Thread: Issues with Maskscent?

"I still use it, but only when I'm actually close to what I'm hunting."

This is exactly what I think was intended. IMHO, mask scent was never meant to be a wayfaring skill, despite the skill tree, but a hunting tool. I use /maskscent when approaching my quarry if the creature does not break scent then my first trap does immediately draw the creature to me allowing a second, or even a third,"free" trapping before aggro occurs.

Now /concealI think IS a wayfaring skill although it has problems in cost and effectiveness.

I took a page from N'rass's book and have been on Lok for several days now hunting. I have been all over the place and have not had my mask scent broken with the exception of a couple of large aggro creatures (I think Kimos sleep with one eye open).

I have had very little, if any, problem with it so far and enjoy getting the scout xp. Its nice to see a (relatively) big chunk of scout xp pop up for it as your running by and you know you just snuck by something nasty.

DarthIguana, it seems as if the further you go along Ranger right now, the worse it gets. That is why it does not seem like a problem to you. It is as if our conceal rating subtracts itself from maskscent, so that a Master Ranger is no better off than a Novice Scout.

Additionally, to those of us who have completed these lines, gaining xp is little consolation to a hide skill that does not hide us and in fact increases the chance we draw aggro from creatures.

Lyllian has a very good thread with evidence of this problem.

- Have you seen the size of those critters nostrils? They could probably smell you coming off the Shuttle in the Stronghold.

- In your travels on Lok, might you have located the elusive Domesticated Meat?

- I've avoided attacking the Nym's as they would pound me to dust, so hopefully the meat does not come off their domesticated animals.

Nada bud. Nym's pets won't drop it either. That is one thing that is truly frustrating me. I did /bug it though just for giggles.

"Nada bud. Nym's pets won't drop it either."

- Well, what a nuisance.

- I wonder how they chose the resource requirements? Obviously they may want to revise their method for future additions.

- I like the suggestions of being able to use any type of meat/bone/hide, as long as its specific to that planet.

- I don't see why I need to use a specific type of resource to make my kits (making it planet specific sounds sufficient to me )

Not to be too big of a complainer, but I have to agree with your statements about the camo kits. This sounds really goofy, but it's really tough finding Nabooian Deciduous Wood? You'd there'd be plenty of it around being a foresty planet and all SEriously though, if these kits were super duper effective or we could gather all of the materials that would be one thing, but I haven't found them to be so why set the requirements so high? There's just setting us up to not use a pretty major skill.

Ok beside the point that I disagree with the assumption that Mask Scent is not supposed to be a wayfaring skill (why wouldn't they put it in the hunting tree if that were the case?) I wouldn't mind the idea that I should only use it for hunting IFI could turn it off when the hunt is over. Mask Scent when it works lasts for a long time before it just wears off, so my hunt will be over and I will have to traverse the planet with Mask Scent still active.

There is deffinatly something wrong with Mask Scent on the master ranger level.

As a master, my mask scent breaks randomly against everything. I've had it break 4 times last night against kreetles for crying out loud. It breaks rather consistantly against level 15 creatures, even lone ones. Not only that, but most of time it breaks and I get attacked, its beyond the normal aggro range for the creatures (most were from 128m away) and caused them to attack.

Tonight, I even had NPCs break my mask scent and attack. Yes, NPCs - I was not using /conceal, only mask scent, and Jabba's henchmen/swoopers broke it and immediatly attacked from 80m out. I have (well, had) +5000 Jabba faction when this occured, as well.

Something is messed up with it, and its almost as if our camo ability is interfering with mask scent.

Camouflage certainly is interfereing with Maskscent.

If I immediately apply maskscent after camouflage drops, maskscent will work as camouflage for the remainder of my playing session.

By this, I mean maskscent will make checks against humanoids and it will not allow me to remove the mask effect, reporting that I "cannot maskscent while concealed" or some-such.

On the upside, I am getting the "benifits" of conceal, while not using a camouflage kit!

I was on tat last night and made my first couple of conceal kits to play with (had to buy flora, groan) and it broke within the first min of applying it (was playing with feral banths). I was like ok, whatever, and used the other 3 charges on it in like 6 mins vs some dragonettes and4 desert squills and a KREETLE. I was like @#$@. Why the hell woulda freaking kreetle break it? It went aggro on me too. I said screw it, not cost effective right now. 3/4 up that tree and it breaks on a kreetle. Hell...
