would.

That's whats happening to melee Rangers now, and I think calling them pissy because they don't want to be forced to switch weapons to stay effective is like me chopping off one of your arms and telling you to stop crying because they have prosthetics. If you're attached to something (melee combat or your arm for example) no replacement will ever be quite the same.

I've played it all phe'nix and I do not exagerate when saying that. So no I disagree, if I was a melee ranger I would adjust just like ive done 12's of times. If you don't think some of these 100's of different posts don't sound whiney, well you are entitled to your opinion too =)

The reed will either bend in the wind or break and die.

While I dont care about the Carbine thing that much(would have perferd rifles) I dont think it is fair to those who had another idea in mind.I like the traps IV and ranged support IV idea better.

Having Carbs as pre-req is by far the worst decision ive seen come out of this revamp and im certainly not going to accept being gimped into one specific weapon just because the devs have a personal opinion on the matter.

Its absolut bs that we should have to pick up marksman, never mind a specific weapon tier. Wow its going to be so fun to see all the ranger/carbineers running around, so much for template diversity eh?

Why do we have to have carbines in our pre-reqs when we have nothing to do with carbs? If we have some cabine related skills then sure, but we dont. If we havea background in marksmanship then we should be going down ranged support then, not a specific weapons specialisation. And i dont for one second believe what the devs say about the ui not being able to support ranger as RS4. Ive looked at the skills window and there is plenty enough room for ranger on there.

End of the day, the devs can make a good decision or stick with a crap decision and turn 90% of rangers into a generic ranger/carbine template which will just be a waste of a revamp.

Did they actually say that????

They want to mess the majority of ranger players around just because they can't use a smaller font or move some text around?

You missed the point. People are very attached to Ranger, right? Well others are just as attached to being a melee toon. They have no desire to shoot a gun. It's not a matter of being "flexible", it's a matter of what's fun for each person. If they change the game such that you no longer have fun, sticking around it's being flexible, it's being stupid. The point of the game is to have fun, if the only template that lets you have fun is being removed, then why stay?

Again, if I cut off your arm, would you be angry at the loss of the arm, or would you be "flexible" and say "well, a prosthetic arm is almost is good, and I'm like a flexible reed in the wind, so I totally don't mind not having an arm, and I'm continue hanging out with Phenix" ?My guess is that you'd be hurt, then you'd be angry, then you'd do your best to distance youself from me. Well melee Rangers who love their templates will likely do the same thing. Be hurt, be angry, and then leave.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Yup, that was one of the excuses.

As soon as bs was called though the conversation moved towards two lines in scout isnt an option etc and rifleman is already really powerful so we dont want to promote that profession etc.

Basically excuses when the only thing that really needs doing is move pre-reqs to ranged support 4 and trapping 4. You still need 3 tiers in pre-reqs at least for any ranger/combat template just like every other profession out there so i just dont see the issue.

Yeah that is true, but really theres no argument to be made against RS4 and trapping4, and compared to carb/explore, you'd only have to add 14 points to pick up any of carbs, pistols, rifles, BH, SL which offers a lot more diversity.

It's still 19 points cheaper, and this means you will have 23 points after master of anything + master of Ranger, and even more points if it is a hybrid or marksman or scout based profession

Bio,

Here is the important part you overlooked in your equation.

Twenty-Nineof those points after revamp go into your combat mastery also, they are dual purpose points people keep overlooking.

Hi Rolfie, (this is not a flame) Bio didn't overlook them, but there's something I think you might have overlooked - here's what I mean:

- Those 29 points only serve a dual purpose if a Ranger is going to use the Carbineer Elite combat professsion.

- If a Ranger uses another Ranged Elite combat profession (pistols or rifles), then the 14 points used to get Carbines 4 (14=29-15) wouldn't have been used if not for the proposed ranger prerequisits.

- If a Ranger uses a Melee Elite combat profession, then all 29 points (29=15+14) in marksman are serving no purpose to such a player.
