Thread: Issues with Maskscent?
Ember,
Oddly enough, there are many of us who would disagree with you.
I'm coming to the conclusion that its not the low level creatures that are the problem - it's that the low level creatures spawn in large numbers, and you have a "check" against each individual creature. It's inevitable that one of them gets lucky and detects you.
I was able to traverse most of Lok and Yavin 4 only using Maskscent and I didn't have any significant problems.

Delta,
I was with a group of 4 on Yavin 4 tonight and any time anybody in the group tried to turn on Mask Scent a Kliknik would immediately (within 5 seconds) break the mask scent and insta-warp aggro them. After we all agreed to NOT use mask scent at all nothing else aggroed us until we hit our destination. Not using mask scent was actually safer than using it. Klikniks are not low level creature, but they are in big groups.
Before the patch a week ago, Mask Scent almost never broke, maybe happened once or twice a day that something would actually break it.
I have a thread: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=10940where I was trying to determine if this was server dependant.
I had a BAD run of breaks tonight. I can't believe it should be like this. I also had one small period were I fully expected it to break and didn't. I'm also wondering if the creature is a factor somehow, perhaps erroniously?
A purely subjective observation:
I was on Dathomir with a CH friend. I am one box (wayfaring)away from Master Ranger. My friend hasthe minimal skills neededfor CH. I had no pets out, he had one Graul.
I was using MaskScent, he was not. We were approx 70m away fromsome ancient rep flyers. Onfour separate occasions, the flyers broke my MS and aggro'ed me, ignoring my friend and his pet.
I knowthis is probably observational error, due to the low sample and the difficulty level of the creatures/planet, but my friend has now renamed be 'bait'.
Almost as embarrassing as when I couldnt find the camp controls to the brand new HTFB I made immediately after getting Frontiering IV.

I was having an issue with Maskscent until I ran some test and looked at the numbers.
Now I believe that maskscent is working pretty well, it is the chance to provoke attack that I am concerned with now.
I, as a Master Ranger, am attacked around 65% of the time when Maskscent or Conceal breaks (that is 9% of all checks that I ran, prone or otherwise). That seems far too high to mefor master level, especially with regards to Conceal.
its broken sence last big patch - when a novice scout works better than a master ranger something is wrong -- when a SINGLE or maybe two giant gubbur breaks the ranger and not the scouts almost every time something is wrong -- when useing camo which is broken the same way something is wrong -- when haveing to tame pets with NOTHING on something is wrong

I really don't see what people ar complaining about with /maskscent. I'm a master scout / novice ranger and I rarely get /maskscent broken when I'm on all but the most advanced planets like LOK. When it does break, it's because I've wandered too near a large group of aggro creatures adn even then I've found that if you stay on the outer boundries of the radius, they rarely attack me. Maskscent earns me a fair amount of XP and is more useful to me now than ever.

Really,
As I've said before, consider yourself blessed and have lots of fun! I'm glad for you. But we are posting here to make it known there is a problem.
I also agree with the others that don't mind it breaking as often, but the instant aggro from outside of the safe range of folk without this "perk" is totally unacceptable.
Sure wish you guys that were having no problems could stand over our shoulders to see how bad this really is.
I still use it, but only when I'm actually close to what I'm hunting. Then it seems to be like I expect. I expect for a critter to aggro on me. I mean, I would think creatures would have a sense of when they're being stalked.
