I'm working on building my master ranger now, and currently enjoy to no end the glory that is camping.
Now, I don't mind sitting outside of coronet observing the sky and hearing the howls of spamming bots in the distance anymore.
Why?
Because I recently discovered fishing, which make friends sitting around hours at the time for my benefit more managable. Though it's kind of frustrating when a semimaster ranger is outfished by a carabineer
Build the camp next to the river and you can make time pass by amazingly faster. That is.. until you want to start using the second most advanced camp, which pushes the shores juuuuust outside of camp radius, forcing the player to move outside the camp to fish, which quickly disbands itself whilst you try to enjoy the endeavour of camping.
Does anyone have any tips on how to combine these camps with my most favourite activity, second only to crushing the rebellion, i.e. fishing?
Why oh why can't just SOE enhance the range of the camp so lil ol me can fish in peace?

It's been a long time since I did the Frontiering grind (the one skill that made me break down and AFK). If I recall, you can perform some basic terraforming. Put down a camp near the edge as you normally would (maybe start with a basic camp to test). This should distort the landline. Move until you're just about at the point at which you can fish. Then disband the camp and immediately throw up another. If you're fast enough (I think I had camps on my toolbar), I believe you'll be standing on dry land for a second before the water level snaps back to where it is supposed to be, temporarily creating a valid place to plant the camp. When the water returns to it's normal position you should be able to fish well within the confines of the camp.

Pfft. Youngins these days. Gather round children and let old Grandpy Solarius tell you a story.
You know, back in my day, we didn't have any of this fancy new fangled wilderness xp from fishing in crafting. Oh no. We had to stand there for hours on end with our camps. There twernt no fast way up that hill by gum. It took us days and weeks to get there. Heck, it cost us a near 70k more xp to boot. By gum those were the days.
Did you know we couldn't even sit down? Oh heavens no, that was the last thing you wanted to do in one of our camps son. We had to stand there for weeks straight getting our xp. If you ever was foolish enough to sit your rear down on a chair, well by god next thing you knew you were sitting there at 0,0 on the map! Oh, that might not sound too bad to you youngins these days, with yer high falutin mounts and vehicles. But we didn't have that either! Why, we had to run everywhere we had to go. Why, I remember the first and only time I ever made that mistake of sitting down. Taint nothin that will learn ya a lesson more than having to run from the Squill cave all the way back to Bestine, with nothing but a CDEF in your hands and burst run.
Whats that? Let me turn up my hearing aid son. What was tracking like back then? Oh lord son, we never had any of that fancy stuff. If we wanted to find something, we'd have to search just like everyone else. By gum we could crawl faster than the dickens though. Back then riflemen had their own crawl speed too. A master ranger with rifle crawl could beat you in a foot race across the desert with you runnin and them crawlin. Those were the days.
*waves his cane* now scoot ya youngsters. Get back to yer campin and xpin. Things may have changed but yer a member of a rare breed. So get ta masterin son. Maybe someday, things just might change fer you too.

What the old fart missed was if you stand in the water, about up to your knees, not swimming - and pop a camp, there is a chance your camp will appear in the water. Then you can be in camp and fish.
And I made Master literally one minute before server reset on the day they dropped the points. As I ran screaming thru the streets of Coronet trying to make the trainer - there were no Master Rangers that I knew of on my server - then saved oh so quickly to make sure a dreaded roll back didn't get me.
Guess I qualify as one of the old timers.

yeah man, camps. They taunt everyone. They're all like"neener neener neener" and stuff...
do whatI do--make fun of them back. They're made of bones and hide...they don't know what's up. "Your mother was a chubba and your father smelled of cu'pa poodoo" is my favorite insult to the camps. They get all pissed and try to run away...but their camps, so they can't run. So thenI make fun of them some more. You should see those camps cry, man. It's pathetic, really.

Pfft just get a craft macro. Took me a span of 3 days to do it. I didn't have to sit and craft, I would just do it while in line for a buff, or waiting for a shuttle, etc...

Don't forget the corpse runs. We couldn't just kill ourselves and get back to town either (insurance was expensive back then and I had a lot less money). But I had a ton of fun doing it.

Um Nemo pls dont take offense but I never made a corpse run as a noob and I played from when it was released. Cloning was broken back then and so was insurance. You died you clone with all your stuff with no penalty now that was great. None of this reduction in all your gear everytime you died and didnt need insurance to ensure that you didnt make a corpse run you just spawned in cloner with it all.

Corpse runs were in during beta. If I remember right they made a last minute change because they couldn't get things to work right before they were forced to release the game.

Corpse runs were on live at one point...how else did I spend 2 days on Endor with not items and no credits? Seriously, they brought them back for all of a week in late July or early August.

Yes, corpse runs were live on release. There was issues of spawns with camps despawning and making your body buried and untargetable. They could never fix that, thus, the current decay system.
